I like to PvP, and PvE on ARK Ascended. Usually wearing an Exo Suit nowadays. Unlocking it is easy with no cheats needed anymore, and usually on a server, official or unofficial, sometimes for 100 days. Single Player is great though, certainly with a guide for any platform be it switch, xbox, ps4, ps5, pc, steam, epic, it's great. Sometimes play MTS, and usually post patch/update. But a survival game needs some community news and that's what I do, giving you the latest on events, small tribes, usually covering all maps from Island to Fjordur. And one day. ARK 2!

It's meant to be an underwater base. One for the air, land, water, and under the water. All four now have base creatures of which to live out your wildest base ideas

Summary of how to tame if you just wanna know that:
Step1: Tame an ichty and make a sickle
Step 2: find a shasta
Step 3: lure it to the surface of the water using the icthy
Step 4: it'll start a timer above its head for a mini game where you remove leeches using the sickle, and once you remove them all you can feed it (you'll have to be quick to feed it)
Rinse and repeat and you're done

From a PvE perspective, the problem with this type of creatures is that by the time you get them, you have already done everything you want on the map including a full base, so it becomes moot. I guess you could say one would normally transfer the levelled up character and have a ready made saddle for it....but still that's not ideal. I guess it's the ever present problem of balancing PvE and PvP... it's almost never Ideal for everyone
Hopefully if we haras wildcard to add it they might give it a default saddle
I feel like its saddle will probably be found in loot drops. It feels like the whale in genesis1, sometimes you found a saddle but you couldnt use it until you did the bossfight, since this isnt a tekgram it wont need that, so lets pray it drops somewhere

i been holding back on buying ark ascended but I love living underwater.. this 1 dino got me to buy the game. no more Splus vac cubes on a mosa saddle.. or on a megaechelon.
I’d upgrade to ASA for this if I had the console to run it. Although I’m a new player I’m very interested in base building and mobile base building. I love the (metal) raft and the Quetzal, especially since I’m migrating across the Island on my artifact hunt.
I did go to the effort of taming a low level Pleiosaur and training it in weight and stamina, given that I’m reliant on a scuba tank if I go underwater I don’t find it as useful as the other options. Other than using it to traverse the deep waters without fear of the leedy whale, its usefulness is limited.
Having a submarine would be very good for me.

Raft bases were never safe. You don't need this tame to drop a raft lol
raft life has been hurt already by asa... first by cryofridges not being placeable on rafts, then by the cart making a lot of mid-size dinos count as platform dinos and prevent them from boarding. now we have a tek tier submarine whalephin that can have a cryofridge in it..
Its saddle would look so much better if it was closer to the belly and not on a pole -_-

I see the reason why the saddle is under, it is for PVP where you can sneakily surface close to the surface or completely surface to spot unwary targets with periscope.
Also amazing non-acoustic torpedoes! That's like WWII submarine! I love it!
Cool Shasta taming guide!
It’s cool, cool as hell even, but there’s no real use to having Rexes in there. The saddle’s position under the Shasta forces them to swim out as opposed to simply walking off when the Shasta surfaces. I get that it was a challenge to implement, but having the saddle over the water would be nice and actually useful. Then we could ferry our dinos over and quickly put them down when we come close to shore. The way it is now we have to either cryo them to get them out (you can cryo a Rex and fly over the ocean to achieve the same thing) or have them swim out. Also, why would you need to get a rex deep under the sea anyway? You’re not gonna be fighting krakens with them.
Could soak underwater bases with stegos and put them back in the Shasta saddle to heal up/get oxygen. Shasta could protect it with its bulk and abilities.

Spinos would be more useful to carry if you can, or imagine a bary army inside
I feel like the things you would keep inside, were meant to be bary’s, frogs, and other semi aquatic dinos
only platform saddle I know that will allow cryofridges. Just cryo your dinos instead of walking them in ?

If you're lucky, it is possible to get pre-made saddles for it from cave drops before you're lvl 100.

I have so many questions... Can you build on outside of saddle? Can enemy enter (do you need to place a gate)? Can the back door be fired through? How well does it soak (all turret types and melee)? Does it have weak/strong spots? Does attacking compartment damage creature and vice versa? Does it take depth damage? Do tames have to be on land or on the shastasaurus to board or is it a weight/class thing? Can tames be manually moved or whistled in and out through the built in door?

Bro why did they move the sub part to his stomach, everybody can see that it just looks really awkward now. Also now it’s gonna clip with the ground whenever your try to bring the Shasta onto the shore which is realistically where it’s gonna be 80% of the time so the whole sub is just gonna be completely meshed, and why is it now hanging on by such as small connection why wouldn’t they attack is more the the actual body like that’s not how physics works the Shasta wouldn’t be able to move properly with this giant thing below it can you can tell, overall I love the Shasta just some highly questionable choices regarding the saddle especially when we already saw the original concept had it better

This is the first of the new creatures that I’m actually envious as a ASE player. I would love to have a mobile submarine base like that.
I’m a big fan of mobile bases already. I’ve used the raft to build a floating base with all the normal beginner stuff up to the fabricator by cleverly using ledges and platforms. The metal one was especially nice to outrun the leedy whale.
My favourite dinosaur was the Quetzal because with clever design I could make a flying mobile base with the same amount of utility. It takes weight training and stamina training but I would have a mobile base all over the Island.
I would have preferred the Quetzal to stay aloft while I’m not aboard but it just means that I have to be careful with where I land it. It’s very useful given that I’m caving to collect artifacts.
Of course I’ve seen a Tek Hover Skiff owned by another player. It seemed to have buildable stuff on top of it but honestly it flew by really quickly. So yes I’m envious of the Shastsa becoming a submarine base. I’m going to have to upgrade to a better console sooner or later.
we originally though the Shastasaurus to be much, MUCH larger, about similar size to a Titanosaur, but now, it's slightly larger or similar size to a Mosa
Its at least double the size of a Mosa, just looks so small because its in the water and you dont have trees and such to instantly scale its size by.

Doesn't have to be an itchy btw. Just tamed one with a sarco and it seemed to love my crocopops. And you can tame them with a buddy to make the mini game easier. Just be super careful around the tail leeches, it's easy to hit it the tail and many people have mistaken those mistimed tail swings as punishment for trying to tag team it. It isn't, you just have to be careful with the tail. Just nabbed a 145 near the 90 line on the center off the central eastern beach of the large island south of red ob on the center. I'm just curious, does it have weight reduction? Because mine says it only has 2.7k weight which seems off to me considering my mosa came stock with 4.5k weight. If it does have weight reduction, via it's own inventory like an anky or if the saddle ignores weight on account of it being a tek submarine, I think it could be the answer to my metal farming struggles. I really don't want to spend another three hours throwing hundreds of tranq spears from a 300% spear gun to tame a breeding buddy for my dunky again (female got ark'd, forgot to pick up bed drops, happens, don't judge me) please respond, nobody seems to be asking this question ANYWHERE and it's infuriating that nobody else seems to think outside of how good something is for pvp. . . Literally and metaphorically screw pvp, pve is where the good times lie. And I don't like absurd childishly high gimmicky harvest rates and stat boosts just because it's pve, miss me with that 20x weight bs, I want all the dinosaurs to have a function for crying out loud. Apologies for my lengthy comment.
You can find saddles in sky red drops (or at least ringed/boosted red drops) so if you get lucky and find one you do not need a rep
If anyone knows any cave drops that give these things saddles I would be eternally grateful if you would share with the class.

Is anyone know shastasaurus spawn command and saddle spawn command? I play only singleplayer, would like to test this creature, but spawn command isn`t shown on any ark thematic websites. Classic "gmsummon shastasaurus_character_bp_c 200" didn`t work either. Game files are encrypted, unlike in ASE, so, there is no way to see BP names.
Looks cool, to bad im refusing to play until they fix the single player save bug. I haven’t played since the release day of Scorched Earth and don’t plan on playing until it’s fixed

That was a lot less of a mesh and glitch fest than I thought it was going to be. The devs really did put a lot of thought and effort into making a moving vacuum compartment work. I'm sure someone will find exploits and problems but at first blush that's a lot more stable than I expected. I'm just wondering what the utility of it is though since it's really only suited to open ocean so for The Center it works and maybe Rag and Ocean biome of Genesis but other than that it kind of feels like a toy rather than a serious raid tool.

You don't even have to be riding a dolphin, you csn be on Basilo or Shark to fend off mobs nearby but have dolphin on follow and he'll still surface for taming mini game.

It should have been on top. And bigger. It's tek stage, so when you actually get there, PvE wise, it's essentially useless.
What would happen if you accidentally removed the saddle whilst the submarine part is decorated with stuff and dinos riding it? What would happen if you remove the saddle whilst the saddle part is out of mesh? 🤔
The same thing with platform saddles, won't let you take it off and won't let you cryo pod it till everything has been removed.
They should have just added a sub that can beach itself.

This kinda seems like a pointless creature tbh, why invest the mats in a mobile base when you would already have a full fledged base? Also why use it to transport creatures when it's slower than a flyer and you can just cryo creatures? It doesn't seem very good for fighting since you can barely see anything so a mosa or squid would still be better. The level requirement makes it just seem useless to go tame at that point in the game. The lack of a normal saddle means you are locked into having tek but most players who reach tek just move to the next map after killing bosses.
