Bat Monitoring at Night!!

Join us while we monitor bats while paddling, at night, the Chain of Lakes in Waupaca Wisconsin. Bats are a critical resource that are currently struggling with disease that has killed in some cases 90% or more of certain types. Our volunteer work helps the Wisconsin DNR understand current population trends and potential programs to help the bats recover. The bat acoustic meter will record the GPS location, the bat type and the number counted. We complete these counts about 4-5 times per year during the Spring and Summer Months. Recent counts have been a mixed results. This effort is also a fun social activity for all involved. Kayaking at night is a fun and exciting adventure.

Noticed more bats in my yard this year also.
I try to keep track of them by sightings.
Do alot of nighttime fly fishing close to that area and saw more this year.
One year I accidentally snagged one casting the fly rod and sadly he didn’t survive.
Also had one actually pick dry fly off surface and dropped it that same year.
Glad someone is trying to help them..Thx.

We count bats ever month during the Summer and have noticed more lately so thats good to see. You must get out a bunch fishing!! Appreciate the comment
