I told my brother people originally bred bettas to fight them, and he thought I meant a person would go against the betta. He was so confused until I rephrased my sentence.

If you wanted a custom tank i reccomend order one from a glass store, they usually accept a custom order and assembly if you have some deep pocket, but not as deep as you need to buy online

My two 5 inch goldfish sitting across from my neon tetras and zebradainos: hey are you hungry? All I want is a 1.5 inch snack ya know.
I remember my first ammonia spike. My fish were acting weird as I noticed a slight fog in my tank. Checked the ammonia and flipped! My whole family was weirded out about how serious I took the situation.
I have a very basic tank. It is pretty artificial, and now I am starting to feel bad. I hope my fish are somewhat happy. They are two goldfish in a big tank. They have been living for three years now. Thanks for the good examples of what to do and what not to do with tank set ups. It rlly helps.

My coworkers keep overstocked goldfish and betta in tiny bowls...yes, even the science teacher. And I wish they would listen to me about it, but they are stubborn.
@@fairfathom I know on facebook marketplace there are oftentimes aquariums people give out for free. It's a long shot but maybe you could pick some of those up and give it to them? Or just send them an email with proper care + all of the bad stuff that happens from keeping them like they are to guilt trip them

@@enzoocampoiii2881 it appears my comment didnt send so im gonna resend it lol its a 10 gallon planted with a female betta 9-10 ember tetras and 4 guppies that are from back when i tryed unsuccessfully to breed guppies for my lfs back when i sent the photo the guppies and betta were in a 5 gallon planted tank ive recently rescaped my tank and added a diy co2 setup but im debating removing my driftwood cause it just seems too big for the tank
I just remembered this story: Me,my dad and sister (mum was at work I think) were at our local fish store and we were just looking around and we went to the outside section and a fish was just on the floor on the opposite side and he was about to die and my sister literally sprints to a member of staff and they pick the fish up and it then it literally just swims round like nothing happened.

Great Tank but never Sand with Bettas. They search the floor for food and 1 sandcorn will plug their digestive tract. Feed a cut up to tiny pieces boiled pea and get the sand out or covered. 6:30 Lava pebbles make a great Bio- Filter substrate. Just get the really small ones
Idk what to show my tank on so I’ll just describe it: it’s a 5-6 gallon tank shaped like half a circle with rounded edges. It has a black rim around the top and bottom and a black lid with a little flip thing to feed the fish (he’s a betta). It also has LED lights but I rarely use it cuz I think it stresses my fish and when I do I use the white setting since it’s multicolor. Inside of the tank there is pink pebbles with a few white pebbles layering the bottom. There is some fake plastic plants that are kinda tall and two of them are at the front while one of them is behind a little barrel decor that he likes to swim in. The barrel is and the corner and is slanted at an angle with fake rocks at the bottom. It also has ragged “holes” (I had to sand them cuz it could’ve cut my fish) at the top and both sides. I’ve been thinking about removing it to give him more space but idk.the filter is at the opposite side of the barrel (the barrel is at the left) he has a bunch of snails living in the tank with him and so far he haven’t really eaten then thankfully. The food I feed him is pellets and is by a brand named “Zoo Med.” apparently it has krill and vitamin c in it and it also floats.

My sister had a fish tank with pink gravel and ornaments that looked like toilet water so I took it from her and redid it. I replaced the pink gravel with sand and added driftwood and artificial plants. Now the fish seem to be doing a lot better.

I had a betta fish as a kid who was named Hanna and I LOVED her. It was a terrible tiny fish bowl and I just recently learned that my one betta fish hanna was actually like 20 fish that looked similar that my parents kept replacing when they died because they knew my fish dying would break my heart. I love my parents but this definitely made me love them a little less.

The first time I kept shrimp, i got one ghost shrimp, one cherry shrimp and one orange shrimp. Two were lost and the other died after a year.
Recently, I got 7 red cherry shrimp for my 2.5 gallon tank and started it right!
When i was actively keeping fish i “changed” the carbon filter cartridge that came with the tank by cutting it open and pouring out the carbon and filling it with those porous ceramic pellets.

I had a customer come in today to get betta. I showed her she could get a bigger tank for like 5 dollars more instead of the .5 bowl with a live plant. At the end she said “I’ll just go with the bowl” after I told her all the things a betta would need. I wanted to scream “fish abuser”

As much as I am loving getting into aquascaping, I really don't see myself trying CO2 anytime soon.
The two male bettas in same cup may not have been done or even noticed by staff. I've seen an instance at my lfs where (i assume some kid) someone poured one male betta into another male bettas cup and they had left the empty cup nearby... oc I took the liberty to seperate them and notify a staff member I trusted.
In my aquascapes I honestly don't use CO2 but I also build my tanks more for the behavior of the fish and try to aquascape something they'll interact with the best
Just FYI, some recent studies have shown thay keeping goldfish in warm water is actually beneficial for them. They can live in cold water but seem to enjoy warmer temperatures
The multi-filter tank with the lamp is really pretty, but the betta in a lid-less tank makes me nervous lol.

I have a ten gallon planted with a beta and five black neon tetra. I keep water parameters perfect, its within the stock ratio of 1 gallon per inch of fish, so it can be done. also heavily depends on your betta. betta in the community is super calm and doesnt mind the tetras. I have another betta that killed anything that moved, including snails. so it always depends on your fishes temperament.

So, in my country(Thailand) there's a thing called "Betta Fight" which is basically 2 male bettas put in a small aquarium or pond then they fight each other until one dies. Does this counted as fish abuse? cuz people have been doing this for a long while like hundreds of years, so it's almost a tradition. 🙁

The gold fish bowl with petals would certainly make for a beautiful centerpiece for a wedding. Just look at how beautiful it looks with those fresh rose petals and beautiful fish swimming in their emerald green pool of rose water, the bride will love it.

the thing about goldfish and temperature is a common misconception. they thrive in warm water and cold water. perfect evidence of that comes from thriving populations of feral goldfish all over the tropics: south east asia, central america, southern india, etc. some of the best orandas are bred and raised in pools outdoors in thailand.
These are so satisfying to watch- and I don't even own fish. I am learning a lot though, so maybe one day I'll get into keeping fish- some of these tanks are so stunning!
If my filter gets clogged I stick a plant in the filter and rinse roots and trim when needed.

Making an aquascape can be challenging but thankfully co2 helps with that!
Betta “owners” made a new myth they say that since bettas live in puddles in rice fields they can eat rice and other food scraps because that’s what they eat naturally
I change out the carbon in my filter once a month but I also have goldfish so I like to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep things clean. I have a canister filter with sponges and ceramic noodles and a small internal filter that I took the sponges out of and replaced with carbon in small bags. It works for me 😊 probably overkill but peace of mind is important
After an obsession on fish and aquascaping for more than two years. I am absolutely devastated today as my family without telling me got a 900 litre tank OUTDOORS. And put their carps in it and glow fish who will now be a lovely snack as well as tetras and barbs. They are good people but really misinformed and I feel guilty myself for not being more present. Looks like they have spent a lot of money on it too. Maybe they thought it will impress me. I love them so much and covid has meant I haven’t seen them in a year and a half. I myself am losing the will in the hobby. Fish keeping can be hard even when you have done your research. Just lost almost all my fish to ick. I feel really defeated.

my dad keeps neon tetras, those glowing tetras, mollys and TWO MALE BETTAS in the same tank which is really not that large. he claims “everything is fine” but I always see the red bettas with cuts in its fins. I tried to explain to my dad why keeping 2 male bettas in the same tank is a really bad idea but he started talking about adding A THIRD BETTA. Literally just why?
I do aquascape my betta tanks but I have never tried using CO2 - I guess I should give it a try.
Onetime I was at walmart(when they still had fish) and they used to keep betas in the deli cups and they all say next to each other and two were trying to fight by banging there head on the cup, well I saw a fish in a cup fall off of a shelf
I just used Fluval Stratum for the first time and this stuff gives “blackwater” a new meaning
I learned the hard way that betta's can't be trusted together. I had two that got along fine for a few days before I came home from work one day and found one of the betta's with most of it's fins torn up and wounds on it's side. I hate when fish fight.

Idea for filming your fish: when you sit in front of the tank, they'll think its feeding time and get excited. Try leaving the room with the camera set up and recording?
Technically, the cluster of turtles, gold fish, and Axolotl, wasn't all that terrible. Those are all cold water pond animals and based on the size of them, he's just aquired these and your looking at the shopping bucket.

i ordered a red tail catfish, he came in smaller then expected like seriously like less then an inch, so I put him in my ten gallon, he out grew that in a week... now he's in my 210 grow out until he goes into my pool pond
I use a Luxo lamp on one of my tanks! Looks great and grows lots of guppy grass and java moss, but does have some issues with algae. 🤷♀️

This is why I only get fish from my lfs where they put bettas in their own fully heated and filtered tank, usually 20s with some tetras or other beta-friendly fish. They also have a 5 gallon shrimp tank kit which includes driftwood and denerele shrimp safe substrate. And everyone there is legitimately knowledgeable. Granted their fish are pretty expensive, I mean 8 dollar ryukins (read:babies) but it’s worth it.
