    If you’re serious about color grading, there are a couple of things you will need. One is a calibrated monitor. The other is good video scopes. You know, waveforms, vectorscopes, RGB parade, you get the idea. And while the video scopes built into Davinci Resolve are pretty good, I’ve found something better. It’s called Nobe Omniscope, and it’s quickly become one of my most-used Davinci Resolve plugins. Let’s take a look.

    Happy New Year buddy.
    Nice little episode even though its not aimed towards me as a hobbyist who makes a handful of episodes for my personal amusement on CZcams.
    I think that your opening statement of having a calibrated monitor is very important, especially for people on my side of the fence who don't grade for a living but want to edit and grade to the best of their ability.
    I have a Display Colorimeter, and have never regretted getting it. It can be quite disconcerting calibrating a display, which you've been using for a while only to find that your eyes were being deceived.

    Another great video; I like it best at the end, and you explain who this is for; yeah, I would love this, but as you pointed out, it's not really for me at this point.

    Omniscope has an option stay on top, so if you have a 27 to 32 inch monitor, you don't need to go back forward..just turn on the option ( stay on top)

    The only weird things is I had to add an NDI drive and it messes up my audio output for some reason and I have to always manually choose my sound out put for some reason bc it defaults to the NDI Omniscope Plug in...? hav you had this problem.? Every time I have a zoom or Meet meeting I have to go into my preference and change it from NDI to my out put and input speaker and Mic...?
    Not sure why it needed to install NDI audio output but it does for some odd reason...

      @@JayLippman Weird, but I was "forced" to install some "drives" for this and it installed some kind of NDI drivers which one was for Audio Output for some odd reason and shows up in my Sound preference in MAC OSX it always defaults for some reason to that NDI output and I have to manually change my audio output and input all the time... Weird... When you installed it, it did not say you need to install some kind of drivers?

    I might be wrong, but that's the cost of da Vinci resolve plus a recurring subscription model. I think they've got the costing seriously wrong, but that's just my humble opinion. Imagine every plug-in provider tried the same, you'd spend 10 grand a year on plug-ins. This is something that certain companies don't understand, if you all go on a subscription model that's this high, nobody will be able to afford it, but the reason they do is they think they're the only one and don't actually factor in if everybody did the same thing the model is broken.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  Pƙed 6 měsĂci +2

      The subscription is optional, and only kicks in after the first 12 months, if you want continuous updates. Even if you opt out, you still have the license and can continue to use it, you’ll just miss out on any new features that come out.
      And the price is why I said this is for serious colorists who are already making money with color grading/editing. It’s not a hobbyists plugin. I personally have a few plugins that cost more than Davinci Resolve, but it’s worth it for me because the work I do pays for it.

      that sounds like AutoDesk’s model. $6K per upgrade and then bricked in 2019 for subscription only.

      the upgrade/support is optional, the license never expires.

      @@equisetuminc Not really. The license does not expire - you own it. You only have to pay $99 to upgrade and can wait until you want - no forced sub. Compare this to a hardware device that you invest in that has no upgrade path...

    A plethora of scopes, but what you didn’t talk about and which is the most important thing is you did not do a direct comparison between the accuracy of the scopes between programs, and if the scopes in resolve are just as accurate
Then this new plug-in of yours,, it ain’t worth it. the scopes in resolve are incredibly accurate and most people do not need the Omni scopes!

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  Pƙed 6 měsĂci +1

      I agree most people don't need Omniscope. That's why I said it's for serious colorists who are making money with color grading. Those people specifically would benefit from Omniscopes because it has scopes that Davinci Resolve doesn't have. Davinci Resolve's scopes aren't inaccurate at all, but with the additional scopes you get with Omniscope, you can get a more accurate grade, provided you know how to read them.
