    Thanks for your vide, Jay. I have a question. I'd like to know how to make scrolling effect of a phone screen, or of a website showcase, or even scrolling down a document file, let's say it's a PDF file and you want scroll down through the pages. It'd appreciated if you could give me link for such tutorial, or maybe make one yourself.(I tried to find but I couldn't find this one among your videos) with regards. 🙏

    I was wondering if you'd get your hands on Dehancer - now I have my answer :D I use it in most of my videos, usually to stylize a portion of it, or to show time shifts, things like that. I really like how a non-colorist can get really great results really quickly, even if it's expensive and chokes my computer [I got similar frame rates, and 7.0.0 is a lot speedier than 6.3.0 for most effects]. TBH, they sent me a license in exchange for a review, too, so I don't consider your video sponsored like some do - your opinions are your own and all that. Great job showing it off!

      Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. And yeah, the whole “sponsorship” thing is tricky. Technically, since they gave me a license it is sponsored in the eyes of the US government. CZcams just has a much more limited definition of the word.

    This plugin cost more the Davinci Resolve 18 studio. Nor for casual filmmakers.

    • @JayLippman

      @@JayLippman Nope what? Full plugin is for $499 and full Studio Resolve 18 for $357.
      I downloaded TRIAL version of Dehancer for Davinci Resolve (free Resolve, not Studio) and got warning that trial plugin works only on 1080p :D And at the moment I had only 4K footage.
      Okay... I am back to mist filter + ugly grain overlay in post :D

    Hmm dehancer is great but your video does not look sharp and the shadows are lifted to much in my opinion. Colors look strange also.

  • @JimRobinson-colors
    @JimRobinson-colors Před rokem

    I don't have it on my system. The other thing that people should consider is that if their stuff is being used for youTube or Tik Tok , facebook etc. the actual what you see in Resolve is not even close to what you get, once uploaded. Which means that higher the price you pay for a plug-im, the expense becomes even worse when you can't see it after upload. So if the filmlook is dependant upon halation and film grain - do an upload using Resolves built in tools ( free for studio users ) and using Dehancer and then upload the videos - then ask any human if they can tell one from the other. I think at best it would be a 50/50 guess. Then compare it the uploaded version to the one in Resolve. So unless Dehancer sends me a license, I don't recommend it to anyone, unless you are doing broadcast or features.
    I often wonder why companies price things like this out of the reach of hobbyists. Once software is made - seems to me that selling hundreds of copies or sell thousands of copies, is totally dependant upon the price.
    So using this logic - I will be charging $100k for color grading a music video now. I only need one customer a year then. ( kidding )

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  Před rokem

      😂😂😂 yeah I’m not entirely sure what the pricing strategy is. It definitely seems a little high and we’ll outside of the hobbyist range.
      And you’re right, the visual difference when you upload to CZcams is negligible. Like I said, this is made (and priced) for professional editors. Still, even after I upload, I’m not mad at what the final result is.
      As always, I appreciate the feedback Jim! Thanks for watching!

    • @JimRobinson-colors
      @JimRobinson-colors Před rokem

      @@JayLippman Maybe there is a future video in that for you. Do some plug-ins i.e. film grain or noise reduction - upload and then get some friend not in the business to see if they can spot the difference. I think that would be an interesting watch.

    • @allenpayne9182
      @allenpayne9182 Před rokem +1

      Effects like halation and grain subtly enhance video mood and style, impacting viewers subconsciously. The quality difference between footage from high-end cameras like the ARRI Alexa and the Blackmagic Pocket 6K, while subtle, matters to professionals and discerning viewers.
      Software prices often reflect product value and costs of development, maintenance, and support. Dehancer, a tool for professionals, warrants its premium price due to its comprehensive features and superior tools. The perception that software should be cheap disrespects developers' time and skills invested in creating and maintaining these products.
      Personally, I'd be willing to pay up to 999 dollars just for the grain and halation plugin. And also the film profiles.

    • @JimRobinson-colors
      @JimRobinson-colors Před rokem

      @@allenpayne9182 Actually grain is being used a lot less these days, especially HDR films bound for Netflix.
      The developers that created the software would rather that everyone could use it.
      The suggestion wasn't that it be cheap, the suggestion is that there is a price point that makes it sell more and then have a better chance of still being in business in 3 years.
      There have been countless companies that have over priced themselves into bankruptcy.
      PluralEyes was a fabulous software for syncing multicam cameras.
      What happened to PluralEyes?
      PluralEyes came to an end. The German software developer Maxon bought up Red Giant, the previous developer of PluralEyes, in 2020. They have stated that technical support and critical bug fixes will end on February 1st, 2024. Pluraleyes was awesome.
      The price point was missed on that software.
      There have been many, many software titles that bit the dust over the years.
      I think Jay should do a youTube video with the same footage using Resolve grain, Movie clip layered Film Grain, and Dehancer and upload them all - put them side by side and see if people can tell which is best. And that would be with telling people there are three different processes. In reality the compression online kills the best parts of the grain and halation. Most people outside the business - would never notice.
      And I have personal friends doing features that are not even applying grain or halation at all.
      But I do think Dehancer is a good plug-in, but think it is going to fail when it is more than the software that is running it.

    So, basically sponsored. I like your work a lot, but that disclaimer was a mess.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  Před rokem

      No, not sponsored. A sponsored video is where they pay me a fee in exchange for the rights to control what I say in the video, review the video before it’s published, and request changes to the video.
      This is a review, where they don’t get to see the video before it’s published, or request changes, and the didn’t pay me a fee. The gave me a license so I could check it out and decide whether or not I wanted to make a video. There was no obligation whatsoever.
      The only way I make money (other than Adsense) is if people decide to purchase the plugin and actually remember to use my affiliate code. And as I said in the video, that’s probably a very small subset of people.

      @@JayLippman I appreciate your work and I've learned a lot from it. The full responding here I looked up the word sponsor. All the definitions I saw indicate that this is sponsored. You are compensated in the form of a license for the product. If you gave the license back at the end, then maybe it wouldn't be counted as a sponsorship. (And even then I think it qualifies).
      I think under the ordinary definition of the word, this is a sponsorship. I checked several. All agreed.
      You are free to have your perspective of course, but it seems at variance with standard English usage. Yours may be the "CZcamsr definition".
      "Sponsorship is the act of supporting an event, activity, person, or organization financially or through the provision of products or services. The individual or group that provides the support is known as the sponsor."
      Anyway, keep up the good work. It's not that I don't appreciate it. I wouldn't have commented if I didn't think your work is valuable.

      @@RalphKohler But he is super clear that he's an affiliate partner. So no matter the wording, you fully understand it. So why are you so negative? Chill, dude.
      To Jay: Great video! I can't understand so much negativity under this video. You're a great guy. This is a great and honest review! And I don't think it's expensive at all. DaVinci Resolve itself cost 100,000 dollars just a couple of years ago. They were able to bring down the price to 300. But it's no surprise to pay more for a plugin. Filmbox costs 4999 dollars. And it's fine. It's made for professionals who are doing color grading every day. It's absurd that people spend 2000 dollars on a PC, and 5000 dollars on a camera, and another 5000 dollars on lighting, gear, and sound. But when it comes to software, they want it "for free" or under 200 bucks. The guys from Dehancer are great. There's nothing that comes close. They could even charge 800 dollars and I would buy it. Even if I only use it on two projects a year.
