Great video, followed it step by step to replace the lever on my HHR. A couple of things I found out own my own might be helpful for future viewers: 1) Make sure the adjustable steering wheel is in it's lowest position - it makes everything a lot easier to come out; 2) Put a white rag or washcloth on top of the steering column in front of the gauges when taking out the top Phillips screws. They are very small and black and me being all thumbs, one dropped down onto to black carpet never to be seen again and the other fell and was wedged in between the steering column and the bezel. I needed a magnet to retrieve it.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. The project took me about 30 minutes. The replacement part cost me $16 on Amazon. I ran into delays when removing the top panel (0:45) and I also had trouble getting the second electrical plug removed (2:39). A tip for anyone else who is having trouble detaching that second clip; you want to use a small flat-head screwdriver to pry UP the black plastic part. Don't do like me and try to push DOWN on the gray doohickey. Once I pried UP the black tab, the plug came right out.
I have had a broken turn signal arm for 5 years. I have it held together with gorilla tape. Dealer quoted me $400ish and they had to remove the steering wheel so I just lived with it. Finding out the part is under $20 and is a 1 star DIY fix. THANK YOU.
I installed the new one , but I couldn't get the tabs to lock on the square part that snaps back in. ?? The one I replaced was broken but functioning. I am 68 and have repaired everything from camshaft Solenoids, power steering motor, A/C blower, resistor, replaced my own spark plugs and replaced other stuff by watching You Tube Videos. My grandpa taught me about tools. My A/C works just fine now.Thank you for this video. 😁🎉
Great job you the man. Less then 15 min. Part was $20. Must have a 7 milometer socket or nut driver and a small screwdriver. when replacing plastic parts make sure the groves line up before snapping them in place.
Super pleased I found this video! My new switch and socket wrench set will be delivered Monday and I am really excited to be able to address this issue myself. I am also changing out the tail light assemblies.
I did it! It took a bit more (wo)manhandling, maybe because it had never been taken apart before? But everything else was exactly as the video demonstrated. I took her for a lil drive afterwards and it works flawlessly. As an older, disabled lady this is a huge accomplishment for me and I could not be more chuffed about it.
One of my great friends sent me this video. It was easy to follow. It tool me about 45 minutes to complete it. After not loosing the screws a few times. Lol
Just wanted to say you're video was very helpful needed to replace my signal switch on my 2010 Chevy hhr went perfectly thank you appreciate your helpful video 👍👍👍😭
Thank you for the great info . I'm 75 arthritic fingers, and completed the job in 15min. Only issue I forgot to lower steering wheel and struggled abit at first. KB
Thank you x a million. I have never done any type of work on a car, but am always charged so much when I go to the mechanic. This video made it easy and I did it in about 25 minutes with no problems.
Thanks a second time. I needed to do it again on my new 2006. Still a great easy-follow video. Take your time and don't force anything. The part was still $20.
Very helpful video...was able to make quick work of this. I did have to file down the part I got from Amazon. It would not click into place so I reckon it's not made to the correct tolerances.
Thanks for posting this... saved me $175! One small problem, now when I open the door with the ignition off, the alarms dings like I've left keys in the ignition.
Thank you my brother I appreciate you You just saved me a bunch of money thank you God bless you continue to share with people like me we really appreciate all the help that we can get. Amen
Did the trick for my 2011 hhr. Left signal worked fine. Right signal would need to be help up or "encouraged" to stay engaged until making a right turn. New signal went in faster than the time needed to finish video.( I watched this video 3-5 times before the part arrived at my house d6254e is the gm part number. I kept the cowl or whatever infront of a space heater while I installed the new switch. I was able to pop the cover in much quicker than taking it out. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for this clear and accurate video presentation. You saved me a LOT of money, time, and frustration. I really appreciate it. Again, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I knew exactly what I was in for and planned accordingly. Of course, the two plastic covers were a pain to remove for some reason and I needed the help of a plastic pry bar to get them started. I guess my fingers aren't as strong as they once were! Also, it took a bit of time to get the new switch to seat in properly but all in all, a very easy DIY fix.
Quick finding this video. I just need to buy the part now. Just bought a used 2011 HHR and the switch doesn’t retract after making left/right turns. Best to save money doing it yourself than spending an arm and a leg on labor.
THANK YOU SO MUCH... My part should bee here on Tues and then I'll replace it. I'm a 60 yr/o disabled widow and have never worked on cars b4... I cannot afford 2 pay a garage place 2 replace it 4 me but YOU make me think I can do it all by myself. Another issue is the locks don't work on my 2008 Chevy HHR. I don't feel 2 safe drive'n around town w/o be'n able 2 lock my doors... Any suggestions on how I can fix that??? Any help would bee appreciated. 😱
Anna Mullins - If all of your electronic locks are not working from any button, it could be a fuze. If they are making a buzzing noise and don’t work, it is most likely the lock actuator inside the door. Thanks for the review and good luck!
Actually showed evwry step . to many videos tell u what you gotta do then skip to it being done. Showing how u struggled actually helps seeing which way to take apart
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to put the three screws back into the bottom panel, but they won't tighten up at all. I remove my socket and the screw either falls out of the hole or comes out still sitting in the socket.😮
Just installed my new turn signal switch and once installed it will not click into the 2 tabs to lock in and I switched the car to ownn position and only my left headlight comes on and both turn signals blink really fast so I installed the old switch and it wouldn't click in neither so what did I do wrong
I have a 2009 chevy hhr my turning signal not out but my automatic headlights not coming on nomore in the dashboard lights stay on at night sir if u would in u no do u think it would be that because my automatic headlights dnt come on nomore?
Would replacing of the turn signal switch fix the non canceling problem I have? When you activate the turn signal either left or right they do work. But then when you turn the steering wheel they won’t click off. You have to manually move the switch. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Literally the same problem I have on my car! Going to place a order on a switch on eBay they’re about 20 bucks. I look forward into doing this. This guy with his detailed video is gonna Help out amazingly.
Lol I'm a total NERD. I went to the junkyard , took off the top and bottom plastics that surround the steering column. I still couldn't take off switch so I took off the airbag , steering wheel , steering clock spring , broke a key off by accident so it's stuck in the ignition , then couldn't pull up the tabs .. but finally got them off . I should have just watched the video lol oh well . At least it was a junkyard car 🚗 🤷
The plugs have tabs that need to come up in order to remove. Also, the turn signal has a tab on top and the bottom that you have to push in with a flat head screw driver.
Would you be able to do a twisting motion with a spludger, or plastic flat pry tool, place it parallel to the plug and twist to slightly encourage it free!
3:16 You Failed to share the fact the clips to hold the turn signal stalk need to be pushed up into place to prevent the stalk from being loose. It just doesn’t slide in and automatically snap in by itself. Your lack of pointing that out makes the video less helpful.
I Did It!!! A 67 year young female, Thank You so Very Much!!! 😃

Perfect! Exactly, what I needed to see. Great camera angles and instructions, you did a great job. My replacement went smooth because of it.
One of the most well lit and filmed video I’ve watched for minor car repair. Thank you so much!
I have had a broken turn signal arm for 5 years. I have it held together with gorilla tape. Dealer quoted me $400ish and they had to remove the steering wheel so I just lived with it. Finding out the part is under $20 and is a 1 star DIY fix. THANK YOU.

FYI
Your video saved me over $220.00 dollars.
Local dealer was gonna charge me $250.00 and said it’s 2-3 hour job!
Thanks! I was able to replace mine. I'm having trouble replacing the upper cowl, but I'll get it. It can't be totally easy.

D'oh!! The lights were on! My wife asked that as soon as I mentioned the problem to her!
Thank you for this helpful video. I did mine following everything you did and it works a treat.
The only difference was me swearing like a sailor.
Perfect instructions. Changed it out in about 20 minutes. Thanks!

Hello, sir. I just replaced the faulty control arm on my 2009 Chevy HHR...thank you sooooo much for your video.
Nice video. Will be tackling this today. Nice tips from others too.
Thanks for this video! It was very concise and easy to understand. I was done in 15 mins. Thanks again!

Great video. Thank you, I was dreading this job and never realized it was a rather easy and fairly uncomplicated job.

Good video. I was able to replace in about 20 minutes (most of that was finding my tools LOL)

Thanks a mil - and yes getting that last piece back in place was the most difficult. All The Best!

Awesome job man, thanks for keeping the crazy music out of the video.
Good video. Saved a lot of money. Only one thing the Phillips screws are straight up and down not at an angle. But that’s all, everything good.

Thank you. Easy fix and saved a ton of money
Excellent video with one minor exception- the steering wheel column needs to be tilted down (lever on the left side) in order to get that cowling off.
Awesome video!! Thank you for putting it out there 👍🏼
Done! Thanks!
Good job. It might be easier to remove the lower parts before removing the upper cowl.
Seems like an easy fix!
Thanks, great video!
Very helpful and informative. Thanks

My turn signal lever will not stay down or won't return after making my turn. Will the new switch fix this problem also?
Yes
What size socket did you use to take the bolts out from underneath?
7mm socket
If I was having problems with my turn signals and now suddenly I have no rear turn signals or brake lights, could this be the problem?
No rear turn signals or breaks light are most likely from another problem.

I just went to the salvage yard this morning and took one of these off, took 5 minutes to get it off and $17.50 for the part
Oveida Sinclair - Yep! Love the junkyard parts store.
Where did you get the part at? They want $50 for it at Auto Zone.
@@lblackwood95 LKQ you pull it Salvage Yard, they're in a lot of states, there are 4 of them with 45 minutes driving time from my fathers home.
Nice!
My turn signal works on my HHR, but does not disengage when my steering wheel is back to center. Can it be the whole turn signal switch?
Yes
Got the plugs out but even with the clips pushed down with a flat head on top and bottom switch still won't come out
You have beautiful hands😂
Did what you did can't get the switch too come out any thing else I can do
Don’t get frustrated, slowly go over the steps and keep trying.
Any other idels can't get it out of the don't won't too release out it's unplugged and top and bottom is poped lose

If your turn signal doesn’t snap into place right away, make sure you push the tab on the top and on the bottom so it locks into place.
awesome vid....thank u so kindly on the installation ! u r a kind & helpful human being :-))
