The Parallel Port was built in by Sony for later acessories they thought they would sell, but they never did. Now you can buy Modding Chips or things like that. And the Serial Port was to connect two consoles to play multiplayer games on two TVs, but almost nobody used it
The ps2 had the ports,but the serial was changed to two USB ports and a different port to connect 2 ps2 consoles but again, almost no one used it. So in later models, they removed it.
Parallel I/O Port is for ActionReplay, GameShark, PlayStation Video CD Adapter and PSIO Flash Cart, Serial I/O Port is from PlayStation Link Cable Only.

The screen also works natively with the PS2 (slim only), though you have to take the bottom shell off (where the inputs are). I made a custom one where the power and video inputs slide so I can line them up with the systems. Brought that and a battery back when waiting in line for the PS4 release and we were playing Tony Hawk's Underground 2 on it
Yes, it's not officially licensed though, kind of a sketchy third party product. It's like a rectangle thing you put your slim PS2 or slim PSOne on, and it has a two-inch cord that plugs into the circular AC port
I played the plastic out of dick tracy 16 bit. Battletoads 1991 flipped me like frogger. Hooked on 8 bit legends. Yeah I was there day one or something for my n64 which was real expensive in the mid 90s. Was always debating with friend over psx or n64 which was better atm(at the time). I was n64 for simple fact I could leave my games lying around with less likely damage like a Sony game might get. Good game
I had one of these back in the day. It was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. I was able to successfully play crash and spyro under the blanket in my bed without my mom seeing I was awake. Fantastic times

Late to the party but, the parallel I/O port is used with a version of the GameShark before they went to CD based GameShark discs. I also had a buddy who had some kind of an attachment that his PS1 sat on top of that would have likely used these ports to either watch DVD through, or was likely a VCD player with really crappy video quality, kind of like FMV. But, I actually had a GameShark that did plug into that parallel port.
DUDE! So sick! I have had the PSOne and LCD screen combo for quite some time now and have always wanted to see if I could hook up other systems to the screen. Thanks so much for showing how to do it, I am totally going to be getting one of those adapters in the near future.

I’m very lucky to have got one of the PS1 slims plus the screen for £5 at a boot fair years ago (PAL, SCPH-102/152) in working order, which uses an RGB output on the video display (using an RGB SCART cable would turn off the display). It seems hard coded to block 60Hz signals, but other than that, it’s an extremely neat piece of kit. It could probably be used with a PS3 if you truly felt determined enough to mess with it, but I don’t recommend that :P
The serial i/o was essentially a cable that connected your ps one to a TV using the Antenna port on the TV, and you'd have to flick through the channels to find out where your ps1 was. Ours was channel 13 😅 Useful only for super old tvs, like the little black box one we had as a kid that didn't have AV inputs
Just for those wondering, the PSone LCD can take in Stereo audio, too. You only have to make sure the 3.5mm layout is correct from the tip it has to be: Left Audio, Video, Ground, Right Audio. This also means you can hook up a PS2 on the LCD, however the AV input is composite only and not the nice RGB you usually get from the PSone LCD.
I had a psone growing up, but I never had the lcd attachment for it (I got it second hand from a family member), but damn would I have been blown away If I knew that I could take it basically anywhere I wanted with the screen, although I always used to bring it to my grandparents house and hook it up to their tv since it was so small and portable.

They’re pretty rare, usually selling for upwards of £40 - I managed to get one for £5 along with the console, power lead, two controllers and two memory cards years ago at a boot fair all in working order (in fact it had never been opened for repair at the time and still hasn’t). Mine is in pretty poor condition nowadays aside from the display itself, but still works just as well as it used to when I bought it! Aesthetically it’s pretty much tattered, though :P

Dude i had one of these when i was a kid. We had an accessory outlet for the cars cigarette lighter and would play that thing during long ass road trips, or whenever we were staying at someone's house. Such good memories
These were great ESPECIALLY for their time. Back when we were still mostly using CRT displays, this was one of the easiest ways to make almost any system portable when using the AV in jack. Theres a screen for the GameCube that fits on the top and works in a similar fashion to this.

I never gotten a corrupted memory card. However if you had it in your pocket alongside keys or metallic objects etc you could demagnetize it so it would never ever work again. I unfortunately had that happen to a FULL memory card for ALL my game saves of FINISHED games! I basically lost EVERYTHING!!! 🤮🤬😭 Still hurts to this day. Bought new memory card, never ever put it in a pocket nor next to metallic objects ever again.

Dont need super glue to keep the lid open, just shove a small chunk of folded up paper and slide it in there, worked for me when I was a kid and no glue needed
There is HDMI to AV so you can play more systems on that screen. Plus, a Wii has an AV cable, so you can play Wii games on PS1 portable. Also, using a power bank can also lead you to playing on the go. (Example: Airplane/Airport)
I miss having this lot of great memories playing gran Turismo and Tekken 3 all the time he forgot to mention you can also plug 🔌 in your headphones 🎧 on the back of the screen for late gaming which I did every night

I used to play the jak and dex games on my ps2 faithfully , unfortunately the memory card i used corrupted my files so many times , maybe I did something wrong with it but man did those memory cards cause some rage lmao

I never gotten a corrupted memory card. However if you had it in your pocket alongside keys or metallic objects etc you could demagnetize it so it would never ever work again.
I unfortunately had that happen to a FULL memory card for ALL my game saves of FINISHED games!
I basically lost EVERYTHING!!!

Dont need super glue to keep the lid open, just shove a small chunk of folded up paper and slide it in there, worked for me when I was a kid and no glue needed
There is HDMI to AV so you can play more systems on that screen. Plus, a Wii has an AV cable, so you can play Wii games on PS1 portable. Also, using a power bank can also lead you to playing on the go. (Example: Airplane/Airport)
