"As long as you're paying your taxes and being a moderately responsible citizen, there's really no reason to be an adult." I need to frame that quote and hang it on my wall.
My mantra has always been, for decades: "One must mature but should never grow up."
So true. Adults are constantly under pressure to be an “adult”.
Be serious, purposeful, disciplined, take on as much responsibility as one can, etc.
We feel shame if we need a breather, want time off, want to play. Yes play! We all need to play far more often than we probably do.
I'm a teacher and I tell something like this to my students every year. "Never grow up, grow up just enough to be able to pay your bills and hold down a job. Otherwise, act silly, be curious, I'm a man in my 40's and I have no problem doing this." I'll then put my pinkies in my mouth, pull my mouth open, stick out my tongue and go "Bleeehh!" It always gets a laugh. Then again, teaching sort of keeps you young.
"When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
C.S. Lewis
Paying taxes is for suckers
“Welcome to Costco, I love you”
Camacho may have been over the top but he DID want to solve problems and make life better for everyone. He was smart enough to listen to someone smarter than him and make decisions. Problems did get solved and life got better so it's hard to say he was a bad president.
Not only that, but he held the person responsible for solving the problems accountable for deliverables. That’s actual leadership.
And he listened to people smarter than him. Literally the 3 things needed to be in charge of anything.
I can agree with that. Let's get Trump or DeSantis and start righting the ship again
@@killerskittles The same Trump that never admits ignorance, nor does he defer to actual experts? That guy that sharpied his guess of a hurricane path over Florida? The same guy that wanted to stop covid testing because "it made things look bad" ? That guy? Hahahahahahahhaha!!!
@@killerskittles What's an example of a problem Trump solved? Brown people's kids being with their mothers?
Idiocrasy went from one of the best comedies to one of the best documentaries.
Oh the irony
@@5Ci0N yup. The last 6 years have been the film more or less over there in the states
white people aren't breeding above replacement level
From Comedy -> Documentary -> Horror
it wasn't even that good a comedy. The second half wasn't very good.
Camacho was a great president in the movie. He recognized things needed to change and made it happen. He empowered the right people to be leaders.
the least realistic part of the movie honestly
@@BunzJackson 🤣
Camacho gave the smartest guy on the planet an important job.
True!
Idiocracy is on my top 10 fav movies. When it came out it was a comedy but now it's a horror story because it is so true!
Thats true, lol!
Teachers and parents told me basicly the same thing and it killed a perfect career for me. I always goofed around outside of school, and some inside school, but never realized it was a career. No teacher ever said, You should try acting or comedy. I just got punished for being myself. I tried regular jobs for 40 years and they ALL SUCKED! Then I was in an independent movie. I had a small part, but it was so fun and I realized THIS is what I want to do!!! So now I'm in my low 60s starting my new career as a professional goof in comedy entertainment.
Let us be the judge of that. What movie? Where’s the clips?
@@bansheeofinisheerin The movie is called "The Last Fireplace", written and directed by Shaun Doyle. It hasn't been released yet. It takes place roughly 100 years in the future after the apocalypse. There was a king who ruled northeast Ohio and his queen wanted a child, which they couldn't have. So the king sent a bounty hunter out to find a child for her. There were a couple sub plots. I played the jester for the king. The cast liked my performance, but I think I could have done better. I liked the movie. Not bad for a first try.
@@jfjkdkjfj Nice, well link the video here when it comes out so we can watch it
JF, I'm just a random guy over here, but godspeed and good luck- I admire that attitude, and wish you the best!
idiocracy is insanely accurate!
Both Idiocracy and The Dead Zone are coming true.
I think that silliness is such an asset to have in life. When those awful situations happen, which come for all of us, we need to have that ability to cope
Indeed!
1:42 Someone on social media pointed it out, I can't remember who (heck, maybe it was Luke) that Camacho had a key ingredient to being a good President that others lacked where he *knew he didn't know things*. He seeks out Bauers' help because he doesn't know if he's an expert but he knows that Bauers at least knows better than anyone else around. Such a simple quality and I guess part of the joke is that we could devolve to a time where that taken-for-granted quality becomes extraordinary.
Only with "guidance" we devolve.
In that very picture there is my favourite element too: there is a car which drives down from the broken highway into a heap of cars. They were just drivin’ around you know...
It's got electrolytes
This was one of my middle school movies that was always on during sleepovers. Same with “without a paddle”, and “the pick of destiny”. Some of my favorite feel good movies.
Without a paddle will always hold a special place for me
Love Pick of Destiny
without a paddle!!!!!
As a generally pretty funny kid in middle school, and then into high school - I definitely resonate with the "stop doing that, you're crazy" regarding being funny. So much so that I was placed in classes called "behavioral disorder" classes; I wasn't violent, or anything of the sort - I was just funny in class. Isn't the public school system great in the US? Label a kid as having a behavioral disorder instead of "oh, this kids funny, maybe have some creative outlet for him".
Anyway. I'm in IT now. Still funny. No I won't fix your computer.
Damn I thought you meant the IT movie so I thought you were still trying to be funny 😂
@@xchapix lol no no, technology I should say I guess :)
This was one of my favorite episodes this year. Luke Wilson and Conan were just on a roll the entire time
I agree. One of the funniest yet. I laughed so hard. Luke is a very funny guy.
As an educator watching the awareness of the world and the resistance to work and things that are "no fun" progress year over year, Idiocracy was clearly a window into the future.
education has been getting worse and worse since... 1840 i think
@@the_Analogist4011 From 1990 to 2005 it fell off a fecking cliff. Kinda sorta as celebutwit culture and the internet grew.
@@ROOKTABULA lets not be confused, that culture grew largely because of school, not in spite of it
3:34 This immediately made me think of "Everything's coming up Milhouse!"
lol
I've been litteraly saying for the last ten years is that the movie is slowly becoming less of a comedy and more of a prophecy. It has electrolytes!
Great guest...great episode!
The outtro of this episode is epic..I can't wait for the video!
Was Luke on coke?
Talkin to yourself isn't crazy, that's just thinking out loud,
but having a full-on conversation with someone that's not even there right next to you is crazy😂
Knowing that the people who worked on the movie felt such a personal connection to it just makes me love that movie even more. Props to Mike for literally living in the future while everyone else is stuck in the present.
I love watching these clips while drinking a Brawndo.
"It's got electrolytes"
It's what plants CRAVE!
Have you tried water? You mean from the toilet???
Oh my balls is making a comeback scros
With an extra BIG ASS TACO! Now with more MOLECULES!
Greatest documentary of all time!
Crispy sweet potato fries are hard to come by.
That last quote by Conan is something I needed to hear as a young boy! WOW! 😯😯
Camacho cared about the people he represented, understood there were big problems, and was willing to let those smarter then him suggest solutions, then implement them. i'd be pretty happy with him as president. plus he would be intimidating af to other leaders
And he was awesome!!!
At this point I’d definitely vote for Camacho. He’d almost certainly be better than the last four guys.
Sadly ideal leaders like Camacho only exist in fiction.
Exactly , president Camacho actually cared about the people and wanting them to have a good life, he promised his people to find a solution to the crop problems and he solved it with Joe , and people get to enjoy life with those big ass fries 🍟🍟 , burritos 🌯🌯🌯 and cheap beer 🍻 all sponsored by Carl's Jr lol
"We running outta corn chips and burrito coverings" - Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho.
Luke and Owen have the same speaking cadence but Owen tends to go high in pitch.
Herbet is in the name somewhere lol
I'm increasingly convinced that Idiocracy is simply a documentary from the future sent back in time and recut to be a movie.
No actually I came up with the core ideas for it after I graduated university in '99. That's the thing about economists, we look at trends.
Hurry up and get all the big ass fries and burrito before they run out lol
"But, Branwdo's got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes. "
But what are electrolytes? Do you even know?
@@wyskass861It's what they use to make Brawndo.
@@dr.trebuchet3836 And why do they crave it? Because it's got electrolytes. Now I get it.
Classic, prophetic film
Always thought of that movie as a documentary of the US as it is today..

lol yes I finally realized like, maybe in my twenties or something, that literally every human being that has ever lived or ever will live talks to their self all day every day. It is usually referred to as (wait for it!😅)- thinking! Haha when I finally had that realization, I realized that I was not necessarily crazy like many friends and acquaintances had said. I just think out loud. A lot. Haha so it’s a balance, in life, of thinking out loud or thinking thoughts inside my own mind, and I try to balance it and, or, control it for various social situations because, unfortunately, there are still those people that still exist in the world that will automatically say you are crazy if you talk to yourself out loud or think to yourself out loud for whatever reason.
For me, in most cases I'm not thinking out loud. I'm just talking to myself about things I find interesting since no one else will listen. I wouldn't call what I do thinking, that's for sure. And I am most likely insane.
His Mike impression was spot on lol.
I rewatch the movie like twice a year, its the best
So funny how much it touches a central nerve for Conan, by the end he's petting his left upper wrist hair like a cat.
Welcome to costco...I love you.
My favorite background thing was the clocks. They were always flashing 12:00 because no one knew how to change the time on them. That was every VCR in America during the entirety of the 90’s.
Yes finally some form of validation. I have been saying for years that on a long enough timeline America would descend into the plot of Idiocracy.
Been clear since the movie came out 17 years ago
Has the lighting budget been slashed?
The first i believe 15 minutes of the movie are really a highly compressed hilarious image of our society. I have to watch it again soon, saw it a long time ago.
Loved this conversation, thanks for that S2
his bathroom break was legendary
If you think about it,
President Camacho is a good president given the circumstance. At least he actually listens to the people and he listens to "Not Sure" who may not be an expert, but is most likely the most qualified person for the job.
Exactly, Camacho promised to solve the crop problems and now people get to enjoy big ass fries 🍟🍟, burritos 🌯🌯 and being sponsored by Carl's Jr lol
Love the podcast conana
I left this movie dvd at a party to be found. Everyone was talking about how it changed their lives forever mwahahahaha :)
I always thought Idiocracy was a documentary.
Both Idiocracy and The Dead Zone are coming true.
Hey! I'm one of those kids! Undiagnosed/untreated anxiety and depression didn't help (what up Gen-X!) but I learned it was a lot safer to just shut up than be told it over an over and over. Now the stuff I thought was funny basically became funny and I had 0 part in any of it. Ifs and buts...
To be fair, I was diagnosed and treated and that didn't help me either
LOVE Idiocracy 😁😁😎😎🙏🙏
Tbh thought it was Tig Notaro in the preview.
Mountain dew is future of farming!! 😂😂
Idiocrecy is one if the best movies. So fun and warning of our political system.
Camacho hired the smartest man alive in 2505. At this point, before it gets beyond this point, and giving the circumstances that's a plus.
I wish the studio would release the movie on bluray.
The truly mature aren't threatened by silliness. In themselves or others.
Why are there only clips of this...people want full vid I feel...its up to them but i think Podcasters should try to do both...if posdible...some people want vid...so have both and put them both out

I've been told almost my entire life that people need to be serious and they aren't allowed to joke around unless they want to be poor.

terry crews was genius as president camacho! but if you go back to his state of union address, it's luke wilson's
looks of bewilderment and disbelief that really sell that scene. you cant even hear a word he's saying amid the thunderous speech amd applause lol! comedy gold from all involved!
It's hilarious and kinda strange seeing the perpetrators of Idiocracy becoming real life talk about how it's become real life. Hmm wonder why, guys?

Idiocracy is of my favorite comedy films but I’ve been saying for years that it’s become a documentary.
the prophet mike judge needs more recognition for his prophecy work
Everyone should watch LegalEagle's review of Idiocracy.
I feel liquid IV is becoming Brawndo lol
One time I was flying out of Dallas Texas and I was in the Dallas Forth Worth airport bathroom. I was peeing and went to go wash my hands. Out of the stall comes out Luke Wilson. I didn’t wanna bother him but he fixed his collar and left.
He didn’t wash his hands
And then we all got covid
Wow
This clip will be funny to look back to when The Rock becomes president...
We have already had The Gipper/Raygun, and The Apprentice/You're Fired! fake reality actor/serial bankruptcy bozo.
Are you suggesting that a political party would elect a professional wrestler to a high ranking political office? Surely not, what kind of party would be that stupid?
Oh wait.
Idiocracy is spookily accurate in it's predictions.
Secretary Not Sure
I just saw Luke Wilson walking outside in Brooklyn. Lol
Scary how close this situation resonates with the movie!
Will do 👍
Both Idiocracy and The Dead Zone are coming true.
I just assumed hearing voices was part of the human condition.
Idiocracy is the "over the top" society nowadays 🤷🏾♂️
I would vote for Camacho before Biden again.

Idiocracy 2: Joe Biden boogaloo
What made Camacho a good president is that he actually cares about people and their problems weighed heavily upon him. That is more than nearly every modern president can claim.
There is no reason to be an adult. Thank you! I feel out of place in our society as an "adult"
I used to talk to myself, but we got into an argument so we're not speaking
Omg you all are the best This is making my morning Terry Crews for potus
Thank you. I always thought Idiocracy was a good movie.
I still don't understand how Owen became the more famous/hired brother.
This is your preferences. Luke equally if not has more work out there. You probably are just more exposed to comedy works, and Luke often does serious roles
Luke Wilson is Tom cruise brother low key
lol.... Herschel Walker for president! BOOM!
That would happen if he bent over for the new world order mob.
We would be better off with President Camacho instead of the Resident in Chief we have now.
U damn right he would make a good president
