    I find it unbelievable that my own doctor who prescribed my thyroid medication, and even increased it, also told me to take iron supplements and even offered to prescribe them for me. And she never bothered to mention the most important part which is taking them several hours apart😤in the past 3 weeks I have been expecting positive results quickly (considering it has always taken effect quickly after an increase and Ive been on them for 8 years now), but instead found that my thyroid symptoms have worsened drastically!! Now I know why. I changed doctors. Thank you for this information.

    Hi Dr. Childs,
    OMG!! Thank you 🙏🏻 for making this video!! I am 60 years old, and I have had headaches and a variety of symptoms my whole life. I have told numerous doctors about my many symptoms over the years, and I have yet to get the help I should have had!
    Anyway, last year, I switched doctors again, looking for answers, and I found an internist with a PhD. I thought I had found someone who could finally help me. I was wrong.
    When we had to start wearing masks, I was unable to breathe. It was awful. Even if I wore the mask for 15 minutes, I’d deal with breathing issues for hours and days as well as other symptoms. I called my doctor, and she basically told me it was in my head. I called my cardiologist, and they wanted me to have a bunch of cardiac tests that I had cleared a couple of years prior. The internist actually told me that all my arteries could have closed up in 2 years. It was absurd, and I lost all confidence in her.
    I had reviewed previous blood work that I had done before and after surgeries. I always ask for a complete iron panel including ferritin because I follow Dr. Stephen Sinatra, and I noticed that my ferritin was only 10 with a range of 10-232. I also noticed that my iron total was 45 with a range of 45-160, and my iron saturation was 13 with a range of 11-50. So I asked both doctors if my symptoms could be from low iron, and they both said no. I asked if my symptoms could be due to my thyroid and being low in iron, and they both said no. She did order an ultrasound of my thyroid because I have nodules, and my TSH was 0.21 with a range of 0.40-450.
    The PhD’s dismissal of iron as a possible cause for my symptoms was because she said that my iron binding capacity was fine at 350 with a range of 250-450, and my red blood cells were fine at 4.2 with a range of 3.80-5.10. I didn’t accept her answers or the cardiologist’s either, and I sent the blood work to my hormone doctor who put me on ferritin and iron supplements. I think within a month or so my symptoms subsided, and I was able to wear the mask without breathing problems. Also, my heart palpitations, my heart flopping around, chest heaviness, crushing fatigue and weakness also subsided. However, if I have blood work done, I have a flare up of some symptoms for a few weeks.
    I had a thyroid ultrasound done last week, and it was painful. I think I have 7 nodules. That night, after the ultrasound, I had a severe blood pressure and heart rate spike. I’ve had them before, and they are terrifying. It always happens about 2 or 3 am, and I can hear everything racing. I think it’s a thyroid storm. I have a video conference with a thyroid doctor tomorrow. I’m very concerned because I don’t want a needle stuck in my neck that results in another thyroid storm. I did have open heart surgery when I was 42. The doctors, 3, told me I only had 5 years to live because of my genetics. 20 years later, I’m still here thanks to Stephen Sinatra’s guidance. Is there any way to heal the thyroid naturally? Thanks 😊

    I have normal iron levels and hematocrit, but low ferritine value and slight elevated TSH (which is going down to normal) I respond pretty well taking extra iron (I take high dose twice a week) this is very interesting to see how so much of my issues are related. I never realised how messed up my vitamin and mineral status was until I watched many of your You Tubes!

      I have exactly the same issues as you. TSH 4.50 / Ferritin 14/ Normal to high hematocrit/hemoglobin.
      Did your TSH improve when you started taking iron pills?
      Do you still need levothyroxine?

    • @AnnaMaria-zm8cv
      @AnnaMaria-zm8cv Před 9 měsíci

      @@D.Daskalakis Hi, I never was on levothyroxine. My levels were not extreme high and my free T3 and T4 were normal. It was just not very obvious if I had issues with my thyroid as I lacked most symptoms and I had some of hyperthyroid as well as hypothyroid. They didnt want to go solely on lab results, nor did I. So doctors decided to just see if lifestyle changes would do the trick and medication would only be option if my TSH level would keep going up. My levels did go down over time and are now almost normal. I need to re-test half way January again. After months of trial and error with supplements, I figured out I had combined deficiency in vit D (came out of cellulair labtest) and likely magnesium (serum was normal but I took extra magnesium and B1 vitamins and my symptoms vanished). I also take iron twice a week super high dosed and it does seem to help me. But I do not know if that is due to the extra iron or the vit D/magnesium getting better. My body was in inflamation mode for months which imo triggered the higher levels of TSH and other symptoms. I have to be careful with iron as I possibly have porphyria, (Im waiting genetic test results) in which case supplementing iron can trigger a porphyria attack.

She did tell me to support with FS 325 mg, but nothing about my thyroid levels. I ended up buying an iron bisglycinate after some research, however I wish I would have come across this information before I purchased that as I would have bought the liquid iron, bummer. I did go see a different type of doc who ran a whole bunch of tests and was told I did have Hashimoto's, which was news to me since my doctor has never told me that.
    In your opinion does anemia cause high estrogen and low progesterone, or does the high estrogen/low progesterone result in low ferritin?? Thank you.

    Hello Dr. Westin, Thank you for all of the education you provide! I am an avid reader of yours. Question: I am currently being treated for hypothyroidism, and currently taking 50mcg of Levothyroxine and 10mcg of Liothyronine 10mcg. I have had several dosage adjustments, which did not seem to improve my symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue unlike anything previously experienced. Before I started thyroid medication, my ferritin was 90. Three months later, my ferritin was 34. (Transferrin 216, Iron 68, and Iron Saturation 23%, TIBC 302). I decided to take iron on my own and have noticed all of my symptoms resolved! My question is: you recommend an optimal ferritin of 40-50 for hypothyroid patients whereas I have seen other doctors/DC's recommend a ferritin of at least 100. Can you explain why your recommend 40-50? Is going above 50 detrimental? Thank you in advance.

They advise this for people who recover from infections as well to boost healthy bloodlevels. I when need it take higher dose of iron regularly, but every day a table spoon of this iron elixir as well just to ensure my daily needs. It may be too low to boost iron levels, but for those who have trouble taking iron, it may be helpful to at least get up to daily amounts in.
