Immediately after ascending the throne, the first Chinese emperor of the Qin dynasty, Qin Shi Huang Di, began building an underground burial palace. The Terracotta Army, which he commissioned in 221, can be found here. The army of around 8000 men has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
