Octopath Traveler - Therion the Cleric (Efficient Grind Build)

  • Octopath Traveler - Therion as a Cleric is extremely effective. Despite having a low SP stat, he never has to worry about being mana-starved since his Steal SP skill does great damage and keeps him topped up. This is especially effective in tandem with the Share SP skill, allowing you to stay in grinding spots indefinitely, or allowing you to save up items.
    Therion in and of himself is a fantastic character, with the highest evasion stat in the game and an extremely useful Steal ability. Not only that, there are specialized chests scattered across the game that only he can open, so it's almost always worth bringing him along with you on your adventures!
    Got any suggestions? Check me out on Twitter and give me a shout! ^^ // / fullmetalyoukai

    Therion is probably one of the best characters because of how flexible he is; Cleric definitely helps keep the party going without needing items, skills or inns, but he can be an insanely good mage as well; Heathcote’s dagger and Hareld’s sword both increase fire damage dealt, so you can just sit back and watch the world burn.

    one thing about the stats: secondary stats on weapons are only applied the round after u used that weapon, if you never hit with the staff you never get the increased dodge...same for the speed on the sword...i have seen it in more than one of your videos that it seems you are not aware of this, and im afraid it doesnt really matter anymore since its more than a year old but it just bothers me so i wanted to comment on that xD

    Great video, I use this build for almost everything as well :). One thing though, for Cyrus, instead of using elemental aid, use the runelord support skill “augmented elements”. It gives almost the same boost to damage but doesn’t double your mana costs.

    • @blackwind92
      @blackwind92 Před 4 lety

      CMIIW, but do you perhaps mean Elemental Edge (instead of Augmented Elements)? Still a noob here (just finished chapter 1s) but other posts I've seen say Edge gives a 50% boost like aid does w/o the cost while augmented only gives 20%.

    Love your videos! Cait is Gaelic for "cat" and pronounced similarly.. if not more like "ca-ch" in Scottish Gaelic. In FF7 and later we see Cait Sith (cat shee) or traditionally spelled Cait Sidhe.. You also see the word Sidhe used in the traditional spelling Bean-Sidhe (or banshee). Sidhe (sith, shee) meaning fairy.. but were otherwise used as a term for spirit beings. All this coming from dating a fluent Irish Gaelic for many years.. The more you know!

    This is cool. Therion has so far been the character I'm least interested in, and he kind of wound up with Cleric simply due to the fact that every other subclass was assigned. I will definitely reference this when building him!

  • @blackwind92
    @blackwind92 Před 4 lety

    I was pretty close to giving Warrior (then Warmaster) to Therion but couldn't figure out a way to efficiently keep Haanit on the party so I kept looking for alternatives. Cleric is definitely the way to go since grinding everyone's JPs is going to be a pain, lol. Is leveling everyone together necessary or could I finish Therion's (main) story & maybe go back & level the unused 4 together if I want?

    I find Saving Grace to be absolutely essential for trying to tackle tough bosses early, as it ensures your survival while you're setting buffs/debuffs. After that I'd say Starseer abilities are an absolute MUST to get as early as possible as it's passive abilities are by FAR the best in the game collectively! Then after that Hunter for Patience which is just invaluable to have on everyone!
    After that you can focus on some of the less important stuff like SP Regen thru the Dancer class, SP Saver thru Merchant, Surpassing Power to boost damage, and then the other advanced classes and such. But yeah, I'd say Cleric for Saving Grace, Starseer for the absolute bevy of amazing support skills (not to mention JP growth!) & then Hunter for Patience should be the absolute priorities.
    The SP+50 thru the Cleric ain't bad either & will help to keep your SP pools from running out during tougher fights. You can honestly just use Alfyn to refill everyone while you're still leveling your characters to save up for the other SP saving skills. I honestly prefer to be buffing/debuffing with Therion rather than wasting turns with him on SP management, which is something Alfyn can do party wide much better. Cleric is still a great class for him though, as is Dancer and Hunter.

    This is not a bad combo, although I think it's kind of prudent to make your Dancers Clerics & your Clerics Dancers, considering they both contain the main single target party buffs, & it's SUPER convenient to only have to do one cast of the Dancers Divine Skill to have both sets of buffs affect the entire party! It's much more rare to need the Thief Debuffs to affect the entire enemy party, considering you usually want to be Debuffing a single boss opponent.

  • @magikot
    @magikot Před 5 lety +5

    Therion makes a great sorcerer for grinding. With his weapon access you can give +1 to fire, dark, wind, and ice. His speed means he's almost always first. And it's negligibleto very his e.atk. to 999

    • @rambo111ism
      @rambo111ism Před 4 lety +5

      Yes therion sorc is the best grinder full stop. He always goes first and with double fire weapons boost he ONLY needs to spam fire spell and will one shot every random encounter in game. This video is kind of triggering. His soo strong as a grinder that your problem isnt killing things quick its managing his sp so you will find its best to exchange some offensive passive skills for some sustainable ones e.g sp saver. All depends how much dps you really need to get the same outcome.

    Ok now THAT'S wild. I didn't realize that Therion's Share SP can Overheal SP for a person. Is there any limit to that? Like let's say Therion shares 300 SP to a character with just 50 Max SP. Will the other character still get all of it and end up with 300 SP over their max?

    Considering Therion has the lowest Elemental Defense growth in the game, you wouldn't think he would make for a very good Cleric... Healing in this game is based off the Elemental Defense stat.
    I would train him in that class tho for the support skills but that's about it. I definitely would not keep him as a Cleric full time.

    I’m fairly confused on what to even do in this game, I love it to death but after all the first chapters am I literally just suppose to sit and farm exp for hours by battling the same enemies in same area over n over until I’m the “recommended” rank or higher, I went into Grideon boss and got completely buckled to pieces but not everyone was over lvl 24

      Divvy Glazed I feel like gideon or whatever his name is kind of deterred me, people seem to agree he is true hardest of all ch 2 bosses so it was a mistake to start my ch 2 on him lol, Ive instead gone into each ch 2 town and geared up and ranked my group to 20+ n going to start a different ch 2

    @Warbec Před 5 lety +13

    So you say that Primrose is the fastest character in the entire roster? I find that very strange, as Therion is the fastest one and deals 99k dmg AoE at lvl 60 thanks to his speed and buffs. I'll try again to see how much I can get using Primrose.

      Michael Youmans Corrosive on enemy, Speed and Physical Attack buffs on Therion. Support Skills have to include the one that removes the 9999 cap and the one from Starseer that increases dmg of Boosted Skills. After getting the 2 buffs on Therion and Armor Corrosive, his Thief's ultimate ability will do 99k AoE.

      You shouldn't have to level every class anyway tbh. The leveling for classes is all based on JP, so you can technically save up the max amount of JP or some immense amount, and just cycle through unlocking all the skills for every job class regardless of whether you even go out and use them or not since JP is universal per character and not linked directly to the class you play as while your earn it

    don't think dat is the best option... Therion has a lot of physical attack, it's better for him to combine with another p attacker like warrior or hunter... a versatile play with a dancer perhaps for boost but cleric... i don't think so.

  • @skins4thewin
    @skins4thewin Před rokem

    Lol I really feel like sharing SP is just a waste of Therion's potential. That is no way to use a character when Inspiriting Plums are so plentiful and ESPECIALLY considering Concoct exists. There are just so many better ways you can use those accessory slots, as the only reason you'd ever need to increase his SP is if you're of course using him like an SP battery, which again is just a real waste of his potential. He can be doing so many more important things with his turns, such as buffing/debuffing!

    @skins4thewin Před rokem

    Share SP & using Therion this way is such an amateur beginner's trap imo. Plum's are more than plentiful in this game so you may as well use them, and I'd rather restore my SP between battles vs wasting a turn to do it in battle. You won't run out of SP mid battle in most fights, and when you do you can just as easily use a Plum. Just saying, you could be doing much more interesting builds with Therion than making him an SP battery. It's quite the waste of his character potential imo.
