Using that amount of filler to fill a pickup hole! Create a wooden plug to match the hole, glue it in and use filler to take up the slack in the small gaps.
I heard Jeff Kiesel talking about crackle finishes in an interview he did. He said something about,..if you wanted more reveal on your crackle,...you had to add more activator to your base color. I don't know what that means,...I just remember him saying it.
Crackle seems to be an effect caused by layering dissimilar types of paint that chemically react with each other. I've done it myself accidentally trying to get just the right shade of pickup covers for a build. Odds are Kiesel is mixing all their own stuff in-house, and thus can control the "activator" in the basecoat - which is likely the active ingredient that reacts with the crackle coat (I'm not a paint expert). In this video it looks like he's using a pre-mixed rattle can crackle paint, and thus may not have that level of control over how the paints react with each other. Jeff Kiesel is a third generation luither whos' personal specialty is custom paint jobs, so its not surprising he knows a few crackle tricks.
@@normbarrows Yeah. I'd say your correct. I didn't factor in him using rattle cans. I do know that they sell a 3 stage crackle finish system from PPG that's for auto applications,.....and my buddy got it and tried it on an old Stew Mac strat body he had,...and it turned out incredible. The only thing that was of concern,...oddly enough,... was the weight it added. We didn't weigh it before hand but we assumed it was around 7 to 8 lbs. After applying the 3 stage crackle finish it weighed 10.8lbs. We were absolutely floored. You could tell as soon as you picked it up,..it was substantially heavier. Now,...the amount of clear that was applied was substantial,...and the orange base coated had to be very thick in order to cover properly. It looked great,...but would definitely detract from tonal characteristics.
This washburn looks so good! I didn't expect the guy to want to block the floyd rose. The way I see most of the people who don't like them are people who had a bad floyd. The Gotoh floyd and the Schecter's Floyd 1000 series are the best that I tried so far.
Welcome back Mark, very cool to see that trash to thrash is back and that was an awesome guitar I already can't wait to see next week's episode that was awesome stay safe stay happy stay well and rock on and please don't stop doing what you love to do because I believe that you inspire a lot of people including myself definitely much love and respect.
Ha! What a coincidence! It's not a Solar V, but this year I started rebuilding a Washburn elctric that I picked up a while back as a project guitar. I'm turning an HSS with a Strat-style bridge into a single pickup axe with a Floyd Rose!
Came here because of Ola.... But..... I've got a Yamaha rgz 421 from the early 90's that I've always wanted to modernize by removing the middle single coil and leaving the factory humbuckers. It's a teal finish, I'd like it in a satin green.
Appreciate your channel brother. I attempted to dip my toes in the guitar customization pool. It’s quickly becoming an addiction. I’ve currently got a Jackson warrior that’s going to need to be resanded and brought back to square one as the paint just won’t dry. So I’ve been watching as many tutorials as I can to prepare for round 2.
I bought a brand new Jackson X series King V about 9 years ago that came with stock EMGs and it had a ground wire on the trem claw so I snipped it off.
Awesome finally trash the thrash is back! Can’t wait for 2 o’clock to come around to watch a new episode and that’s solar crackle looks sick, great job mark can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds for us, you are an inspiration to us hobbyist that like to mod our guitars including myself keep up the great work bro rock on 🤘🏻 🎸🎶
I have an old Washburn, X7R Pack, I only have the guitar, but in the past you would find a pack with guitar, amp etc... I'm not using the stock pickup, but the guitar was a nice surprise, actually is kind of nice, the neck is not as thin, and it feels very confortable! This solar washburn V is awesome, really beautiful! I'm glad the crackle is back! Very nice finish !
My guitar teacher,...Steve Kaufman,....had a 100% original 1928, 00-8, Parlor acoustic with a slotted headstock. It has had a re-fret,...but what pre-war acoustic hasn't??lol??One of the best sounding small bodied acoustics I've ever played. Plays amazing as well.
Great video bro. Love the work you do! One thing tho, is I wouldn’t say that Dime is the most notable Washburn player. Nuno has been playing them for like 30 years. He has the N2 and the N4. Also designed a couple LP style guitars with Washburn. Again, thanks for the great content bro! 🤘
That's a very good point. In my opinion overall Dime still has bigger name and impact but considering all the points you said Nuno is Washburns top artist. Sort of like Slash is to Gibson or Vai with Ibanez.
If I'm not mistaken one of the guitar players from Shadows Fall played a Washburn guitar and there's a few other metal groups that played Washburn guitars besides Dimebag Darrell the guitar player from Shadow Falls and I'm not mistaken one of the members that used to be in Black Label Society believe you played a Washburn guitar
@@johnmarden5935 Correct, and that is something that Mark would normally have done, but it was already filled with filler when he received it. If you look at some of his past videos it shows him filling holes with a block of wood.
If you dont mind what lime green paint do you use? I used a lime green when I built my desk but it took soooo many coats so I was wondering if theres a better option. I wanna say mine was krylon or something lime green.
Welcome back and LOVE your work. I was looking at how many subs you had and was surprised at the number. You should have half a million easy. Due to the quality of work and video. Hoping your channel grows in a huge way this year. I'm going to share this video with all my friends and ask them to subscribe. Maybe you could do a guitar give away centred around this type of marketing/promotion. I live in Australia so to forget to include all countries. Keep up the fantastic work.... cheers mate.
I have both and will agree with that. Got a ST1 and a Dime Bolt and they are way better than the Dean from Hell and the Dime Flame, Washburns are just better made than Dean.
Hey I have a 61 or 63 completely stripped down les Paul Jr but it looks like the SG and I was going to get it working for a friend of mine how do I get help from someone like you do get it playing again with a few mods to it
That came out so sick man!
Thank you my man!! 🤘🏼
@@GuitarGuts Love your channel and your t style guitars are amazing. Love metal and telecasters 🤘🤘🤘
Hyped for the return of Trash to Thrash! Hope you've had a good break and have been able to get motivated again - you're a huge inspo!
Using that amount of filler to fill a pickup hole!
Create a wooden plug to match the hole, glue it in and use filler to take up the slack in the small gaps.
Or replace the pickup
I love how you have "the plan" showing how it's going to look.

The song at the end sounded straight up like In Flames. As a huge IF fan, I approve and legit thought it was actually IF for a second
As for a crackle tip, the thickness of the coat of black crackle paint is how to adjust crackle size thick coat makes thicc open cracks 🤤

I really like the gotohs. Surprised they aren't used more.
Yes so happy your back love trash to thrash its my favorite youtube series to watch
I would call this one the Anaconda beautiful Guitar Man love the heck out of your videos
Nice job once again, Mark! That neon green and black crackle really pops well together. Really enjoy your videos!
This thing is a metallic bringer of green destruction.
I had a Washburn Bass guitar back in the mid 90's. It was pretty nice.
The best pickup out there I love the railhammer ❤️
Thanks for the tip on the saddles, I did not know that either.

Came over here from Olas videos, nice videos your got here, I enjoy them
Hell yeah man! So glad to see trash to thrash back!
Ola's channel brought me to your channel. Both are amazing!
You have made it mark Ola Englund seen this video and shared it it is awesome while hope you get millions of views man you deserve it.

I suggest glueing in wooden blocks and then fill around it.
Great episode, crackle looks awesome and lots of information (trem adjustment!) 🤘
I’m in the process of painting my 1st guitar and I love your work
That finish is so sick!
Cheers for the heads up on the Floyd saddle shenanigans. It's not a well known thing. The white logo looks great Yurt!

On your shop fan put an air filter in front of it like you would use un your home system. Fane will last longer and it will help with fumes.
Guitar looks killer, good to see you back.
looks amazing man! keep it up i love the good work
American Washburns are amazing and not common. Nuno Bettencourts has had a signature with them for over 20 years.

Awesome build! 🤘🏻 Never liked the foam under the bridge, though. It always looks better without it, so you can see more of the paintjob.
I have a Washburn guitar from early middle 90s
That guitar looks so awesome, and sounds killer. 👌
Love how informative this is
Guitar looks and sounds killer now. Great job.
Yes! Trash to thrash is back!
I discovered using mow hawk ez vinyl sealer really helps with Montana crackle paint.
That thing looks pretty good but I think I would prefer a larger crackle pattern. Amazing work overall. Keep it up!
I haven’t seen saddles that are different heights on a floyd rose. All of mine have shims.

Kinda reminds me of Bernie Rico guitars Gary Holt used to play.
That Solar looks killer!
You're tempting me to refinish most of my guitars😂😂
Instead of steel wool I use 2000-6000 grit wet/dry paper to clean frets
Shoutout to the Dreamcast, woop woop!
I love how it sounds its amazing
Dude this is amazing work!!
Dude that crackle be wicked cant wait to send my ltd to ya kick ass hyped for the give away
Oh man!!!that Solar looks great!
wooooooooooooooooo thats one bitching axe dude im surprized ola has not come out with crackle series yet love it
Could you make a video showing how to do this exact wiring job in more detail please.
Great job. Awesome. Can you make any headstock sticker, like Charvel?
Love that finish!!!
I’ve never liked the crackle finish. However, this is done very tastefully!
Love the fact you use LTD guitars. I have a MH 401 and would love to see what you could do with it. Definitely needs an upgrade.

Damn it’s been too long! Missed you bro
If only I didn’t redo one of my guitars lol, this is some cool stuff
This man deserves more subs!!
#underrated
A cool refinishing job for sure. Shame to do that to a F:oyd - should have just put a hardtail on it.
He actually was a Strictly 7 artist before Wasburn. I believe it was before.
The shirts awesome, dont see their merch much
a question ... how do you get bigger less tight crackle like the brandon ellis jackson ?
If I'm not mistaken one of the guitar players from Shadows Fall played a Washburn guitar and there's a few other metal groups that played Washburn guitars besides Dimebag Darrell the guitar player from Shadow Falls and I'm not mistaken one of the members that used to be in Black Label Society believe you played a Washburn guitar
Awesome great guitar 🎸. Rock
Mark.!! You forgot Nuno Bettencourt.!! He’s the most known Washburn guitar player.
When filling the pickup home you could cut a "plug" out of wood the size and thickness of the hole and use a hole lot less filler and less settling
@@johnmarden5935 Correct, and that is something that Mark would normally have done, but it was already filled with filler when he received it. If you look at some of his past videos it shows him filling holes with a block of wood.
Nino Betancourt plays Washburn guitars he sponsored by them.
Didin't know that Washburn is so old

Okay, that’s bad ass…
I spy an ML body hanging in the background
Awesome!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Mortal Kombat Reptile's guitar.
i love these videos
I believe the holes should have been filled with wood.
Try a heat gun with the crackle to control it better.
Which kind of paint do you use? Spray paint specifically for wood? Im wanting to try my hand at this
Nuno bettencourt is prob the most known washburn player.

You Shred !!!!
The problem with satin clear on crackle paint is it is tough to get enough build up to make the paint smooth. Do you have this problem?
You can feel the texture a bit but I did use a ton of clear. I told the customer he’d be able to feel the crackle ahead of time, and he liked that.
Beard looks good on ya my friend!!!
Drop A# and Floyd…u guys are insane 🤣, how you find the right springs for that?!
yo, is that a king v fitted out with extra horns to become a king stealth? ive been thinking of doing something similar to my js32
Might have a T TO T Project
The Washburn Dime are way better than Dean's
I have both and will agree with that. Got a ST1 and a Dime Bolt and they are way better than the Dean from Hell and the Dime Flame, Washburns are just better made than Dean.
WOW!
Were you born in a Sanatarium? If so, Welcome Home!
Why don’t you cut out a wood block and glue it into the cavity and fill the gaps?
Sick
It would of looked so much better with big cracks.. sucks how unpredictable that spray is.
How does someone go about doing what you do ? How do you learn how to make and mod guitars ?
check out these channels, that's how I learned..... czcams.com/video/gEheQCFHzR0/video.html
