We finally a few mins of dry weather so Rachel & I got to the range to try the Buffered vrs No Buffer buckshot loads to see what kind of patterns we would get at 50 meters! - Sport
Thanks Wade and Rachel, that was an interesting test. I've pick up much insight from the B.R.O. channel.
That is some incredible groups. I remember the days running out with a modified choke cause everyone told me I couldn’t or wouldn’t get a decent group out of a tighter choke. I bought a butt kicker.
Great test and video. My favourite channel on CZcams. Keep up the good work. God Bless you guys.
I can’t wait to see your data at 75 meters(81yards). God bless you and your family. Keep up the good work!
*Mr. Rush is right about buffer making little or no difference with "hard cast shot". I would speculate that SOFTER SHOT at higher velocities might prove to 'scatter more without buffer' or 'hold tighter patterns with buffer'. That is one of the benefits of handloading Buckshot. We can choose what we put in there to get the results we want.*
Hi Wade. Stumbled upon your channel. Watched about 5-6 of your videos over about a month and decided I needed to subscribe. Your content is excellent and your video quality and editing is awesome. I’m trying to learn for my current channel and watching you set the bar high gives me something to shoot for. I also enjoy that you have fishing, too on your channel. We do a lot of that up here in the Pacific NW. Take care and keep up the great work. Jeff Hale.
Great information , I love your shot shell videos !
Good video and great test . Thanks
I agree with you Wade salt is to corrosive for buffer!!!! I use saw dust sifted through a hand held sifter, like you use for flour.. seems to work really good for me & cost nothing!!!!
Hi there Wade,
Another top full of information, thanks for sharing and best regards from Kiwi-land, Down Under, Tony.
It sometimes does matter and other times no. My best pattern was with a 26" barrel and a cylinder choke with buffer. The worst was with a full choke with a 28" barrel with no buffer @ 30 yards. Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 guage. BAM #1 buck 2 3/4 ". Every gun likes something different.
that looked like a lot of dead dear at that range great video thanks for sharing
I would sure be satisfied with the last pattern with the buffer. That is a dead deer and I always loved for mine to put some on target. My Late uncle had a browning that would always put two dead center until it got way out of range.
I use corn meal or sawdust lol
Works great!
Really good group's thanks for the information
Best buckshot tester ever 👌..from Greece
Wow nice video. Gotta get this buck kicker full choke tube
great video. I was thinking of using recycle 3D printer filament for my buffer compound. and damn i think ill invest in a 000 lead mold
Wade, I was surprised the buffered shot in the first two tests produced less velocity. I thought using the buffer to fill the shell voids would yield more pressure and higher velocity. Too bad we didn't get the reading for the non-buffered in the third test.
You gotta dang good personality , watching you from central KY !!
Awesome video
My friends are using unslit steel shot wad ,buffer and skeet or IC choke .The shot stays together very well 1 b and 00 you can go to modified .But anything larger will get damaged by full choke and not fly True .Lesson I learned shooting at a doe .1 pellet hit out of 9 on a 3 inch 000.Was made by Rotweill un bugfered ..I heard whistling after the shot thought it was a ricochet .the pellets deform on full choke
I have a mate that works at the railway workshops in Queensland Australia , and I get him to cut me out a couple of hundred copper disks for overshot cards . I use an improved cylinder choke , if you put some vasoline on the top a bottom of my cartridges when it's pissing down rain to keep the moisture out . I'm a professional shooter culling Razorbacks Ferrel dogs and Roos and been doing it for over 30 years now , I do all of my traveling and shooting from horseback , otherwise you would never get to the places I need to be on some of these cattle stations , Victoria River Downs in particular it's as big as Germany in size . Cheers from Australia kindest Regards Dan 👍
Nice review and great setup. Say, any tips on a good red dot for a 12 gauge shooting 25 - 50m?
I Make my own buffer I use standard white Styrofoam. Put it in a Nutra bullet blender with water and blend it for a while Then I take it out and spread it out on a cutting board. Let it dry out. It looks Just like the regular buffet you could buy
awesome!! I need to try that!
I just tried BP buffer in a load yesterday. My 00 load went from 7" at 25 yards to fist sized.
I could not import buffer. The shipping cost was sick! But found plastic blasting media. Looks the same as buffer, works fine and is cheep.
Great work! I’m assuming those are 3” hulls. I’ve got a similar Franchi. I really want to get into the 3 1/2” mag performance for long range coyotes. Anything further in the works?
THE 41 PELLETS LOAD WITHOUT BUFFER WORK FOR ME IN THE JAVALINAS AND MEDIUM SIZE WILD BOARS.. I USE A 30 INCH BARREL AND FULL CHOKE
Hi bubba. You can try greated candle like the buffer.
My old fixed full choke Mossberg does amazing with your#4 data that's my go to deer load but your 000 data is what I use for hogs where I hog hunt is thick palmettos and that 000 rips through with ease,
I wish you could sell your buckshot on the open market Mr, Wade you would be a millionaire inside 6 months, You have taken shotgun hunting to a new level, back in the 70's and 80's 50 yard's was a heck of shot if you dropped one now 100 yard's is common place
Have yall tried the #0000 Quad loads on the hogs? I bet that load would also be lights out!!
I shoot soft lead (air dried) while practicing for duty and home defense. Without buffer my Remington 870's get lead build up in the bores pretty fast. Your Alox and graphite coating does help a little though, but I still need buffer. (Our issue rounds are Federal Law Enforcement Tactical Flitecontrol 9 pellet OO Buckshot, (it originally was 8 pellet) copper shot, buffer and that wonderful Flitecontrol Wad and leaves a much cleaner bore.) Do they make that Flightconrol wad available as a component?
First 2 shots definitely looks better and tighter the one with buffer
4 years later, hope you and the family are all well.
The buffer did better in the first & last strings.
Nice video today keep it up and have yall went Turkey hunting yet
im curious wat if you use 12# dust shot instead of buffer. how that would affect things. i thing it would be a fun video to shoot n watch. God bless n get lots of buck.
Dear wade
Do you agree using millet bird seed as a buffer ?
I've seen some people using it but i never tried that .
Do you tumble your buckshot to round off the spurs left from casting.?
#4 Buck shot (41 Pellets), I use #4 Buck Shot and only use 21 Pellets (1 Ounce) in my load?
Great vid! I have a question, but I kind of feel it was already answered in your video here. Does buffer increase the pressure of loads? I know it is a debated subject atleast, but seeing you use identical loads and get similar velocity etc... it seems as though it had little to no impact with or without the buffer. I'm a 20 guage shooter and am sick of not having buckshot options available, or available at all at the moment really. Plus, I want some buck and ball and "pumpkin ball" shells and they just arent available for 20 guage. I will make my own! I am about to load atleast 500 buckshot shells for my 20 guage and am considering the buffer now. Having to factor in increased pressures etc would steer me away from using it, but I feel the science behind it makes sense and would personally like to buffer my buckshot. If course extensive testing will take place on my part with MY gun to see what works best... I just wonder if I need to cut back my powder or anything on the buffered shells to be safe? I appreciate any further info, if you can. I fully understand the questions come at ya like a machine gun, Haha. Thanks for another informative video sir!
Jim Brown
@bonezcustoms on IG
I know that the buffer does raise the pressures some, but in the case of these loads, it appears to be minimal... it may also greatly depend on the type of buffer used! I know that the pressures spike higher when I am using the Precision spherical buffer.
nice!
I can't fit 000 into a hull in layers of 3. 00 fits fine though so my 000 loads are only 8 pellets. Not sure how you squeeze in 10.
I'm loading 3" rounds... you can only get 8 pellets of .36 cal #000 in a 2.75" round.
buffer vs antimon % ? video pls. thanks.
"Bodyguard" do you sell any Buck&Ball loads, or any of the hard cast loads? I'd love to buy a few loads...
I think it’s Illegal to sell reloads. That’s why all the reloading companies don’t just start making their own brand of ammo and not just sell the components separately
@@ellismidkiff6117 I believe it is a ffl 6 you would need to commercially do reloading for resale. I had the ffl 6 years ago , the liability insurance got crazy.
Sorry, just got the other vid
Why wait for the data?
Am the only one who puts a laser pointer where the gun is going to be, aiming down range, and just center a target every 50 feet out to the maximum distance I want to test?
Get a pattern at every distance you want with just one shot, and you get real consistency because the other shells might have something different going on that will change the pattern.
can u use table salt as a buffer what do u think on this
Salt is too corrosive to shoot out of a firearm. IMHO. you would be better off to use corn starch or corn meal or maybe grits would work. Cream of wheat might work!
@@BubbaRountreeOutdoors I was gonna ask about grits because I saw a comment from an "Old Timer" claiming that grits work.
What are these "meters" you speak of?
Primer?
the new Fiocchi hulls have a Fiocchi 616 and the Cheddite hulls have a Cheddite primer.
@@BubbaRountreeOutdoors I heard you say you loaded them with a copy out of Remington Nitro hulls. What primer for them?
@@bradsullivan870 I usually use the Winchester primers.
Let me get this straight he's starting at 50 m which is basically 150 ft and moving back from there?
What is he shooting, a 28 inch barrel with a full choke?
The impression I got was most of the people here are looking for cooking up some up close and personal defensive rounds, or am I just projecting my expectations and desires on the channel?
these are ALL hunting rounds... here's the tactical stuff: czcams.com/video/2AxiEI7g9zA/video.html
I’m gonna guess buffer matters because you wouldn’t use it if not.
Buck shot is 00, That's a terrible group. And who says meters.
kind of risky changing hulls from the listed land data isn't it?
not aslong as the internal construction is roughly the same
Looks like you Yanks..using european Metrics now..,Kilometers,Meters,Centimeters,Millimeters...🤣🤣🇪🇺🇺🇸
you have to mention both now for sure Rick!
