I was in their show room a week ago, tried all of their models. I was expecting the interior quality and finish of a Toyota, but man, how wrong was I! Byd is definitely a game changer for the whole automotive industry, they are selling EVs at the price of a Toyota with with design and material quality of an Audi with the added bonus of an EV... there's no turning back for the whole industry a massive disruption is here that will benefit consumers most of all.

Yes, I was very impressed with it when I visited the Brisbane BYD showroom on Saturday. Build quality is on par with German vehicles I've been in recently and the styling is the best I've seen on an EV. Combined with some very positive reviews and positive experiences of ride quality in last years model the BYD Han when I visited China recently I'm very impressed. Needless to say I've the Performance on preorder via novated lease. Speaking to the guys in the store the vehicle they had there is a pre-production model and the interior colour is not what will be available in the final model. Anyway, very much looking forward to recieving mine. The Tesla EV's are big fat nothing burgers when it comes to styling. Just doesn't do it for me at all. The Seal however is just gorgeous and should be very nice for the daily commute into work. The drivers seat looks to be a wonderful place to be. Going with Atlantis Grey and Ocean Blue interior in mine. Rubber mats so easy to keep clean. Remserve have indicated late February..... Though could have been faster if I'd picked the black interior apparently. I'll wait and get what I want though ;)
Excellent video. I bought the car without seeing it. Even now I’ve never seen it in natural so it will be a really big surprise when I get it. My first EV.

I ordered my Seal Premium on the release day, and visited the showroom next day to check out the real thing. But they didn't have a show car. So I tried out the BYD Dolphin. I was really impressed. It look much more premium than the videos. I am having second thoughts because I only bought the Seal as a city drive around, range and recharge really doesn't matter for me, I will use petrol SUV for longer trips with the family. The Dolphin was surprsing roomy, espcially the back. However the boot is a bit small, but enough for my needs. So I am going to wait and test drive the Seal, if it doesn't wow me that much. I am going to save myself 17k and go with a cute little dolphin.
Dolphin is more than enough if only driving in the city. I don't mean seal is not good, just suitable . u got super confendent in the small/tight street.
You could also consider the MG4, which starts at around the same price as the Dolphin, but is bigger and also RWD.

I ordered the Premium when it was released on Tuesday evening and went to the opening of the Brisbane Flagship store (as BYD are calling it) on Thursday to see what I was getting into. I was very impressed and now can't wait to take delivery - hopefully December (as BYD were indicating) but fully expect some time in January.
I found the location of this new store to be difficult to get to being in the middle of a very busy part of the city with limited parking in the area. Why they did this, I don't know. I would have thought Experience Centres located in the north and south of Brisbane (not pop up centres) would make it a lot easier for the general public to actually go and look at the vehicles on offer.
Yes, I was there this week too. Unsure if you get free parking at the rear of the building. They did have a car park at the back underneath the building, but it isn't huge. Not sure if BYD customers can just rock up and park there for free. Regardless, as you say, a stressful location. I decided to ride the bike into the city up the bike paths which are fantastic in Brisbane, they take you right in to the heart of the city, and they are mostly empty. This took a lot of stress out of the journey in. Let me know how you get on when it arrives. You're going to love it :)
The one in Indooroopilly (also Brisbane) has a lot of free parking but I have not checked if or when they will have a Seal in the showroom. They do have the Atto3 and Dolphin there.
Added: I suggest parking near the Automall (shared) service station and taking the escalator down from there to land inside the shared showroom

I've bought the seal in black and am yet to see it in the metal, so this vid is exactly what i was looking for👌 very pleased with the quality and value for the price point.

BYD Seal Delivery this September I hope.
Thanks for the video! I like how BYD is coming in strong in South America and Australia. It is good competition. I am in Spain and BYD Seal will have a harder time here. It is a little bit more expensive than when purchasing in Australia. There are two versions and the more expensive, which I ordered is the same price as new Highland AWD. I am standing between these two but I feel I want to give this BYD Seal a chance - it really seems great if they can just tweak the software a bit more.
I believe BYD Seal is the better choice if it is the first EV for you.
Can't wait to place my order early next year! I was going to get the Black finish, but as someone who also lives in QLD, that's probably not the smart thing to do haha. Probably will go for the Atlantis Grey I think. Will test drive it once they are more readily available! Thanks for the video!

I would have to agree, in person, it looks better than the pictures and videos online. Especially in Black. It's a great looking car.

I have a Chinese built current model 3, best car I have owned, and that includes Mercedes and BMW cars. Have now placed an order for a Highland model 3 and the Seal, both sight unseen. Hopefully test cars for both will be available at the same time, so I can then decide which purchase to go through with. I believe the Tesla has better and more mature software and support systems, but I am not afraid to try something new.

I'm curious on two things, is the Shark Grey paint more like a silver finish or is a matte finish? I'm trying to find a video online to properly represent the colour.
Also is the Ocean Blue interior more closely aligned with white or is it more noticable as a blue coloured interior?
The car I have ordered is the BYD Seal Premium here in Thailand and it has Black interior with White stitching and it looks very classy. I sat in the Seal at the BKK motor-show that had the Blue interior and did look like it was showing the dirt. Not sure why you would want to pay extra for the blue interior.

Hi Tim, Yes, I've heard other people ask about that too. As far as I can tell, it will most likely still feel fine. The only thing i've ever noticed in a BYD that isn't great on the inside, is the Blue interior of the Atto 3. But that's just me, and a lot of people don't mind it at all. So I suspect the entry level will feel as nice as you would hope. That's what i'm thinking :)
actually a nice video, cheers, BYD seal are not common here where I Iive in Australia, has helped me make my mind up whether to order one or not, thanks, seems the further you go into RW areas the less there are of EV's
Just checked our 2016 Polo and 2014 Golf. Doesn't look like clearcoat is used under those bonnets either, although the white paint is more of a satin sheen rather than matt like the Seal looks like. Don't think it's an issue with the Seal. If it is then it's really minor. Perhaps they should just have used a satin sheen or semi-gloss on the underside?
BYD is producing half of the iPads’ screens.
Have they fixed the window fogging issue?
Quality of materials and build far better than VW group cars...Tesla don't even qualify.
The center console around the drive selector is no longer shiny plastic but a satin look which is way way better.
It is matte in the black interior but glossy in blue/grey
most modern cars (maybe with the exception of tesla) would look great to naked eyes. a casual inspection won't find many issues. take tools with you next time you go check on a car, especially a tool to check on the paint thickness and eveness.

Just come back from a tour of the Sydney Opera House - with thousands of others - marking it's 50th anniversary and read your review. I agree that the fit & finish are excellent as are the design touches you pointed out. The base model is well-priced and it will sell like hot cakes. P.S. Loved your mentioning the petrol cap...! I wouldn't fill it up unless you want to flood the blade batteries and forcibly ignite them to disprove BYD's safety claims.....!

I really hope that BYD allows customers the option of keeping the original "seal script" or archaic chinese characters on the vehicles like those sold in China......now that would be so cool:)
Sadly it seems to be a China market thing. Also BYD changed the name to Atto 3 for the Aussie market. But even in other international markets like Mexico, where BYD is sticking with the Yuan Plus name, they appear to have replaced the front badge with a generic BYD badge. I guess BYD wants to build their overall brand presence since they are new in all these international markets.
“唐 宋 元 汉”I think it would be possible to give away some car stickers like these for free to make it easy for customers to replace them themselves.

Thanks for the great look around the car. It's very impressive for the price especially. I think it will steal away Dolphin customers. The one gripe I have with BYD though, unlike the rest of the cacky handed sourced cars available, BYD actually managed to put a right hand drive steering column in so top marks for that, but the steering wheel is still cacky handed, ie: the entertainment controls should be under the left hand and the cruise control should be under the right hand. A small gripe I know, but imagine if Japan or Korea sold cars to europe or the US with back to front controls on the steering stack they would be up in arms about it. The cheap arse Europeans have had such an impact in England with the deluge of cacky handed continental sourced vehicles that even the right handed vehicles from Japan etc have to have cacky handed steering columns. EV's have copped a lot of flack lately with battery fires, so hopefully, the LFP batteries are going to destroy that fear.
Something I'm interested in is how the sunroof works on the Australian models. even 50% sunlight here would be torture in a car without automatic shade
Hi Tony, I did actually have a chat with a bloke about that very thing whilst I was in the Seal the other day. The roof is a large glass panel on the one that I was in. Here in Brisbane, I can't imagine how hot that would get. But you can buy covers to fit on the inside for these things which may be a good idea. If not just for the extra sun protection too. I would imagine at some point one will be sold for the Seal because the glass roof is quite large.

@@TheChargeShow My sales girl here in Thailand said that it was included but have to wait and see. TiY did a video on the Seal in China 9 months ago showing the BYD branded cover included and how to fit it. The glass roof looks green from the inside due to a metallic coating. I didn’t notice it being particularly hot on my test drive here in Thailand, but I did have the seat cooling set to level 2. By the end of the test drive I wanted to turn it down to level 1 but it was buried in the screen menus and I didn’t want to risk a crash.
I asked when I went to the opening of the showroom. It comes with a shade - which clips into place. Suspect it will be a pain to install and remove because it's such a large expanse of glass you'll have to move from the front seats to the back seats to put it in or take it out.

@@TheChargeShow yeah an ex ford spray painter found it straight away after I showed him my car but he said overall it's a good car but this lets it down in my opinion

I have a diesel powered Sportage suv, only because my wife and I can get in and out of it with ease! I am wondering how we would manage getting in and out of the Seal which is several cms lower in height, we are in our mid-seventies and have the usual aches and pains. Any seniors out there can advise me on this?

We went to BYD Fortitude Valley this morning, unfortunately my wife could not manage ingress and egress very well. She did try different heights of the seat but to no avail. What a lovely car though!

The 0-100 time badge is really tasteless IMO. Good proposition at this price the Seal, style opinions aside the Model 3 highland just presents as an EV a couple of generations in front to me though. Just too compelling in comparison.
