Great advice. In my from my time in the infantry I always told people to get as fit as possible. And to learn how to do their own admin jobs. such as cleaning your room etc and clothes/ equipment. Get these things sorted and it helps, especially in the field. Great video, thank you.
@@bwkid1 no problems thanks for watching. I completely agree with your comment as well and thanks for sharing your experience. There is a lot of things that make up service in the Infantry.
Excellent and accurate insight and many congratulations on your promotion! Don't be too hard on your Sandhurst cadets!
Great content thx!
No problems and thanks for taking the time to watch.
Hail and salutations from beautiful Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Excellent advice mate and best of luck at Sandhurst. Looks like you are on the path towards WO1 RSM.
Excellent evaluation 👍 nice one.
Hope you’re there throughout 2025! After watching your videos and learning so much from them, to learn the skills in depth in person would be brilliant!
@@ollieclowes1900 I’ll be there. Officially start in Sept with junior term. I finish Aug 2026
Congratulations mate delighted for you .
Thank you kindly mate 💪
I remember our young officers hated the idea going on their Platoon Commanders battle course in Brecon during the winter.
Do what it is you want to do - simple but great advice, I got derailed and regret it
Some say that each generation fight wars in another way to previous generations, much because the methods of war change.
Your experience is what will mould the next generation through instructing the next crop of officer leadership at Sandhurst. One of the most important jobs there is.
Having watched some of your videos I think they are in good hands. All the best in that endeavour.
Congrats Colour!
Cheers mate appreciated
Very informative video about the life and breakdown of an infantry platoon. I'm ex Scots guards and I think it's pretty accurate assessment about what to expect in battalion and how it's run at section and platoon level. I found it was the junior nco, s that actually ran the army not the officers, they were only a figurehead of authority and admin. Having a good platoon sergeant was a bonus because I found a lot of them turned jack once they got psbc under their belts. Congratulations on your promotion and posting to Sandhurst by the way. 😊
Love these mate!! 🤙🏼 your doing the infantry and the irish regiments credit 🙏🏼 give you an MBE already ffs 😂 Q.S ☘️
I am the next royal Irish Ranger served in Belize 1882 and Falklands 83 and northern Ireland
@@alanedgar5146 that’s good going that! 💪🇬🇧

Good morning Alan...

Could you do a video on the process of re-joining the army, iv been out 2 years and wanting to re-join and wonder how quick the process is and what training if any I would need to do
God i loved being a section cmdr but finishing as a manouver support sjt was cool
How is the new ex22 general is he getting the army back in shape
?
troopy's after sandhurst if infantry? or all cap badges? do senior Brecon its the same course ? is it not ?
Your a full corporal whilst on the course as it’s the thing you need to sit the promotion board. Once promoted you move into a Platoon Sargent pid (job)
@@Rangermedia thats not the question fail Color ;).
added a bit more detail to Q.

How did you get on at US ranger school?
@@JB-td9fz we didn’t go in the end. Funding was cut and we didn’t get across unfortunately!
That sounds familiar🤔🤔
@@Rangermedia cheers pal.
no one likes the bullpup SA80, bullpup is BS
@@theobvious1958 you've never used it.
Knowing what you know is coming, would you personally join the army these days?
Yes. I genuinely am proud of the Army and this country. Politics and governments are what they are. It’s the people of the country I respect and would fight far. I’m 35 so whatever is around the corner will still affect me and I have zero interest in leaving the Army. 🇬🇧
@@Rangermedia I have massive respect for the armed forces and the men that put their lives on the line to fight for those who cannot defend themselves. But if I may ask the same question but differently: having spent your career involved in counter insurgency type warfare and knowing that future urban warfare is going to be 'quite different', are you relieved or gutted that your new role keeps you at home, and would you consider re-deploying? I ask because I want a soldier's perspective on how keen they would be to get out there. Considering the massive difference in warfare compared to fighting counter insurgencies in Afghanistan. Basically this would affect my decision; if senior and experienced soldiers don't particularly want to get involved in what's coming then, I don't want to either! :)
so what does a CSGT do on the battlefield?
In an Infantry Battalion it’s mainly the CQMS. Company quarter master. Bullets & Beans! Resource the fighting element. So basically what the Platoon Sargent does for the Platoon but your doing it for the whole company.
@@Rangermedia is that same with ssgt in 22 as Team Leader? I always thought it was messed up that 22 are not csgt's. I always thought the green wings and badges you have on 2's look the alyst color combo - ps can you wear sniper badge on pt jacket? ps what do you think about age and tactical fitness im ex reg thinking reserve if medical good
Sit in the stores drinking tea
@stuc3195 lol question why is a 22 ssgt not csgt ?
@forwardprogressonly staff sergeants and colour sergeants is the same rank . It just depends on the unit. Infantry regiments and Royal Marines use csgt., non infantry units use ssgt.
Well done lad...... I joined in 88 as a jsldr in the Infantary.,Hard days but enjoyable..Reenlisted into the Sigs, then transferd to AAC... But was only a cpl...
But as every old swet will tell ya.....Our days were harder !!!
Hahahahhahahaha
He shaved with a bedsheet yesterday morning 😂
New regs in order mate we’re allowed beards now
troopy after sand hurst they do the senior Brecon.
Does the british army still get into combat or has that completely stopped ?
@@JamesCooke-jg8qk they are still deployed on operations, which at anytime could change but when you describe “combat” in my mind that is all out war fighting and no we aren’t. Like mentioned in the video, the world isn’t heading to all out world peace anytime soon.
@@Rangermedia thanks
No problems
So you can grow a beard now like you my god
Yes beards are now aloud. I’m going until August to see how I get on
@@Rangermedia I can't imagine seeing whole platoon with beard s ,is this to for the Ranger
@@Rangermedia*Allowed not Aloud…..
Double Off to the Education Wing 🤣😁
Take Care Colour.
I’m Ex Infantry, 1RWF.
@@alanedgar5146 anyone in the Army. Two weeks to get to grade 1. Also can’t be past the Adam’s Apple and maintained/groomed.
It’s a big change so there are people against it, all entitled to their opinions. However it is in policy.
I’m all for it, facial hair doesn’t affect your ability to soldier. Standards remain high especially when the soldier remains motivated to stay fit physically, mentally and is all over the knowledge of their specific role in the Army.
Do a few years hope for a deployment and get the hell out. Serious here lads bail and join a contractor that’s where the moneys at and the work.
Next it be the Taliban join making way for unveted security checks
Crap hat
Oh and congratulations on your promotion. Well deserved. Don’t think you will be offered a later commission?
@@Abefroman-lq3md thanks! It’s not an option just yet but something I will be aiming to peruse once the time comes.
Would you say Junior and Senior Breacon is comparable to USA Army Ranger school (a leadership school) if not tougher?
I haven’t physically been on Ranger school so can’t comment from experience but from looking at it yes. It’s a leadership course but with a lot more funding, which allows the course to be more resourced. Different training areas, more air (helis) etc for some of the scenarios.
IBS Brecon is definitely a tough school and all courses ran out of there do the job they are designed for. Going to be biased and say they are tougher! 😎
@@Rangermedia . As a retired RUC officer or who worked with US military I would back this up. I was very disappointed with US Army leadership and their ability
To function and lead at NCO and junior officer level.
question what yall do with captured enemy weapons?
@@theobvious1958 as infantry they get extracted back as evidence with RMP if required or in all out war just make them safe and leave them.
@@Abefroman-lq3mdI tend to agree with you there, their Sgts is roughly to our LCpls in quality, qualification and experience. I think the Americans tend to promotion as time served to the rank of Cpl, were we have to earn it and do the necessary leadership qualifications.
