    Hey Ken thanks mate, now it all makes sense. I've managed to get the right valve lifter and after watching this have been succesful in refitting the keepers. Great job Ken, this will be useful to a lot of guys. Cheers, Phil.

      Snobby I’m still trying to get the UK lingo right so I’m not so oblivious when in your live streams! It is fun end educational though.

    Thank You Mr. Mow It All!
    Kohler K181 Leaf Blower old, '70s? probably '80s. Not sure if it will run yet but valves were tight so I removed them, lapped them, put them vertical in the vice with paper towel to protect the stem and carefully hand sanded the tip with 220 grit until I got them into specs, then tried to re-assemble and freaked out. The compressor tool popped, the keepers took flight but I did find them. I wondered how am I going to get my fingers in there and then what if the spring pops and thwacks the finger?
    So took a break, watched your vid, took a nap... at midnight with a headlamp went into the garage and realized grease and a small screwdriver is my friend. First I took a valve out and put the keepers on it outside the engine to visually know where they go then I greased the inside of the keepers and the outside of one so it would "glue" to the screwdriver and after compressing the spring carefully put it in there and carefully fingered it to make sure is was in the groove, then did the same thing to the other keeper all the time holding the compressor cuz it can sproing. Then I did the intake valve.
    Some say this is the worse part of rebuilding one of these engines, I don't know, I haven't gotten that far yet but watch this vid, take a breath and be surgical, it's not as bad as it seems at first. Again, Thanks for the vid! Hopefully I'll get this beasty leaf blower running soon!

    Just had a thought Ken, seem to remember reading the springs have a right and wrong way to fit, one end has closer springs which should go at the valve end, do you think it's that important?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  Před 4 lety +1

      You’re correct Phil, Kohler states the end of the spring with the coils closer together should be put on the top, closer to the valve head. This will give a better spring rate to the assembly. Good question!

      Okay. This is my first engine rebuild and my first Kohler K. It’s out of my IH Cub 70. Have you ever repainted an engine? If so, what type of paint did you use on the engine block?@@KensSmallEngineRepair
