Water Rushes Down Australia's Moonan Brook River During Drought Conditions

- Moonan Brook, a tributary to the Hunter River, has been dry for weeks. But that all changed suddenly this week, when heavy rainfall sent water surging down its channel.
Some locals lined the banks of the brook to catch the surge of floodwater, known locally as a “gully scraper”. Among them was Fiona Coddington, whose video captures the anticipation, and then the raging water carrying debris along with it.
The Newcastle Herald said the creek had been dry for six weeks before some 150 mm of rain in Barrington Tops restored water.
Referencing the chronic drought being experienced locally, Coddington told the Herald: “It has been horrid. It is still dry, except for the brook, which is a better than nothing.”

@Marco Polo it's crazy how this could of been a fully filled river leading down to a creek if they put a trickling dam in place, which means the land before the dam will have water stored and soak in the ground and beyond the dam will always have a consistent cycle of water feeding the creek. All the government needs to do is build small dams and plant shrubs with big route systems so trap water in the ground

@@76byoung you need understand restoration of ground and water levels it may seem stupid to any normal person but this has been done many many time by one man in Australia and has worked with outstanding results from dry deserts to lush greens desert plants and flowing creeks. People and the government don't see as a options because it takes work money and will claim land back to nature and let animals thrive again, all they want is money and land but unfortunately for Australia and alot of other places it wont be long till it'll be completely uninhabitable for anything living, unless we start letting nature's rivers run free again and stop diverting them we can't save these dry country's.
Also the dam traps flood water to last alot longer and slowly releases it in the ground around the fill up and the moving creek which lets the ground soak up water and thrive again.
What a coincidence, it is a golden opurtunity to see it . Thank you for sharing, hope all Australia will be raining and bad occasion will wash away.

Whilst I too pray for rain, I always say *if it be thy will* . Remember that he made many trees in Australia that need fire to have their seed pods open. When it was just aboriginals here they would simply up camp and move away from bush fires- they didn't fight the fire with pumps and fire engines so in years of drought it may well have been that the fires just kept going for years.

Yes I have have seen that before .. uncommon but it happens. Note.. in the town of Alice springs they have an annual river race.. one year they had to cancel it because there was actually water in the river!! It would help if there was a bit of an explanation. I am Australian and don't even know where that River is. Is it in the Channel Country. Is this the arrival of water from Rainfall far to the North? The Condamine, Murray, Darling System. A Release of water from a Dam?
If possible, please keep updating rain news. 🙏
