- Tangerine Reef is a full-length audiovisual album by Animal Collective (Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist) in collaboration with Coral Morphologic, to commemorate the 2018 International Year of the Reef, out now on Domino. Tangerine Reef is a visual tone poem consisting of time-lapse and slow pans across surreal aquascapes of naturally fluorescent coral and cameos by alien-like reef creatures (note: no CGI or artificial enhancement was used in this film). back to their electroacoustic days, I'm totally in
I had a really intense psychedelic experience listening to this album. It was half a year ago. Since then, i think about this album everyday. I don't listen to it too often, i prefer to keep to times of emergency, times where i need spiritual guidance (like now). For all the people who didn't enjoy this album, i hope time give you a chance to listen to it with another perspective. After my experience, i personally consider this their magnum opus. The work they where born to create since the beggining. I mean, really, if you listen all the way through, that ending man... I will never forget how it made me feel, never. And listening while looking those visuals, those images, is something that, after a while, start to mirror your own consciousness, and i think that's the point. It's like looking into another universe, you don't recognize all those animals, all those creatures, it is scary at times, but when you lose fear, you see yourself in it. Truly see yourself.
I’m giving you big big ol’ hug rn friend
Hey buddy, if you'd be willing to send me some good vibes I'll need it for something coming up tomorrow. I'm very glad you had a great experience and i hope you'll have a continued wonderful life.
I guess, i just hope that your good vibes could help keep me safe thru tomorrow u seem like a Spirituality in tune guy... I know how woo woo i sound rn tho, idk I'm pretty tired gonna go to sleep now. Love to you man
@@no_special_person Of course dude! Your reply really warms my heart. I still think about this album every day of my life, and i'm thankful it created a channel were we can talk about stuff like this. I don't know what you're doing tomorrow, but i wish you're safe all the way, everything is gonna be alright. Just remember to keep your mind open and try not to let the past define your perspective through this experience. I wish you have a wonderful life as well and thanks again for replying! i'm here if you need anything
@@4tado you must've never tried drugs
sounds like an amazing expirience man
Without hyperbole, this is some of the most beautiful images syncing up with music I've seen.
Only Animal Collective could make me want to watch slow pans of coral for an hour, this is awesome!
I've been looking at their videos a lot more recently. They worked with some amazing directors.
animal corallective
I hate you so much for that pun I love you
"Corals were the first timekeepers of Planet Earth. For more than half a billion years, their internal clocks have been synchronized with the sun and the moon. However, it would take life several hundred million years of further evolution before finally crawling out of from beneath the liquid lens of the ocean and into the open air where it would develop the consciousness necessary to ask the question, then the intelligence needed to invent the technology to empirically measure its objective reality. Thus, the purpose of life is to quantify the nature of the cosmos itself. The development of symbiosis between coral and humankind appears as a harbinger for the final stages of life on earth. Our ouroboros is nearly complete."
"I pray deep like Buddha...
... But I don't understand him.
More water in my coffee...
... Than there is on dry land."
(all on Avey Tare's album Eucalyptus, and I won't say the song because the album is a whole piece and no song should be skipped)
Just when I thought Animal Collective couldn't get any more dignified and explosively creative, they make a masterpiece like this.
I love you guys. Since 2008 baby.
Keep doing your incredible work.
tyler4tado. Critics are usually snobby literary pieces of shit who have have none of the gifts they critique. Their most critically acclaimed album was their most mainstream. Go figure.
czcams.com/video/Zz2FJxnF3sI/video.html here's some shameless self-promotion...
This is glorious. I need to recycle more.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, in order of priority. Stop buying bottled water for example would be a more effective gesture.
Lol
even better, don't consume
Reduce, reuse, Relova
@@goxdie000 Breatharian vibe.
I feel like if this was played while walking around at night, I'd constantly feel like I was being followed
There is no band capable of such variety. You can sing AC under the shower, you can play them to meditate, you can play them to disturb your soul or to fill your heart. I'm waiting for the day they'll start doing something else (art related), not just music. I'm positive they can be amazing in many other fields - from video-making to literature and perf. arts.
Anyways what they did for music is inexplicable. They are way ahead.
I bet they'll do some VR at some point.
AC did?
never seen oddsac then?
Ever heard of a band called Radiohead?
@@brendanfosh7775 Radiohead is amazing but they don't take the experimental risks that AC do. They don't have as broad of a variety of emotions that they express either
This needs a virtual reality version

Acid ;)
No, it really doesn't.
D….m…..t
I listened to this while tripping and was swept away by ocean currents around the room. Good stuff.
Absolutely mindblowing job and bravo to both AnCo and Coral Morphologic for delivering this gorgeous and humbling work of art. I _highly_ recommend watching the documentary on Coral Morphologic that's on their website.
THE TIME IS NOW NOW IS THE TIME
Jake&Me is just breathtakingly deep and meditative.
Yes yes yes! I love they're moving away from the hectic, busy, funny burrito pop stuff and started exploring their depth again. Very exciting
pheebles yes! tbh, Painting With is their only album that I can’t really find merit in. It just sounds flat out tacky and bad to me. I like this sort or return to The old days
funny burrito should be the official genre of Painting With on Wikipedia
Nolan Ward took me. While but I think starting with bagels in Kiev and putting the album on repeat from there worked for me. Oh and skip Floridada
pheebles I can't get down with painting with yet. Don't like the sound. I agree with this and share your excitement 2000% how often does a band revert to a better sound vs sells out to the corporate media sluts.. ten years straight this has been my go to band. Still jam it to and from work and haven't let up once. This group defines large parts of my life.
Just because you can't see the beauty is stuff like painting with doesn't mean it's any less of a masterpiece. You should listen to it on acid
*_MY, THIS IS A DECADENT AUDIOVISUAL FEAST._*
[i'm in love i'm in love i'm in love]
good lord....this is beyond gorgeous.
i'm pretty serious into painting and art in general....and watching this makes me feel utterly irrelevant lol. nothing i could create could possibly compete with the sheer beauty of nature....especially ocean life. it's just fascinating to watch....almost doesn't seem real.
You are nature. And integral piece of the puzzle.
You're alright in my book ;)
Not about comparing my friend! Use it S inspiration. I'm sure you're capable of wonderful things
Investigate 311 ©️
Can you say Fractal Symmetry, neighbor? It's everything, not just ocean life. Now, if you can only crack the time thing, you'll be all set.
I need to be in a waaaay better state of mind to enjoy and be grateful for this. Absolutely stunning and beautiful
Coral Morphologic is such an awesome group, I'm so glad Animal Collective has collaborated more than just once. I wish I could have seen Coral Orgy, but this does the trick. Ocean imagery of any kind is immensely comforting to me, and it's perfect coupled with this kind of stuff. I can't wait to absorb it as an album next
"Coral Realization" and "Airpipe (to a New Transition)" are (subtle) head-exploders... Love 'em.
while the reception may be mixed right now, in five years people are gonna look back on this as a masterpiece
Nah probably not, but it's really tight tho !
I mean ODDSAC, Spirit, Danse, Here come, Sung Tungs, Feels, Strawbery Jam, People, Water Curses, Fall be kind and Merryweather are way more interesting musicaly than this BUUT as I said it's really good and it's more a scoring thing, it works very well, it's haunting and flows perfectly with the movie. Not everything HAS to be or can be a materspiece. I honestly think they have a more than honest share of those in their discography.
It 's like comparing Downward Spiral and the score from the Millenium movie ( Nine inch nails/Trent reznor comparaison thing)
Facts
let's see what you'll think in 5 years lol
you're so right cause that's happening with CHz now
These tones are ohhh sooo dreamy, reminiscent of older Anco. I absolutely love it, even though it's a little disappointing not to hear Noah's dreamy voice too.
I can't believe this is Animal Collective, listened to this stoned to the bone last night and thought I was in heaven. This melted my ears.
That cucumaria stuffing its gob made me feel both highly pleasured and highly uneasy.
i need to be so high right now.
Well, just watch and listen.
Play this in a smoky hall with a projector and you'll get some amazing light patterns.
I have heard lots of lukewarm reviews and ambivalence towards this album but I love it. I think they achieved something great with Tangerine Reef. It is one of the coolest and trippiest ambient albums I've ever heard. It's an underwater adventure and I'm very into it! AnCo forever!!
This album separates critics with taste and those without.
if you know , you know , if you don't , you don't
thank you fr being an important part of my life and being the soundtrack to a lot of great memories. love yall
Time to get some 🍄 and make an event of this!
:-)))))))
Here we go
One beautiful and cohesive album, thanks you Animal Collective guys

Your worst nightmare true :/
Really incredible stuff. Happy you guys chose to include the info about the corals at the end, I was a little worried I wouldn't get to find out what some of this stuff is
Jake and Me is indescribably beautiful. That is the sound of some divine unity of melancholy and bliss.
NOW THESE ARE THE VIBES I CRAVE
Beautifully done AC, Can’t wait to get my order in.
Praise AnCo for decades past and decades to come. Hearts hearts
Glad I stumbled upon this! I can’t stop watching it. The whole thing was just beautiful.
this sounds super duper live- like the sound isn't messed with, almost sounds like it was recorded at a show? which sort of makes it way more impressive, no studio tricks.
luke mcqueeney it's just live in their space with no overdubs at all.
this is absolutely wonderful and a blessing thank you animal collective
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen/heard. Can’t wait till my next psychedelic journey 👍
Saw this live last night at the Vista. So good!
You guys should check out other work by Coral Morphologic they're doing some amazing stuff!
mesmerizing! amazingly beautiful! i'll watch this over and over!!!
It's like being at the bottom of the ocean, I'm my true form, a mermaid, and animal collective is there. I have no problems and a handsome merman husband that loves me. We all love happily ever after.
@Ano Nymous 😂😂

Animal Coraltive
Corals are actually animals, so this Coral Collective is part of the Animal Collective. interestingly so ; )
Can't wait to listen to and watch this after work.
This truly is a triumph of human expression.

how have you acquired such a font? I too want to be a 𝖍𝖎𝖕 𝖘𝖕𝖔𝖓𝖌𝖊
just search "text generator"
I had the pleasure of seeing the boys perform this in a couple of years ago. seeing Avey sing Hip Sponge while playing a little totem percussive thing was damn near a religious experience!
So beautiful.. Like I'm in a very colorful trance.
Amazing imagery! Stunningly beautiful. A true trip-and-a-half à la later 1960s.
There are genuinely people who don’t like this?
The world really wasn’t ready for this huh? Absolutely stunning. Production and creativity off the charts, with amazing visuals to boot.
yeah i don't understand either. To me it is a masterpiece. Totally egoless music. Spiritual music. And those visuals man, fuck. Don't know what to say. I had a spiritual experience watching this.
what an amazing way to experience nature, is thanks for taking me to tangerine reef
it looks like they're dancing to the music :D
Just beautiful.
I cant find words to describe how beautiful this is :´(
Okay.. this is epic

Absolutely awesome
Truly so phenomenal.
it's so beautiful and it's real!! earth is truly a wonder
Thank you!
Beautiful.
Seeing the live performance to the film later tonight (Dec 8) @ Balboa Theater in SF. After that, Animal Collective DJ set after-party at a venue around the block from my crib.

Just amazing
Enchanting
You did great!

(it sounds like something made by bjork x arca)
And it looks incredible
Honestly I'm lowkey on the coral's side after seeing this.
insanely great
Omg omg omg omg. Such art.
this is dope
I think I prefer the visuals over the music, but all the same, it's definitely worth watching.
This calls for a tab or two of LSD
Listen to this in such a hard time i hope it makes me feel get better #rip
I believe in you. Prayers for you that you get through it soon
adult swim bumpers: the album
