Footage from Animal Collective's July 18, 2009 performance at Melt! Festival in Germany where I provided live visuals. Recorded by a local camera crew I have since forgotten the name of, credit to them for editing and the footage. Contact me if anyone knows! - Hudba
They're just one of those bands you sit back and let happen.
I like how there’s four tables on the stage, even though only 3 members are in this performance. They left a space open for Deakin.
that crew member getting crane shots of Geo's setup is doing god's work
10 years later... still fresh
An amazing performance by an amazing band
Every weekend when I get drunk on my own I play this entire set on a flatscreen, I dont know what it means.
It means it’s some good shit
It means you seem chill as fuc
It means you may be an alcoholic
@@chefbutterrrr Dont you worry bout my resposibilites, AnCo doesnt affect my life. It just improves its quality
It means you’re depressed and have really good taste.
I love this group's music with all my heart.
Panda Bear has such a strong stage presence in this performance.
greed -- glad to hear him sing the parts he wrote
and pandas beautiful voice is so haunting.
his pitch is really good in that performance
@@sumarioish He really is a pitch person, a person of pitch

7:25 - Summertime Clothes
13:26 - What Would I Want? Sky
21:00 - Guy's Eyes
31:00 - Fireworks (Though it doesn't truly take off until around 35:00, but HOLY HOT DAMN when it does!)
49:00 - My Girls
56:04 - Brother Sport (Probably the best live version I've ever seen for this song as well.)
Wow, I don't think I'll ever stop adoring this band, even despite their recent slight decline in quality, arguably at least. Classic fucking show!
and one of the best versions of Guys Eyes!
also, they play a short song before fireworks called Lablakely Dress, but I have never heard them play whatever little song they did in the middle of fireworks; crazy version!
decline in quality my ass. get real. lol
I think the Lablakey Dress part 31:00 to 35:00 is the best part of the show.
I disagree very much about them declining in quality, but thanks for the time stamps haha
boy i wish i could go see something even remotely like this right about now
Me too good fuck
Same feeling
this doesn't exist anymore even if coronavirus wasn't around. There are no "bands" who focus first and foremost on how their music is played live and develop it from that. Animal Collective would play songs 3-4 years in advance before they would even be heard on a studio album. A band like Animal Collective getting on the Top Billboard charts is a fat 0% chance now.
Soon
@@bebopcola4643 first off, that is entirely untrue, plenty of bands do exactly the same thing as far as constantly evolving their sound and trying new things live before ever recording them. Secondly, why does the billboard thing matter? One does not need to be a pop star to play respectably large shows

Wow, they only played 7 songs? I know they can have long intros/transitions between songs but damn! One hour...
I'm giving you a hug through the internet right now. 5 years later.
Best version of Fireworks i have ever heard holy shit!
AC live is an incredible experience.
I hope to one day experience that. I got to see MGMT twice and even met and chatted with Andrew and James, so other than meeting Ben and perhaps the other members, the bands I want to experience live and hopefully meet are Animal Collective, Shpongle (though it's sad they won't be performing as a full band anymore, but at least there's Simon Posford), and Tame Impala. Let's hope we all get to meet our heroes, one way or another.
Wow... As much as I'm loving the new output, this might very well have been their peak.
their peak imo was 06-07, the live shows from that era are brain melting
@@didyouseetheword5 The one at starlight ballroom is awesome!
I feel like there's gonna be something huge from the group within the next couple of years.
GraditudevsRevenge Me too, just after seeing the acoustic performance of Sung Tongs let’s me know that they are gonna do something crazy next
@@Jack-ke5qt well it's hopeful as the whole group is touring together once again
Brothersport is the most beautiful song of all time swear
That's honestly the best Live show I've seen on youtube
One of the best for sure!!!
i dont realy have much love in my life right now but i certainly appreciate that i can connect to music like this to make up for it. thanks
Love you
I saw them at Merriwether Post Pavilion around this time and they put on an amazing show. Every time I see them live they kill it. Great band, I'm so thankful to have these guys around making original and interesting music.
I've always wanted to see Animal Collective. Must be an incredible experience.
the fireworks to my girls transition always gives me chills
killer what would i want sky. first legally licensed grateful dead sample ever
What?

Voices
Panda Bear in a 2023 Tone Glow interview:
"Do you feel like there are things you’ve learned in the process of challenging yourself with the way you sing?
I feel like there’s been eras of how I’ve tried to sing, or wanted to sing. It’s probably a reflection of where I’m at mentally. I would sing in a kind of wispy, feathery way for a while, and I remember getting really into Scott Walker because his voice came from the stomach. It was way more projected, and very masculine in a way that I liked a lot. I didn’t want to copy him but the spirit of his singing inspired me to go for my own version of that. I think I got more into a croony thing afterwards and I suppose I’m still in that zone.
When would you say that change happened?
Probably with Tomboy (2011). So around 2009 or so."
I feel like his vocal performance during this show really shows this shift in a very excellent way.
They came to my country 10 years ago and I couldn't see them. I though I never would see them live, but they're coming in september! I am extremely happy because of this, guys. AC is one of my three favourite bands and I will finaly see them!!!!
Teatro Teletón?
@@vicentelopez1546 sí wn :) buena
: It's not every day you hear Panda completely lose his shit live - but every once in a while, you'll get 1:00:00. God dammit, I love this guy.
It made me want to hug my brother
I wish he had taken it further lol
this show was the day after his birthday!
channeling avey
2009 was their best touring year
I saw them twice during the Centipede HZ tour.. with Noah on drums and Deakin on guitar. Dave was on keyboard/guitar/vocals. Those shows had so much energy.. still get goosebumps when I think back about it.
@@Joey29455 I can't even imagine how amazing Today's Supernatural and Monkey Riches were live
I really enjoyed their Amsterdam set, a couple months before this Germany set. and they still kick lass, I love how they change the sounds of their songs they give their songs different layers and sometimes offer more substance or less when playing live. and the aveys screaming is my favorite part.
Who knew that avey tare saying "danke schon" could make me so happy
Love the visuals on this one
i need to see a performance this ridiculous while i’m alive. it’s gotta be a band in it’s prime with a completely insane vision like this.
Thank you "What Would I Want? Sky was fantastic
Garr D I love Avey doing Panda’s part. :)
Their best show omg
nothing beats the Malta Festival 2006
this is the performance that made me love fireworks so much
that intro of what would i want sky is the trippiest shit
I was there that night with no idea what I was going to see and it changed my life, forever!
arguably their best performance ever. amazing
Visuals are crazy
the most beautiful thing in the world
Thanks for uploading 2009 was their best year and a great year for music
fireworks 😭😭
also COME THROUGH PANDA
I love this performance with my soul
Was thinking back on this performance and thought I would look it up. I still remember My Girls and Brother Sport with the swings visual so well.
If I ever got to see them play this set list...
The best they've ever been
damn those visuals thiiiick. wish i had seen this
What would i want? Sky make me crie everytime, the same SAFER
I’ll have to listen to the whole thing but that Fireworks is exceptional.
This was the exact day and year i was born

holy shit guys eyes into lablakley dress is fucking insane my god
Ooo fall be kind on the third song. Cool set
10 Jahre 🤔
Und immer noch future
God this 20 min version of Fireworks is insanely good Jesus Christ.
I think I'm enjoying this set alot more then the Amsterdam one.
watching this set has become a ritual
come to indonesia, please.... :(
yoooooo tear it up panda!!!!!
interestingly I feel Geo and Panda's energy surpasses avey's in this performance
Seemed sick or something imo, voice was definitely off during wwiws.
Best version of Guy's Eyes...it's just perfection
Geez, that summertime clothes really fell apart quick.
Fav moment/shot 18:10; Geo getting smoked out!
xD
Kinda curious why Avey was the one singing Panda's bits on What Would I Want Sky. I wonder if they hadn't delegated those vocals yet or if it was just hard for Panda to perform them live
Does anyone know what's the song avey starts signing in about 40:00?
I guess he was just jamming along, since he changed lyrics every live set( Amsterdam live set he sang "I was wrong") ... I love this band and I'm so happy I know them
That Fantasia intro though
im gonna make up today pumpkin
why would you put ads?
damn would love to have seen them tour this album. dont really like any of theur stuff since MPP, but damn brothersport my girls and fireworks all live in one night???? holy shit take my money

what song is it around 40:15?

I hope animal collective replaces Phish and other jam bands
I am a huge fan of both Phish and Animal Collective. Don't see why you would want one to replace the other...
@@sweatfootm not that I don't like phish, i just find them and all other jam bands to be kinda boring (phish is probably the most interesting of them all). my point was mainly I hope the more cycling, experimental and colorful jams of groups like animal collective become the norm for jam music
Noah and the band all have said their influences include deep dub reggae and the Grateful Dead in some interviews
but sheeeeeeeee but sheeeeeeeeee
Zev Wolf powwww bweeeshhhuhuhuh
Kraftwerk would be proud
Is that James Ransone back there during Guys Eyes?? Or some jabron that looks like him?
Yea it is actually, he is a friend of the dudes and was working as a roadie at the time. Awesome guy! Such an excellent crew on this 1.

Saturating. That's all I got to say, this sound is saturating. (in the best way)
It’s the Man/ maybe a woman, giving a voice to music, eh? Probably a she, or a subtype of a breakfast burrito.
