Let's learn about spin! Spin is a critical component in all of golf. In this tutorial I go over the basic priciples of spin in PGA Tour 2k23 and how you can use it to improve your game!
kil thanks to you I got an ace
That spin does work
@@ilovewendysbaconator5089 love to hear it! Congrats!
@@Kilbride10 thank you
Really helpful, thank you. Picked this up on ps+ the other day n was struggling a tad, not played a golf game since tiger woods on ps3😂
It’s a pretty quality gameplay for a simulation golf game. Graphics/features/game modes are lacking but definitely still fun.
@@Kilbride10 yeah, I've been enjoying it so far
Awesome tips 👍
Just recently got back into this game, but didn't necessarily know how to actually play. This is the besthelp and makes gameplay so much easier
Glad it helps and thanks for the feedback
I liked the older Tiger Woods Golf games
You and I both
I agree/ can you direct the direction of your spin??? Like…. I see you reduce and add the amount… but how the hell do you know which direction ur spinning the darn ball??????
Yeah tiger Woods was great. I loved the fire effect when you smashed a perfect drive
Spinning the ball was well better aswell
@@SL0409 you’re not alone! EA news should be right around the corner. I expect the release date in Q1 2023
@@Kilbride10 nice
Look at Micheal😂💯
I love Killbride
I can’t seem to figure this game out fully.. aside from being super buggy sometimes I’ll hit a perfect drive and the ball will go some where completely unpredictable.. I try to factor in wind and shot shape but still every so often I end up 20 yds outside where I’m aiming.
My best guess is your swing plane is likely off a bit.
Each shot there are two main components of the swing mechanic. Timing and swing plane/path. Timing is where you see the result as fast, slow or perfect. Plane/path being the actual line going down and up in the swing meter. If either one are off then your dispersion will increase.
I’d recommend paying attention to both and perhaps even dialing back the difficulty level to an easier setting to get used to both.
If both are closer to perfect the ball should go exactly where you intended pending the weather and course conditions.
I noticed when you zoom in on the green there sometimes is a blue area showing up . What is it.
Are you perhaps referring the the shot arc? I turned on the visual aids to help show more and their is a blue line trail for the shot arc.
This is a better tutorial than in the game...game doesn't tell you squat
but what does the other strike manipulation do? With the left stick on xbox? Is it just playing the ball higher or lower? So right stick is all about the spin but still supposed to come out at the same trajectory and left stick is hitting it higher or lower trajectory?
Left stick is trajectory and right stick is spin. Changing the trajectory (loft) will naturally change your spin but the right stick is intended to change spin without changing loft.
ok yes so exactly what I said. Pretty interesting take on it. I'm glad they've added that cuz I remember back in the day they only had hitting low or high on the ball which meant only high/backspin or low/topspin.@@Kilbride10
How did you go back to the tee? I don’t see a mulligan option
There isn’t a mulligan option. I declared unplayable just to show different perspectives
@@Kilbride10 ah ok thanks dude!
I watched Arnie overspin one into the range and fight back. In r real life.
RIP, such a legend
Shit stresses me out that I can’t figure out to back pain on 3 click haha 😅
Im saying… I get how you reduce and add spin !! But how the heck do you control the direction of which the ball is spinning?? Like…. If I want back spin??? Ummmmmmm
Direction of spin as I discuss it in this video is mainly backwards or forwards. There is slight variations of back left and right based on the shape/tempo of the swing and the shape of the green. If you and pulling down on the left stick you add loft (helps for more spin), if you pull down on the right stick you add more spin. The more loft and spin a shot has the more backspin it will have.
If you are looking for more side spin then you will have to implement a large amount of shot shaping. This game attempts to be as close to a real life golf sim as it can be and side spin is not a common practice that golfers are trying to acheive.
That's not true. Shaping the ball, fade or draw, IS side spin. Any decent golfer is implementing side spin backspin and sometimes both in RL. Former country club assistant pro/ instructor here
@@jakegaming818 I feel as if most players try to reduce side spin or have at least have a very specific control of it. no?
Bay Hill

I feel like this game is alot harder to play with a Joypad anolog stick.
If you can master mouse and keyboard the swing plane and tempo does seem to be a bit easier for that input. However from my understanding putting is a bit more challenging. I personally play with a ps5 controller on Pc but have tried different inputs on different consoles so have a good understanding of most
How abouth Down Hill shots?
All the same theories apply. Downhill just much harder to generate backspin so you will have less
Why did they get rid of power boost and spin control? :(
2k never had it. 2k and more specifically HB studios was aiming for a realistic golf game. They have added some arcade type modes but still lean heavily towards a simulation gameplay
@@Kilbride10 ah I see, I used to love Tiger Woods 2004 PS2 haha
I'd love those controls on a new game
@@CalderClan ea has something like it with their new game however imo EAs game (far better graphics) as a whole feels very clunky and 2k is the far better gameplay and because of that where I spend most of my time
It shrinks?
Ya know, shrinkage!
I was in the pool!!!!
Significantly
whats a bumper?
L1 or R1 on PlayStation controller. LB or RB on Xbox
@@Kilbride10 i figured it out but thank you for your reply and video.
@@algorerhyth cheers. Hope it helps!
The right meter is actually about lob, the left meter determined spin.
That’s a common misconception. Right meter is spin. Both will help overall spin but the right is specifically spin and left is specifically loft. More loft will generate spin and at times be more impactful
@@Kilbride10 yeah it’s probably common because that’s what the tutorial teaches. Thanks for the reply sir.
Are you playing on novice??
For the demonstrations I play on beginner for easy visuals. The clip at the very beginning is on legend settings
I don’t have the spin option. Wtf this game sucks
Are you holding left bumper?
@@Kilbride10 turns out I bought the pga tour game. I thought I was going crazy 🤣
@@spencerst.dennis1339 classic mixup 😂
Going up doesn't reduce spin, it just adds forward spin...when you deloft the club face the ball carries a forward trajectory which increases forward spin...hey, what do I know, just been golfing since I was 2, played juniors and caddied at one of the top country clubs in NJ for a number of yrs
I didn’t see him touch on side spin. Do you know how to do this ? Is it even possible on this game ?
Been playing for two weeks.this game sucks.its a fart in a elevator.
