Dean, you may want to add an RPM meter. You can find inexpensive units on line that use a magnet an pickup sensor. I put one one my Atlas lathe and find it very usefull.
Dean I would absolutely love to see more in depth information on programing the VFD.s. I have 3 of them and I love them. I also have a Rotary phase converter from American Rotary. I am especially interested in how you did the E-stop. I do not have E-stop on my Fugi Frenic or the Huayang
Hi Gilles, Yeah it's a 2-Hp Allis Chalmers (Taiwan Brand) 3-phase. It's a bit oversized for a 10" lathe but I had it leftover from another project. ATB....
G'day Kit, I tinkered with electronics in school. But my trade was Industrial HVAC we used tons of VFDs of all brands and sizes. HVAC service is about 70% electrical and electronics troubleshooting. Check out this CZcamsr "Jeremy Fielding" very energetic African American engineer / experimenter. ATB...Cheers....
Enjoyed…hmmm, I use the call a friend option ….YOU!!!
A good lifeline to have..
Thanks Chuck...
It was great to see how you wired the VFD, thanks. The new mounting plate looks good
Thanks Joseph !
Nicely done Dean, very elegant solution. Cheers, Jon
Thanks Jon !
Cheers....
That is a very nice lathe Dean.
Thanks Harold !

Those vfd drives are a lot more resilient to being powered on and off as well, there solid units for sure
Setting up a VFD can be source of head scratching moments when you're not used to it. No need to ask how I know :)
Yean and every brand uses there own descriptions and terminology.

Hopefully this means the old SB will remain in your shop?? Good to have you back, but where is Chuck, beginning to worry about him 🤔
Spot on!

Thanks Terry, Yeah there's several ways to setup a E-Stop. The most important control, we hope to never use..

Nice job Dean. Hope to get back to my SB some day and get it finished. What size tool post are you using?
Hi Dennis, It's a AXA perfect size for the 10L SB. Would be awesome to see you back on the project!

Dean that was awesome. I have the same lathe as you do and I can see how useful the vid would be. If I may ask, what kind of motor do you have. Gilles
