He begins his statement as if we are going to hear that this ridiculous play might have caused his victory, but we are caught off guard when he gives the obvious conclusion. Anyone else can correct me if I’m wrong.

The funniest thing about Grischuk is that he is not trying to be funny. People just find him funny.
He absolutely knows he's being funny, he might not be trying very hard because he's mostly speaking truthfully from his heart and that's part of his deadpan delivery. But he's 100% being a wise ass as in he's in on it. You can't be a 2700 super GM and not at least be self-aware, even Chuky knows how others perceive him. People such as them just don't give three shits 'cause they don't have to.
Part of it is his way of speaking a second language gives him great delivery. What he’s saying isn’t really that funny
