  • This is the Stella Tent from OneTigris which may be one of the most important tents to come out in years.
    A good quality budget friendly 4th season tent?
    This tent could be a VERY big deal for the outdoor community!
    What I have today is one of 3 new 4 season tents from OneTigris which they are referring to as the Black Tigris Series. The tagline for this series says Experience the Mystery, Embrace the Comfort.
    I have no clue what Experience the Mystery means but anyways, as soon as I saw that these tents hit the market, I was VERY interested!
    Not only do these tents look awesome in terms of design and functionality but their prices are very fair if they perform as well as I hope they do.

    Looks interesting, I agree that it would be nice that they had mesh behind the doors so you could use it in warmer weather. If that was the case, I would probably buy another tent I don’t need.

    • @WisconsinEric
      @WisconsinEric Před rokem +5

      The mesh on the doors you mentioned will be needed in winter conditions too. Every single 4 season tent I have ever seen has it. I currently own 3+ four-season tents. A North Face VE-24, A Eureka Alpenlite XT, a Eureka Expedition Sentinel, and a 3+season Big Agnes Slater SL1+. Every one of those tents has mesh on the doors that can be closed off or opened.

      Great observation! Having mesh behind the doors would definitely be a great feature for warmer weather. It's always important to consider the versatility of a tent. Speaking of versatility, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a reliable power backup option for outdoor adventures, ensuring uninterrupted power supply. It's definitely worth checking out!

    I received my updated version of the Stella tent this past Friday. All seams are taped. Something I think was new was that where the zippers meet along the bottom, they now have put an internal water barrier on the inside of the tent to prevent leakage from where the zippers meet. It also seems they made a modification to the vent, but I can't quite figure out what it is yet. It still has four pockets. One difference for sure is that they have replaced the velcro ties on the underside of the rain fly with long ties with Single Barrel Spring Cord Locks to attach to the poles. I am guessing it is to allow for flexibility in positioning those tie offs to the poles. I do wish they would have made the pegs a bit longer than 7". We have constant wind here and I prefer pegs of at least 8". Like Luke always says, "Put a footprint under your tent", these lightweight fabrics can snag very easily on things on the ground (ie. goat head stickers). I made a footprint from an old waterbed mattress for my tent prior to setting it up. If it ever rains here in west Texas, I'm going to try and get it set up quickly to see what happens. I also purchased extra guy lines to have handy for any of my tents. I can say from what I see, I think I'm going to love this tent especially if it proves to be waterproof.

    Thanks for the review. My first backpacking tent was a two man from Eddie Bauer and I purchased it in 1972. It went to Philmont Scout Ranch and had served me well for many many years. Cleaning out my den the other day, I found it. It still works but is a bit too small for me. Will probably give it to the grandkids for a back yard tent. The tents have come a long way over the years and I enjoy watching you review them.
    Stay safe and God bless you and Susie.

    Luke come on your testing a four-season tent in the summertime. Of course you can test for rain but think about it like in the winter time you're not going to have that much condensation so you don't need that much mesh you want it to be warm and that is what they're giving you! Maybe next time wait until the winter time to test a winter tent.

    Looks good Luke been looking forward to this one, will probably buy this for my next winter camping in NZ. Very reasonable price and looks like a good amount of room, one thing I like is that it has two doors so if you want to let some air through during the day in warmer conditions it definitely helps. one thing I found with my current 3 season is that when it is really hot (on occasion) there is little airflow unless you have 2 doors. Huge selling point, look forward to the rain test!

    Well this solves a mystery
    Last year I bought a couple of budget tents on Amazon for forty bucks and they were legendary.
    I have camped in the Scottish Highlands with them and they are exemplary 3 season tents.
    I kept commenting to my camping buddy how odd this tent was though. It was legendary, dirt cheap, but the poles seamed slightly "off centre" like someone took an established design and quickly modified it. It all works perfectly, the parts are high quality, but there was a certain "miss match" in the design.....
    Whatever Chinese factory pumped out these One Tigris tents obviously decided to keep the machines running when the contract was over.
    They kept the quality, slightly simplified the design, removed the cross member and shipped it out for $40-80 depending on where you bought it from.
    Now I realise why the poles dont settle perfectly in alignment with the seams.... they chopped down the design slightly and changed a few things so it was legally "different".
    I congratulate Chinese piracy .... i got a cheap pro 3-seaons tent.
    One Tigris cant really complain... I recently discovered that they pirate designs too!

    Luke, I imagine the reason it was both wider and lower than stated has to do with how you staked it out. Variations in staking will, of course, change these dimensions slightly. I think this is going to be an excellent tent.

  • @sammysinno515
    @sammysinno515 Před rokem

    I adventure in all seasons. This tent is the first real 4 season tent contender that I have seen in a long while. I can already tell that those polls are not going to be able to handle the weight of a heavy snowfall. There is just no way. However, at that price point, I will be happy if it is waterproof and the polls don't snap when it gets below zero. Hopefully he also tests how well a space heater works in there.
    Depending on how well the tests go, I will likely buy one of these for some light winter camping and possibly backpacking when I'm not expecting a heavy snowfall.

    A cold/cool weather tent for $180 USD from OneTigris. I wouldn't have any complaints considering the design features and price. Some products aren't designed for year-round use. I mean you drop coin on winter clothes and don't wear them in the summer, no one thinks that's a limitation. They've simply made a budget friendly 4th season tent.

    • @giftedfox4748
      @giftedfox4748 Před rokem

      I agree. A bit odd that they would release it in the middle of the year when it is the most hottest. Not sure if they know the flaws of the tent when pushed into colder weather in hopes people buy it now with the half year wait before trying it. I do hope it holds up, a good budget winter tent would be very popular.

    At first, when you were setting it up, I thought of my Nemo Dagger tent. Then, as it went on, I said "Yeah, that is the same design all the way to the vent on the door as my Nemo Dagger". I don't mind having the design being used for others as it does open up more cheaper tents with that design on the market. It is just weird seeing a design I love and have been using for some time on here without it being mentation.
    For a winter tent that shares the same design as a tent I adore, this might be a good option for the winter. But the cheap price makes me wonder if it can indeed hold up to winter after several uses.

    Because of you Luke I have become a big fan of the One Tigris products. I am digging the black series of One Tigris, it’s kinda sexy.

    Nice one man tent but do they make a 4 season tent you can use in the summer

    I like it. The size and weight are acceptable for solo trips, especially at that price considering that most proper 4 season tents tend to be heavy and/or expensive. Is there a footprint available and can it be setup fly first?

      This isn't a 4 season tent, it's a 4th season tent. It's not intended for warm weather, winter only and maybe some cold fall/spring days depending where you live.

      @@maximusjoseppi5904 six of one, half a dozen of the other. I'm more interested in it for winter camping than anything else, got other tents for the rest of the year.

      @@shawnr6117 no. They are completely different things. A 4 season tent can be used all year long and offers removable wind proofing fabrics and lots of ventilation options for warm weather and ways to seal it all for cold weather.
      A 4th season tent is this, something that can only be used in cold weather and is unusable in warm weather.

    Luke, how do those poles look and feel, in your opinion?
    Obviously, we'll have to wait for next Winter to properly test a snow load... But are those the same ole poles on every other tent? Are they maybe a lil beefier?
    That lower weight has me concerned, tbh.
    I'm sure it'll do exceptional in cold/wet conditions, tho.

    As an owner of the One Tigris Cosmitto tent, I really like it. I wonder, though, if it would be possible to buy just the inner tent and use it with the Cosmitto rainfly so I could have ONE tent with a 4th season option, and to save cost, or if I'd have to buy a whole new tent. Luke, I know you are in contact with these companies on a regular basis, so if you don't know the answer off-hand, would you please look into it for us? Many thanks! :)

    onetigris made a nice looking tent, for a version. 1 it seems great but with little refinement can be even better, the door flaps should zip so its connected at the top to make awnings with, the inner doors should have a top half zip open mesh, a stove jack version for a small wood stove would be nice and maybe a mylar material sewn between the nylon to reflect the heat while keeping weight under 6# would be amazing

    This basically looks like a Cosmitto but with a 4 season inner, it would be nice if they would sell the inner alone so you could use it as an addon for the Cosmitto.

    Great video! I would like to know however if you think this would hold up well in high winds? The price point both intrigues and concerns me. Have a trip to Mount Shasta planned in a month. Do you think this tent would work well for high wind above tree line camping?

      I have a tent that has the same design as this one, Nemo OSMO Dagger, and I trust that tent with high winds. This tent, since I am not sure how strong the poles are compared to Nemo, I wouldn't recommend doing high wind tests just yet. This is meant for winter camping so it is possible that they only considered snow load and low temps instead of other factors like high winds.
