I have lived to see many of these moments as I am 71! Many proud moments.
Nice!
Young 71
I saw Mohammed Ali when I was working at the airport in L.A. I was meeting an inbound flight & when we open the aircraft door the first person we see is a flight attendant, but this time when I opened the door, Mohammed Ali was standing there! I couldn't speak ... I just stared at him. He winked at me & went on his way. I'll never forget that day. 🥰
These were all amazing times in American history. Another one that always has stuck with me was when Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem. Such a beautiful voice. RIP Whitney.
Amen!! I watch it every year before the Super Bowl! It’s the only anthem that should be played, there should be a holographic Whitney at every sporting event.❤️😂
I actually got choked up just now watching Ali in that clip. He was responsible for my being able to handle myself with three 3rd-grade bullies when I was in just the 1st grade. The three were much bigger than me, of course, and would slap my coat and lunch pail down on my way home; and as I picked them up, would flip my dress up. Finally, I grabbed my stuff and would run home, quite red-faced, pissed off and feeling utterly helpless. I asked my older brother to beat them up. He was in the 6th grade and not about to fight what were little kids to him. Instead, he took me into the basement to watch Mohammed Ali fight on the big TV and described his strategies and got me fascinated with him. He turned an old stuffed chair backwards and taught me how to throw a punch from the hip, to the shoulder and following all the way through until connecting. Terrified, I tore a hole into the back of that chair training. I met one of the boys on the playground, tapped him on the shoulder and when he turned around, I planted one right between the eyes and bent his glasses like butterfly wings. He was older so I had to punch up, and he fell with a thud and cried so hard, all of the kids surrounded him. One of the spectators pointed me out as having done the deed and my stomach was sick from guilt as the teacher approached. Then, to make matters worse, the two other older boys arrived as well. But to my surprise, I didn't get in trouble; and the two bullies who remained standing were impressed and I became their new third friend. I never wore dresses to primary school again and ended up fighting a string of boys until their upper bodies became too much for me in Jr. High, and we were maturing, so fights were rare and boys hitting girls was a badge of shame. But I believed in the magic of Mohammad Ali who saved me from the wrath of those older boys and many who followed. Later, I learned of Ali's anti-war stance and his fight for civil rights. That made him even more of an American hero. He truly was THE GREATEST!
When I tell you I can't stop crying 😢
I Love my country..... thur it all
The American Flag is everything 🙌
The American flag is also known as "'Old Glory", the "Stars and Stripes" and the "Star Spangled Banner". The blue canton is called the "Union" and contains the stars that represent each state in the union. The red and white stripes represent the 13 colonies. Long may she wave in freedom and peace!
Yeah I remember watching the Olympics with Mary Lou retton all of USA was glued to the TV for that.
Yep!!! 💕
Watch the actual footage of the opening ceremony with the World Trade Center flag. Of course it was outside and the flag was moving a bit throughout. What struck me at the time was that at the point where they sing, “..O say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave..” the wind suddenly picked up and the colors did, in fact, wave. I was bawling the whole time watching it live.
I watched Mary Lou win gold at my Grandma's. We're from WV and everyone was so proud!! I remember having conversations about it with my uncles and aunts and feeling that was the first time I engaged in a convo as an equal. It felt really empowering, lol. I was 10. :)
20 years later and I still tear up at any 9/11 footage. It was just such a scary, heartwrenching time in our country. 😭
Jesus! I started crying on the first clip!!
Chills right off the bat. I really appreciate how you explore & feel other's pride in culture. Thank you for one of those heart touching reactions Kabir.
Seeing the flag from the World Trade Center makes me teary eyed all over again. Even though this year will be 21 years since 9/11 the memories are still so vivid.I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. The 9/11 footage of things happening after is still so emotional.
Muhammad Ali is the greatest I’ve ever seen. Just a hero for the ages. I remember watching him light that torch as a teenager. It was one of the first times I ever saw my dad cry. I just broke down watching it again now. Some things are just too special and you can’t even look at them too often because it is such a powerful experience
I agree with gymnastics being underrated.
I live in Michigan, & they named a hockey arena after Joe Louis, in Detroit. Unfortunately the Joe Louis Arena was not up to code and it wasn't fitting the crowd size anymore. I think they should've turned it into a museum, but they demolished it instead. I have the same feelings about the old Detroit Tigers Stadium, because that got demolished in the early 2000's.
Your channel is really great. I would like to see you do what foreigners think of americans.
Thanks so much Buzz :) I like that suggestion, I'll put it on my list!
Lots of great patriotic chants going on lately! 😉
LGB! 😂
Let`s go Brandon!

you mean terrorist chants, right?
The movie Miracle is about the US hockey team. It was a good movie.
It's actually "Miracle on Ice"
@@michaelbateman8469 you are referring to the 1981 film I think. I was referring to Disney’s 2004 movie “Miracle” starring Kurt Russell. I didn’t know about the 1981 version. Now that you have mentioned it I will have to check it out to see how they differ.
They kinda showed it at the beginning, but crazy they left Mike Piazza's game winning 8th inning home run just 10 days after 9/11 off. That was the first big thing that helped New York get going again and gets talked about here infinitely more than Bush's pitch.
In New York, not nationally. I think the video is geared more towards events noted by the nation.
@@msdarby515 tell me how often anyone talks about George Bush throwing a first pitch
@@CNep99 I'm not going to debate a list with you. There's always someone who has a problem with the list "shoulda woulda coulda had this on the list".
My only point is their list seemed to focus on things that were more of a national interest.
May not be a sport technically but Vince McMahons speech a few days after 9/11 takes number 1 for me. They were the first major televised arena after 9/11 and showed the world that America is here to stay like it or not.
9:22 Fitting, though. Bush hadn't played baseball since high school.
If you haven’t seen miracle on ice I highly recommend it. Not only did the beat the ussr but the ussr that same year before the olympics beat the nhl all star team handily. Those kids had no chance my dad told me when he was a kid he stayed up late with his brother and dad and listened to the miracle on ice and when the USA won he said all the lights on the street came on and the whole neighborhood came out and partied together like they had won gold.
1:33 there’s one guy that would be a worth-while reaction video
You might want to react to the great movie about the the U.S. hockey team Olympic victory starring Kurt Rusell. MIRACLE.
I don't follow any sports. But some I remember well.
May have already been mentioned, but the "Miracle on Ice" is where the now famous "USA USA USA" chant originated. It was so deafening as the game drew to a close that the Soviet players admitted afterwards that it really rattled them. Hee hee!
Soviets league goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 they did not played in 1980 olympics! No-one in USA watched USA vs Soviets 34 million tv ratings In 1980! Baseball world Series 1980 drew 54 million! Superbowl 82 million! How low you can get when slow boring baseball beat hockey game! Only hockey player ever had fans was Russian Kharlamov 225 million fans in 1980! USA populaation was 225 million only!!
Its still emotional to watch.
Rulon is a fascinating man. Dude had an MMA fight against a ultra dangerous and top fighter of the time/Judo Olympic Gold medalist in his only fight/debut and completely controlled the fight and looked like a competent and professional fighter. I would have loved to see him fight some more. Survived and went down with some friends in a frozen river in the frozen back country when the ice collapsed under snowmobiles. Then survives another frozen winter's night where he and friends had to swim over an hour to the lakeshore after a plane crash in Wyoming's mountain country. Dude's build different.
I was at Derrick Jeters house in Tampa Florida a couple of times.
Oh wow, whats he like?
@@kabirconsiders He was a decent guy. He was definitely sowing his wild oats. There was a different woman with him every time. When he and a girl went to a restaurant they would put up a rope barrier so people would leave him alone. Otherwise he and the girl would be mobbed with autograph and selfie seeking fanatics. He has the largest single family home in Tampa Florida at 31k Square feet,or 2880 square meters
Max Schmeling was never a Nazi and never joined the party. I believe he was actually involved with saving a Jewish family.
Also note that he became good friends with Joe Lewis later in life and helped Joe during his difficult times. It's a must read on the two of these boxers and vastly different paths.
Yeah you should watch the movie Miracle.
The flag thing at the start. 💔
Gotta check out Johnny cash, that ragged old flag
Great reaction, didn’t know about Rick Monday saving the flag, thanks.
Epic!
Can’t remember if you’ve done anything about the Miracle on Ice, if you haven’t you should.
I always hit the like button early because you really really appreciate it.
Kabir thank you for your reaction to The Most Patriotic Moments In US Sports History. It did being tear to my eyes and made my heart feel proud in my soul.
love this compilation, but Max Schmeling was not a Nazi.
He actually hid and protected Jewish citizens during a Nazi purge.
Also, he was friends with Joe Lewis until the day he died.
Wanna hear something funny Jo Louis and Max actually was good friends Max did not believe in Nazism
When the American Olympic Hockey team beat the Soviet Union. ( the movie Miracle is that story)
What about the 1960 miracle on ice?
The second Louis vs Schmeling fight was a scheduled 15 rounder. Championship fights at the turn of the 20th century were unlimited rounds, but 15 round fights began to appear in the 1910's and became the norm in the 1920's. The last 15 round heavyweight fight was between Mike Tyson and Tyrell Biggs in 1987, the last middleweight 15 round fight was in 1997. At that time they went to 12 rounders. There has been a call for a return to 15 round fights, and I for one am a supporter. Rounds 12 to 15 used to be called the "championship rounds" because those where true champions showed their mettle. Strangely enough, Schmeling was not a nazi and said so during his time. In his retirement he is quoted as saying he was glad he lost the fight since he would have been given a medal by Hitler. Also that at the end of the war because of it he may have been accused of war crimes.
People didn't know that President George W. Bush was an avid workout warrior. Although a natural party boy he kept himself (like Barak Obama after him) in good shape, and his sport of choice was baseball. Anyone remember his reaction when the middle eastern protester threw his shoe at Bush? Him making a good pitch to home plate didn't surprise me.
Not surprisingly Jessie Owens was treated better by the white German fans where he was revered in 1936 than white people in his own country.
I don't think the Nazi party gave Max a choice on if they would associate themselves and him. He had to do what they told him to do because that regime was one that would make sure you disappeared if you did something to cross them. He was sidelined after losing the fight too, he end up serving as a paratrooper in the German Army during the war.
If the Whitney Houston national Anthem is not in this list, then this list is not good enough. 😂😂
can you react to more car crash compilations I don't know why but it's entertaining
Re; gymnastics, I think the artsy-fartsy events like floor and the beam should be judged on the athleticism and difficulty, NOT on some arbitrary and subjective opinion on their dance or style points.
I'm not a hockey fan, but I lived through the era of the Miracle on Ice.
This was before professional athletes were allowed to compete. But everyone knew the Soviets were cheating. American athletes had to compete internationally just to qualify for the Olympics. This meant great expenditures to the athletes or their families to keep the athlete in contention. Imagine conditions in poorer nations.
But, the Soviets paid their athletes to be... athletes. No other nation did this, but the Soviets did their homework on the rules and found loopholes, or... might subtlety suggest a threat to the IOC official that might argue the rule.
The Soviet team was globally dominant. The fact that a bunch of truly amateur athletes were able to beat the Soviet powerhouse was a shockwave around the world. And Americans surfed the wave.
Great video :) Have you reviewed the Miracle on Ice yet?
I'm not sure if you reacted to it or not. But many of those present day Videos were opened with the star spangled banner. Nobody does it or did it better than Whitney Houston. It's a video worth checking out
if you b haven't already done so
There are at last two movies titled “Race”. One is the Jesse Owens story and is streaming on Netflix or Peacock now. It’s well worth the watch.
Ali was the best. He talked a lot,but he could back it up.
Our Flag was battered but we weren't broken.
Really enjoying your channel!
Thanks Deena :)
Me: Patriotic moments? This might be emotional.
#10 - WTC flag
Me: Burst into tears. 😭
Really enjoyed this video Kabir. It was nice to see such a variety of sports and time periods represented (not just the "Big Four"). I remember watching the USA beat the USSR for the hockey gold medal - super exciting! It's interesting to note that back in the day, the USSR block athletes (in all sports including gymnastics, swimming, weight-lifting, etc.) were the equivalent of professionals because they were selected very young, trained by top trainers, housed, and supported by the state for years in order to compete on the world stage and show the dominance and "superiority" of the USSR. The US in contrast, did not have such a system; our athletes had to work regular jobs and scrap & save to afford to train and compete. At the time only amateur athletes were allowed to compete in the Olympics, and the USSR athletes were still classified as amateur since they weren't receiving checks. That imbalance was fixed in 1986 when the Olympic Committee started allowing professional athletes to compete (and further helped in 1991 when the USSR broke apart). IMO, the Olympics should showcase the best athletes in the world - it shouldn't matter whether they are paid to play outside the Games. It's been tough in hockey to field professional players in the Winter Olympics due to the Games being during the regular NHL season, but I just read that the NHL has created a gap in the schedule in 2022 to allow the pros to compete.
You should watch the University of Michigan and Michigan State University American football game. It happened last week and a great example of a college “derby” game.
As difficult and demanding as gymnastics is, Synchronized Swimming is by far the most underrated. All that physicality, choreography, precision, showmanship and most of it while holding your breath upside-down underwater. It's an insane amount of effort.
Max Schmeling was not a nazi he became friends with joe Lewis
Sports + patriotism, doesn’t get better than that. Another great video👍
jesse owens said germany treated him better than america. sink in
Hey can you react to the news coming out of new york about America being convicted of 5 counts of genocide of the black, brown, and indigenous peoples. It is all over native tiktok.
Or the 7,300+ children found around residential/industrial indian schools.
Though Hitler took advantage of propaganda from Schelling's championship, Max was not a Nazi. Also, back in those days (the 30's,) bouts were limited to 15 rounds at most. The days of 60 round fights had been eliminated about 30 years earlier.
There is a less wonderful part to the 1936 Berlin Olympics. While the Jesse Owens story is just great, two US runners were prevented by the US Olympic Committee from competing in a sprint relay; one of whom became a sportscasting legend, Marty Glickman. The reason: both men were Jewish. Apparently, the USOC didn't want to upset Der Furher. A truly gutless and dark day in Olympics history, especially for the USOC.
Schmelling was German, born in Klein Luckow, Jatznick, Germany.
@@michaelsmith-iu1be of course he was German. He wasn't a Nazi.
@@michaelsmith-iu1be And your point is?
Yep I remember my Mom and Dad let me and my little sister stay up to watch TEAM USA BEAT USSR hockey team!!! I can remember we were sitting in front of a little tv could hardly see the puck but we all was counting down the clock to the end of the game all yelling at the tv and the Refes to end the game !!!! Then after the win just had to wait a few more days the see them win the gold medal!!!!
Championship boxing matches were 15 rounds from the early 1920s until 1982 when they were lowered to 12 rounds. Prior to the 15 round championship limit many fights went on until there was a finish
Now that you’ve seen the Jesse Owens context, you should react to Bill Burr’s bit about “Black Athletes & Hitler.” I tried to search if you had but I didn’t see it come up
I was thinking the exact same thing when the Jesse Owen's clip came on. Yes, please react to Bill Burr!
when i think of Patriotic and Sports i immediately go to Rick Monday 🇺🇲
I was an 8 year old watching the 60 OLYMPICS when Cassius Clay won a Gold Medal and 4 years later change his name and go on to be one of the Greatest Heavyweights , M. Ali. RIP.
Tear Jerker right off tha bat man.
Let's go Brandon
🤣😂💯👊
I`m now an "Alphabet American".
LGBFJB!
Brandon Marshall wasn't in this video.
I was waiting to see if they'd include Rick Monday saving the flag! Yes!
👍👍👍👍
If you haven’t lost a tooth then you’re not a hockey player!
1991 NHL All Star Game. Almost cancelled due to Operation Desert Storm in Iraq but the game was played at the old Chicago Stadium. The National Anthem at that game is the gold standard of fan reaction to patriotism.
max schmelig wasn`t a nazi....
Max Schmeling wasn't a Nazi, though. He and Joe Louis became lifelong friends after WWII...
You should react to Miracle on Ice, it's about the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team vs the USSR.
Did you react to sonny liston yet?
Miracle on Ice had to be #1
Do a Miracle on Ice documentary
This video would be good but it’s missing the red, white, and blue out. In a matter of days post 9/11 3 students organized the red/white/blue out for the first Texas A&M Football game against Oklahoma State in the first college football game post 9/11. The top deck was solid red, Middle deck solid white, and bottom deck solid blue. The students recreated it earlier this season, but pictures are still available on the google machine if you wanted to take a look.
You need to react to the Miracle on Ice if you haven't already
Gymnastics may be underrated overseas, but in the US, gymnastics is shoved down American's throats so much during the olympics that networks will completely ignore hundred of other great athletes just to give the gymnastics cult more air time. They will even stop showing other real events when the gymnasts do what amounts to a pageant post competition event. Basically the coverage becomes "we'll show you a five minute feature of some medalist in rowing, for example, now let's get back to another three hours of gymnastics". Same with figure skating in the Winter Olympics.
Hey kabir, I’m back commenting again. So you’ve done WW2 by oversimplified so maybe you could do WW1 by oversimplified
😁
Look into the miracle on ice
Great choices, but I would add Whitney Houston's appearance at the Super Bowl singing the National Anthem in 1991.
The final was won by African American Jesse Owens, with silver going to Mack Robinson *BROTHER of baseball's Jackie Robinson* Yes, THE Jackie Robinson who broke the color barrier in pro baseball. Robinson finished only 1/6 seconds behind Owens despite no coaching and worn down cleats.
I don't know what is taught in Black History month but I hope kids are taught about these TWO talented historic African American brothers.
Someone I know said gymnasts make other athletes look like they aren't even trying. Like oh you're going to run? Try flipping, twisting and flying through the air and then smiling.
Boxing matches were 15 rounds in the 30s.
20 years after 9/11 and I'm still pissed
Max Schmeling was a good dude
Schmeling went against Hitler by supporting Jews, including his manager. I remember hearing he became friends with Louis after the war, but not sure if this is correct.
No Michael Phelps? What the hell!
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING compares to Muhammad Ali lighting the Olympic torch. NOTHING COMPARES. That's not my opinion.....That's Just The Way It Is. Muhammad Ali FOREVER...!!!!! 🙂
happy friday! hope y'all have a good weekend
You should react to the Cubs winning the World Series in 2016! Love your videos btw. Thank you 💜💯
I went to a fight one time and a hockey game broke out...
Patriotism is a funny thing, in the most cases it's not leading to the truth, it leads more to lovely myths that better fit what people and mostly politicians want to hear.
The story between the "Nazi" Max Schmeling und Joe Lewis is very special, what the lady didn't like to say, was that Schmeling and Lewis became friends, Schmeling helped Lewis with his financial issues and contributed to the costs of Lewis funeral.
The story of Jesse Owens is also not really correct, the Germans and even Hitler treated Jesse Owens much better at this time than his own people and even president Roosevelt.
Hitler waved to Jesse Owens after his victory like he did it to any other competitor and shaked his hands later, because it was not allowed to do it directly anymore after he did it on the first day of the Olympics, because he had to be neutral.
By the way the shoes he weared were from the German Adolf Dassler (Adidas), for the qualification to the final round of long jump he became help from his German opponent Luz Long, because Owens missed the first two jumps and wasn't qualified. He told him to change the distance of his approach and it worked.
Black sportsman were not really popular in the US at this time, only if they won something.
German prisoners of war could do more in the US than black American soldiers, because of their skin colour.
The US created Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban and Al-Qaida in the first place. They brought these guys together and trained them in terroristic tactics and strategies, they gave them the money and sold them the weapons.
Bush did a lot of horrible things,
the so called weapons of mass destruction were never found in Iraq.
The US (Bush) and UK (Blair) lied to the world.
👋🤗
