My 15 yr old son watched this video. Took 3 bad displays out of a Mata Hari we’re working on. He diagnosed 7 bad resistors and quickly replaced them.
Save us $150 for new ones!
    Thanks so much!

Beautiful video. I have a box of bad 6-digit displays to fix later and a few 7-digits that I need to fix right now for league night. It’s great that someone your age is interested in fixing these antiques. Your tutorial skills are top-notch.

Great visuals on finding and fixing board problems. It's one thing to talk about how to repair but it's way better when you show it too. Thanks

This was one of the most helpful pinball videos that I have seen. Im definitely not a newbie either. How about a video on repairing Williams 80s displays?

Love it. Keep these up. One issue I just came across (not fixed yet), one bad resistor, replaced, and now that display sets all displays to act...wonky. It shows erratic numbers. So keep up the good work, we'll all benefit from your efforts. Thanks!

Well-done vid with no annoying background music! Thank you! Would have liked to have been able to see the chip removal at 9:00.

Excellent video. My displays stopped working and all fuses checked out and voltage. Started working through the fuse connection and it was faulty. Thanks for explaining in detail and providing great visuals.

Awesome work with these displays! I, too, am working out display problems, although a completely different type (troubleshooting issues with a dot matrix display in my prototype Alvin G Mystery Castle). The display itself keeps randomly rebooting and sometimes when I turn the machine on the DMD doesn't turn on at all. Otherwise, it works perfectly minus those 2 problems, no dots/rows/columns missing. It's been tough, not a lot of info on Alvin G games out there, but I *think* most DMDs are the same between companies, which gives me hope.
Anyways, awesome stuff! I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I can own my own arcade one of these days! :)

Very weird that the 2 resistors were missing. Also I have that component tester as well, I really like it, fast way to test all sorts of stuff, and it was pretty cheap. I started with a green mat exactly like yours, but just got a nice silicone one with tray spaces, it feels so cool, and it don't curl on the edges like the green ones do. Thanks man.

Very nice video! First thing I usually look at is the 100K resistors and the header pin connector solder joints when missing any digits or strobing or no digits at all. I have one display somewhere in a box of those that made the driver board blow smoke rings on th HV section. Shorted display tube? What about when all the digits, in self test, count wrong? Is that the 14543 chip? I haven't looked at your other videos yet.

Brilliant video thanks a lot. I see you were working on a silverball mania machine, that's what I have. Im not as knowledgeable as you and have built the machine up with a lot of luck and parts scavenging. I have power to it after fixing the board and some flippers work, no sound yet and the number displays don't have numbers just some dots.
I'm trying to get a soundboard atm any ideas where?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Kind regards Keevor

what would the problem be if just the second digit was out on all four scores? Thanks.

    • @PinsandFins
      @PinsandFins Před rokem

I just had this problem and the digit was out because of a problem with the top left connector on the mpu board. Repinning and rebuilding that connector solved the display problem.
