  • I painted my Focus RS in my homemade paint booth that I built in my garage. After spending a few hundred dollars in paint supplies and purchasing a Harbor Freight paint gun the Focus RS is finally all one color! It actually turned out better than I expected... That is a wrap to this Focus RS car rebuild project!

I just got quotes in California ranging from $2,000-$3,000 to paint an already prepped and separated from the car bumper, hood and fender. I was super nervous, but was shocked at how easy it was. $400 in materials and a new skill learned.

Professionals are crazy expensive but honestly with some patience you can definitely get a decent looking paint job doing it yourself!

Nice build man. I my self picked up a stealth gray 2016 RS with the RS2 package with only 11k miles in May of this year. Finally have my dream car. Have you checked if the previous owner did the head gasket recall?

To answer the question, "Do body shops charge too paint your car?", No. They are professionals. If they mess up they have to fix it for free or out of their own pocket. If you mess up you didn't save anything by doing it yourself. Is painting difficult? No, it's actually pretty easy once you get the swing of it. Do some research, practice, apply, enjoy!

I agree, they do charge a lot but when you get it back the paint should and hopefully will look just as good as the factory. Getting all the supplies to paint definitely adds up but it was something I wanted to learn for future projects so I think it was worth the risk.

@@CalebEckenrode personally, I couldn't agree more! There's nothing I won't try! I've acquired so many skills throughout my life due to my passion for learning new skills and I HIGHLY encourage it!
I went school to learn auto body, I was a cook for many years, went to school to become a sheet metal mechanic, and I dabble with anything that runs on gasoline and a million other things.
Keep doing what you're doing and sharing it with the community. We need to inspire as many people as we can to get out there and try new things!

It depends, I was just quoted $2,500-$3,000 to paint an ALREADY prepped and removed from car bumper, hood and fender. Did it myself for $400. So in California, yes, they do charge too much.
