You mention twice at 1:24 and 1:42 that you should watch your right blade, but I still don't think you stress this point enough. That is so key to mastering rolls. As soon as I started watching the blade I didn't have to think about keeping my head down, pulling it up last, proper hip snap form, leaning back slightly at the end, etc. It all just fell into place. It was like magic. Thanks for these great videos!
Watch the active blade! It's the key to making the magic happen. Thank you, Ken Whiting. You're the man.
very good tutorials on this channel. I practice rolling over with the paddle up in the air, then setting up underwater.... in a real situation at sea, you will be caught by surprise.
once underwater,
I set up using the knob on the handle which most paddles have. then put the blade into the air, and flap it twice on the surface of the water to ensure it is parallel to the water - if this is not the case, it will just cut the water like a knife and provide no uplift.
then i place my body as close to the surface as i can and sweep as above, following the flat blade with my eyes and head - a good sweep and you will hear the paddle skim the surface with a swish. if I come up and start falling back in , an extra flick of the hips can right the kayak. or sweep behind and push down on the water.
I finish head on shoulder, looking backwards at my paddle.
I've used this out a sea when a swell rolled me 150m from a cliff.
I've spent a lot of time in the past few weeks watching videos on the subject of 'rolls' and this is by far the clearest, simplest and shortest I have seen on the subject. Thank you for the help. Love 'SeakayakingTV'
im learning to role and this role for me was easiest to lern. this video really helps
Sussed it thanks mate... subscribed
nice, i must try, because few days ago i flip under water and my brother with watercraft help me to get into kayak
Hey, that's pretty good
A true c to c roll does not end as a back deck roll. This is a hybrid roll.
There's good info here but I wouldn't over think things. Make sure you have at least 4 feet of water and experiment. It's almost innate. NOTHING BEATS EXPERIENCE.
