- Driver is a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can't help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene, a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard. After a heist intended to pay off Standard's protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals. But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk - that they're coming straight for Irene and her son - Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.
I'm so glad that I didn't see the trailer before I watched the movie.

I assume because it spoils a lot of the movie, and it doesn't represent what the movie is.
Because I just showed someone the trailer and they've now basically seen the whole f***Ing movie. Tension totally ruined !!!!!!!

Ryan's character is so deep, it would have been fascinating to know his past and background, but that air of mystery with a longing to belong to something made this film even better
The book the movie is based on goes a bit deeper into Driver's past, I'd highly reccomend you check it out. It's called Drive by James Sallis, and there's another one after that called Driven. Both are classic day readers, and both have shaped the way I look at life.

I love this movie. First movie I saw twice in the movie theaters back in 2011.
In college, i wrote an essay about the book in one class, and an essay about the movie in another class. I got A’s on both.
I own the Blu-Ray, the book, and the OST. This movie was awesome and still holds ups today. I hope future generations realize what a classic it is.

I totally agree with you. I just gave Drive my second watch last night and was blown away. It was even better than I remembered, and I was VERY impressed on the first watch back in 2011.
The film is perfect. Simply perfect.
Maybe I would have loved to have seen more of Chrstina Hendricks, perhaps a director's cut, maybe even an alternate version (ending) but otherwise it's a 10/10 all round.
Pure masterpiece. Movie was so good, I actually FELT for the character.

Worst trailer I've seen for such gem movie. Does not represent the retro feel of the masterpiece, and shows so much spoiler that can ruin the experience of watching it. Stepping outside of Hollywood conformism box, Drive is simply amazing.

I love the "quiet cool" demeanour of Ryan Gosling's character. He's clearly a good guy but seems to be deeply troubled by something. If we would get more of his backstory then I would guess he's an ex-military man traumatized by his war experiences and suffering from PTSD and looking for some sort of normality and peace in his life but is having a hard time finding it.
That's actually a really good interpretation, I can't see it any other way.
One of my favorite movies of all time, the sound track is a muse.

For those that like Drive and 80s throwback films in general, I highly recommend "It Follows." The soundtrack is 100% golden age 80s horror synth, and so are the visuals and general style. I'd call it an aesthetic sister-film to Drive.
Also 'The Guest'. Same crazy synth. But yeah It Follows is incredibly tense.

It Follows had a decent vibe, but there were too many plot holes other problems that I have no interest in watching it again.
I'm so glad Drive isn't an action movie (like this trailer paints it out to be) in reality it's one of the greatest films of all time

Cracks me up that people say this movie sucks just because it doesn't hand them entertainment on a silver platter like all the action movies now a days. This movie is a work of art and should be appreciated as such. Don't get mad just because the main character doesn't have a thousand witty lines and comments through the entire movie. The simplicity of this film is what makes it so gorgeous.

Brilliant acting, cinematography and overall music. Gosling was awesome, the music and Albert Brooks first non-comedic role in a movie is amazing. This is my favorite movie and it introduced me to the Retrosynth/Vaporwave subculture. After watching this film drive the entire night in neo lighting with a playlist like this film

This movie singlehandedly made me fall in love with both sleeper cars as well as retrowave for over a decade now. This trailer does no justice to this masterpiece of a movie and the actual effort put in by the actors.

+DOG In fact, "Fast and Furious" are car movies only for those people who were born recently and/or enjoy more modern cars. "Two-Lane Blacktop" and "Mad Max" are car movies, while "Fast and Furious" is a carsploitation. Not that it's bad, though, because exploitation movies tend to turn into masterpieces, from time to time and for that reason alone they should be made.

This really is the last best movie i have seen recently, not much dialogue, mostly facial expressions which really gives you a feel of how the character feels. The music selection went soo incredibly well with the all the scenes. I still listen to Kavinsky “Nightcall” when im driving late at night. Amazing movie 20 out of 10

The first time when I watched this I thought to myself "Hey this feels just like hotline miami" and I learned from the comments that this movie did inspire the game, which makes me love the movie more
Unless you're really into films or cinematography, I don't think you'll truly be able to appreciate the magnificence of Drive. I can understand how some people might say this is a bad movie and it's their opinion of course, that's no problem, but it really is a work of art. It's a nice change from most other action/thrillers.

Project X and Pain & Gain. Nothing wrong with those movies, but everytime I bring them up these "real nerd critics hate on those movies.
Cool to see somebody with a more relax style in movies, although personally I think there were far better movies than those in 2012/2013.
I loved Nightcrawler, the whole setting and feeling in the movie gave me goosebumbs. nightcrawler is much more than just a guy with a camera, the whole manipulation in the movie from Jake was excellent, but ofcourse, I can see why not everybody like it, hell, even my parents did not like it

This film was so beautifully made, refreshing to see a film made by a true artist these days.
I have no interest in convincing anyone that this movie is worth seeing. I just know that for me, it was amazing. I was blown away by the depth and dark beauty of it all. The actors were spot on. The retro eighties stylization wove together a tapestry of strong emotions and mood. This film had heart where you wouldn't expect to find it.

I was obsessed with Drive when it came out. I still remember how it made me feel the first time I saw it.
It's almost like Nik Winding Refn made the soundtrack first and then made the accompanying movie.

It's funny to think that just three years ago (actually, it's four now, isn't it? fuckin' a), Oscar Isaac was playing a role like this one, and now he's a big-time leading man who's about to be in the new Star Wars movie. That's an incredible ascension, and he deserves it.

An absolute masterpiece. This film is one of the few movies where you know somehow it's going to be great just of by the beginning sequence. For - a similar movie frosting the same atmosphere I recommend Nightcrawler (2014)

Honestly I think this is a great movie. It contains one of my (personal) favourite actors like Bryan cranston which played in BB. It also contains a composer of my fav band called daft punk. Everything together makes this such a masterpiece.

Just watched it. Its quite phenomenal.
Although it was short, the character development of a simple silent man to a stoic and head strong individual enveloping at the end made me feel for him. The setting and scenes felt like a painting. 10/10

Lot of people complaining about the trailer, although it did give away a lot of the movie fortunately it didn't show the spoiler where his parachute doesn't open in the final scene.

I love how misleading the trailer is, for someone that enjoys all sorts of films, and especially serious films over pulpy generic ones, Drive is easily in my top 15 favorite films of all time
