- Mika lost control as his brakes failed and Schumi goes faster than anyone on the track. As this incident happened some laps before the end of the race, I didn't cut the last laps of this interesting race :)

The best era, the best cars, the best drivers, the best commentary team, the best engines.....
1:45-2:00 tears to my eyes listening good ol' Martin rooting for his former team and team-mate Mika to keep the engine running and continuing the race. This was when commentators still had class.
Brundle and Murray's commentary is god tier. Doesnt get better than that.
6:08 amazing downshift sound.
I liked Brundle's commentary here
Murray Walker and Martin Brundle, the brilliant commentary duo. Miss them commentating together
What got me into F1 was the incredible battles between Hakkinen and Schumi!
Yes Mika knew that Mclaren's engine is going to blow up every two races for the next 5 years as happened with Kimi. He was wise to get out.
and also Alonso 2 years ago
we gave up the fight because he knew michael would be in a equal car
he
also traction control was coming back so mclarens advantage was coming to an end
No KERS, no DRS, just Mika and Michael pushing hard!
..950hp though
***** Due to many reasons
*****, as it should be.....
ItsThatMilkshake
The 900+ engines was only in 2004/2005!
The best engines at this point in the V10 era had 750-800 bhp!
Michael I. Hansen You are correct
Murray at his best 7:56
In full flow covering an exciting race like this & he can still drop knowledge on us like that !
Most of the time he was brainfarting
@@deliriumbee4678 Exactly, I never understand the hyping and celebration of him when he brought nothing to coverages except excited yelling of predictable and repetitive lines, like a certain David Croft.
I think you need that balance, can't just have 2 guys going mental at everything that happens. Martin does and always has done an excellent job co-commentating on F1
Murray saying ''Retefelio'' brings back enough great memories on it's own
1:42 one of the greatest bits of Murray Walker commentary
therealjeagles Yes I got goosebumps then... One of my other favourite Murray Walker moments was when Mansell passed Berger round the outside at Mexico 1990
Another piece of Murray Walker gold came at this very race where Coulthard retired!
WHATEVER WHATEVER
@TheV12ferrari oh I agree, Mika's skills were unparalleled, a true sportsman (something michael was missing, unfortunately..), a great fighter (2000 Belgian GP) and a survivor (remember adelaide 95). I only wish he could have raced for a few more seasons, but he knew that he couldn't compete in such a high level anymore
He couldn’t compete at such a high level any more? ..... you’re wrong. He could have easily competed for many more years. Maybe not pole position but certainly in the running. He wanted to start a family with his wife and they both agreed that the risks weren’t worth it.
1:53 Tifosi have no chill, absolutely ecstatic over Hakkinen’s spin lol
Mika was closing in on Michael and posted the fastest lap of the race on lap 45 of 1 minute 25.139 seconds which was faster than Michael's best lap of 1 minute 25.483 seconds. Mika came into the chicane on lap 46 with front brake failure at 175 MPH and was able to keep the engine alive. The car had only rear brakes and Mika was able to run laps 5 seconds slower with no front brakes for the rest of the race.
Miss u Mika!
Fantastic upload. Thank you for this!
Lol 1:54 Mika cheers himself on in the crowd xD
As Michael said, the only driver he was afraid of was Mika; and he was a Gentleman.
Thats an awesome comment to see. True F1 fan mate :)
'Respect and Love for both Schumi and Mika'
Nice to see someone not hating on either of them :)
Ultimate commentator partnership..Murray and Martin. Miss those years of racing and commentating.
A Minardi overtaking a McLaren at 11:05. History has been made. I loved the Minardi team so very much.
Good to remember, that Hakkinen had a brake failure, which caused that spin. After that spin, for the few last laps remaining in the race, he was completely out of pace because of the failed brakes.
Cars look beautiful, sound beautiful, great commentary, no chat about tyres, drivers pushing. All gone.
@Ferariiman What´s the name of the song at the first 15 seconds besides the lovely V10s xD
Fantastic save by Mika.
God these cars sounded so good. Where did all the magic go?
The pinnacle of F1 in my book - 3.0L n.a. V10 was the best formula period… hail Hakkinen and West McLaren Mercedes …
Mansell didn't lose the Canadian GP because he waved. According to what I've heard, his car was experiencing a bulky downchange on his gear box. What this essentially meant was that every time he changed down he was knocking revs off his engine. This caused his engine to stall at the hairpin on his last lap
Poor Mika :< but who gives a crap he still won the title that year and the title the year after
Respect and Love for both Schumi and Mika
Ralf Schumacher finishing in third meant that Jordan had been on all three podium places in two races (after their 1-2 in Spa). Very impressive!
1:42 the original “magic” button
Can you upload the full race of monza 98 please. i loved this race. schumi at his best. also have you got the hungaroring 98 gp as well. 2 of my favourite schumacher races. schumacher at his best was untouchable :) Thanks
The best days!
LOL at Todt pulling Ralf in for a group hug at parc ferme.
So he did the rest of the race braking on his engine? Now thats impressive!
@Stegall4PM it was in the next years race, 1999 italian gp :)
It's just not the same anymore. This race was so long ago now but I just couldn't stop watching. Today's F1 I'm just not interested in.
Seeing these old clips put me off Brundle. What an envious little man he was back then. All because Schumacher beat him when they were team mates.
Spot on, he is a bitter wee rat when it comes to schumacher. The bbc made a documentry in 95 about schumi and the arrogance of brundle in it is disgusting. You would think he was a multiple world champion.
No harm done,. he went to win both champs against Michael = )
... and yeah, im Finnish and i don't speak too much either.
It is incredible how you could comfortably win a race with a 20 + gap from the runner-up.
lmao I hope you didn't watch the hybrid era
Still Hakkinen won the championship at that year and one to come (-99) and he was really the only guy to compede against Schumi at the time. Some years later team Ferrari had overpowering edge to the point when whole series was no longer interesting. Until then Alonso and Raikkonen came really in...
Charles and Max I feel could become the new Mika vs Michael, however Max is the Schumacher, Charles is the Mika, both supreme, but one having the perfect storm in their team, car and driver combination vs a slightly less ideal combination on the other side. But both giving their absolute all at every point.
aahh lol, actually I believe the 1999 spin was the opposite of the one on my vid (which happened because of the pressure), as (if I recall correctly), he had a good lead but he relaxed too much and spun off the track
16000 rpm forward to many rpm backwards? :D Did Mclaren use a revolutionary engine back then?
Last victory for Goodyear in F1.
he's just a troll, we should ignore him. I've been watching F1 since late 1997 and although I was a big Schumi fan, i've never hated any of the other drivers (and michael had some fierce opponents back then). Hating is not for real F1 fans and F1 is not football or basketball
I really miss those days when driver just went for it.
They didn't have to worry about saving fuel or some bs power boost they just drove their balls off.
Also, this guy 7:06
You can have a fancy suit & fancy shades but nobody can look cool in a high-vis jacket
I miss the 1990's era.
I love that Murray is like WHATEVER WHATEVER when Brunddle goes into another Schumacher whine at 1:30
Indeed 100%, Same with Kimi ( Kind of ) I´m sure that Kimi could have won the title in 2010 ( and 2005 ) with Ferrari ( even tho ferrari made a mistake in the Pit Stop at Yas Marina 2010 ) if he would stay but now his back and i really hope that he will make a good Comeback and quickly get to a bigger and stronger team
Suzuka 1998 mika hakkinen vinner champion mika hakkinen
This is clearly without any doubt, a drive though penalty for hamilton.
@TheV12ferrari I've no clue, mate. But if anyone knows, feel free to post the name :p
viva mika viva
M.Schumacher- Forever! 🎉
" he doesn't seem to be able to drive around a problem"
12:00 fans of F1 97 on PS1 will think this is the bizarro universe
2 dislikes = hamilton fans
05.09 THERE HE IS THERE HE IS!
1:43
3:39 dat downshift sound amazing oh *.* ♥
come on 2001 no chance for mika, even though he had some bad luck, 2000 was his last real good chance!
1:55
Luca Badoer in the middle of the screen.
Whos Here After Georges Shunt In Imola 2020
I know exactly what you mean!
oh so the vid is from 1999? Oh I didn't knew 1998 cars were used for the 1999 italian grand prix :sarcasm:
Today, that's Maldonado's or Grosjean's Fault...
Looks like front right brake faliure in hindsight. Great years in F1
It was, he had to drive so slowly and just use engine braking to nurse it home to 4th place.
Mansell
Classic Formula One. Drivers using their raw talent instead of car aids.
Well Monza never really favored Häkkinen...or Finnish drivers in general. But especially Mika, first the brake problem in 1998 and then that terrible mistake in 1999.
Balnazzardi ...may I contradict? Monza once DID favor a finnish driver. Keke Rosberg basically became world champion in 1982 at Monza. He had to stop for a new rear wing, and while being in the pits, Alain Prost retired. Keke probably was the only man to become world champion in the pitlane. :)
TheColinChapman well maybe in that way, but Keke didnt get any points from that race either and only secured the championship in the very last race in USA.
to be absolutely precise, You are right. Alain Prost - who was considered to be the greatest threat to Rosberg's title - lost the chance to win the 1982 championship in Monza (and, by the way, so did Niki Lauda, too). In theory, John Watson still was a theoretical contender for the title in Las Vegas - but to win the title, he would have needed to win the race with Keke scoring no points, what was very unlikely. in the end, Wattie finished second, Keke finished fifth.
At least Mika Salo got a podium in 99 ;)
@@TheColinChapman keke was born in sweden...
Kimi Räikkönen set the lap record at monza
lol ya
hehe cheers :D
megalos odhgos o hakkinen alla kai atyxos ,kai gia ths sezon 1998-2002 me ton sumacher kanane tous kalyterous agwnes gia emena sthn F1 pou exw dei.polu kalo to videaki
97, 98 and 99 titles was great stole by FIA and FOM.
This was the best era of F1, l don't waste my time with today's F1 circus.
Same man
Jean todt desgraced , Fiarrari
Sorry but i agree stotheimon1.
i miss the old formula one :(
fuck the new rules with no gasoline stop..in 4 years we got the same boring stuff like stock car race..
It was hamilton's fault that mika spun off the track :P
Yeah Mika was ALWAYS better than schumi :D I don't get why Brunddle was such a fuckign ferrari fan
The Semi-F1-Fans destroyed F1. With their ""More Overtakes Crying"".
Most Football Games end with a result 1:0 or 2:1. But i never hear anyone crying, about "There are to less Goals".
But since Clueless Semi Fans cry around for years about the Overtaks in F1. Today we got KERS, DRS and other stupid Rules.
Happy now ???
u should learn to have fun mate
oh trust me, i know how to have fun and i have a lot of it... but this just isn't funny anymore...
Ferrari,-the Best!😊
The F1 is good, but it's not quite Murray Walker!!
I find Brundle quit boring as a commentator, not even close to what M. Walker was, this guy trully made you feel the passion of each moment in the race, while brundle is always calm and analyzes every irrelevant shit he sees (actually even today, when the whole bbc commentator crew is busting our balls about hamilton's godly talents and forget there's a race going on)
I'll take a commentator who analyses things - including little details - to provide insight about what exactly may be happening in things we often can't see, over someone who just yells out what I can already see on the screen and brings no informative substance to coverage, any day of the week.
@@SvalbardSleeperDistrict yup.... i have never liked Murray Walker. Martin Brundle was more professional.
this "joke" is just sooo old and - in my mind - not funny even more...
blocked for being an racist idiot. Goodbye
Murray always professional, but the other one (I don't remember the name) was really really on McLaren side, so unprofessional, as much as the Italian commentators on Sky nowadays
among the biggest cheats in f1
