Located in Kigali, the Capital City of Rwanda, the University of Rwanda is the Largest Higher Education Institution in Rwanda. The University was Established in 2013 by Merging independent institutions that trace their history back to the 1960s. Located in Dar es Salaam, the Economic Capital of Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London at that time. Later on, it became an affiliate of the University of East Africa but in 1970, the University of East Africa split into three Independent Universities: The Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. All these Universities have excelled over the years since the split and the University of Dar es Salaam wasn’t left behind either.

Located in Kampala the Capital city of Uganda, the Makerere University is the Largest and the Oldest Institution of Higher learning in the Country. The University was established in 1922 and became an independent national University in 1970. The Makerere University is made up of 9 Colleges and one school. The University has played a very important role in the development of the East African region as several important and powerful figures have passed through the institution. Some of these powerful figures include Former Ugandan president, Milton Obote, Former Tanzanian Presidents Julius Nyerere and Benjamin Mkapa, Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, and the former president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Joseph Kabila.

The University of Nairobi which is famously known as the UoN was established in 1970 even though it was an educational institution in 1956. The University has a distinction for being the most recognized University in East Africa and the first choice of most students in the country and the region. It has about 62,000 students and is one of the most innovative Universities in the Country.
Makerere is the best university in East, central and west Africa combined. The only universities better than Makerere are found in South Africa and Egypt.

I have been to UON and Makerere University of Kampala. They are equally Good Universities.
Makerere used to be cathedral of education in east Africa but overtime other universities have catch up with them.The listing is just superb.

what are the criteria that you put to ranking universities . I do not agree with you and visited deeply like various ethiopia universities like Addis ababa, Haromaya, Jimma, Hawassa, Arbaminch ,Gondar ,Mekelle & Bahirdar universities .
Makelele should be number two by now, and University of Dodoma is Number one in Africa. Soo many facilities and the biggest compasses reside there, like no any in Africa. Dodoma University occupies a city like infrastructure occupied by highly educated professors. 🎉🎉🎉🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿🌍

DSM University is the leader. Wako former Attorney General of Kenya and all the faculties of law in East african Universities are offsprings of Daressalaam University.
Makerere started in 1922 and was the go to uni for the likes of Kibaki, Ngugi wa Thingo etc but somehow this Kenyan thinks a university that’s barely 70 years beats a 100 year old institution. We will keep welcoming Kenyans to Makerere. Makerere oye

Well, in all the world university rankings I have ever seen, the University of Nairobi in Kenya has never been ranked among the top 200 in any ranking. Moreover, the University of Nairobi has never been ranked among the top 3 or 5 African universities either! On the other hand, no matter who is doing the ranking, Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, has consistently been ranked in the top 200 world-ranked African universities, the top 3 or 5 African universities and the only non-South African university to be ranked that high; not for one or two years, but for years since such sub-Saharan African university rankings have been included. Therefore, it is obvious that Makerere University is second to none in east Africa and that anyone disregarding it is either misinformed, a propagandist or both.
Your got some of your points wrong, there is no African university that ranks top 200 in the world from Africa even the best African university found in cape town south Africa ranks number 234 world wide and when it comes to the whole Africa South Africa and Egypt have the best ranking universities.
Makerere has always been ranked higher in EAC but UON currently ranks higher in some rankings though not all same to makerere but anyway both are great universities
So, what is your point? you have very little information about Ethiopia's universities. Ethiopia have 50 state owned universities, out of which 18 are very huge (60,000+ students per year) reaserch and learnining center but in your list only include AAU.
