    First beat tape I made was a love story. (Lonely fields EP) was more or less consisted of Lofi/chill
    My second beat tape (Red Tape EP) was from a place of anger. Hyper up-beat fast paced trap/rap style beats. Very heavy percussion. Proud of that one the most.
    My third beat tape (Brockhampton Series) was from a creative space I had at the time. The last beat that I made for it was the most recent attempt at recreating that same energy. and for obvious reasons was a homage for the rap group Brockhampton.
    my forth beat tape (Purple Room Dreams EP) was supposed to be an actual record. But I couldn’t record anything. Though I couldn’t really clear any samples i uploaded anyways I think that this beat tape speaks to me the most. Although the mix was shit. Every beat was a chapter in my life translated into a beat/song
    I made the three tapes around the same time. The first one I will never re-release. And I plan on making another beat tape this year!

      Hey there, im pretty new to make beat tapes, like i have this series called beats for the people, from the sloth. I've made 2 volumes.
      Volume 1 had 6 beats, and a deluxe with 8 beats (i dont even know why i did that barely anybody watches my channel lmao but i just love it). I cringe listening to this cause i put this really corny producer tag that i never used agian. Consists mostly of polo g type piano beats and guitar beats and 2 samples (i dont use samples much).
      Volume 2 was only 5 songs but much better imo.
      The thing is these only had 5 or 6 songs so I didnt have to worry too much about the order.
      Now I'm ognna put out the next volume and since its the trilogy I decided to go all out with 12 tracks. Theres different genres. Theres that familiar 2010s synth heavy rap style of beats, Smooth jack harlow type beats, a horrorocore, an edm, a sad reflective kinda beat, Drill beats and punk/rage beats. As someone whose done this, how do oyu suggest I order these.

    I just recently started to use my sp404a and your channel is incredibly inspiring and helpful.
    One question you may have received heaps of times: when collecting samples, how are you gonna be sure you can legally release the finished product? Lately copyright stuff is becoming more and more tedious for independent artists that don't have a big label that will pay for tbe rights to use those samples...
    Thanks a lot mate!

    • @BeastlyAnteater
      @BeastlyAnteater Před 3 lety +5

      Just hide the sample and don’t bother getting clearance. Only downside that can happen is the algorithm may catch copy written material if you don’t mangle it enough and/or chop it enough. Just keep creating and don’t get hung up over the copyright stuff, hip hop was built on uncleared samples

      @AnD2LPU Před 3 lety

      @@BeastlyAnteater yeah I agree about it and I love the most common use of samples. The thing that bothers me is that nowadays if you want to put music online, these algorithms can still find the origin of the sample and all of a sudden you can get sued or get your accounts suspended/canceled...and it would suck

    • @BeastlyAnteater
      @BeastlyAnteater Před 3 lety +3

      @@AnD2LPU you’re not going to get sued. IF the algorithm catches your sample you’ll get the song removed but beyond that there isn’t much punishment. I’ve had one song removed from SoundCloud and dozens that remain with non cleared samples. I only get a hundred or so plays per track tho 😂

  • @isaito789
    @isaito789 Před 3 lety

    hey man I have a question for you. I'm super intersted in taking a bunch of samples from Ryo Fukui's Scenery (I saw it in your video what is what reminded me lol). Thing is, that record has a LOT of percussion in it, especially this super snappy snare. What kind of advice do you have for sampling from stuff that's percussion heavy? The piano licks in that album are to die for but I'm concerned that the BPM of the percussion in the sample will be a lot faster than the BPM of my track and overall the percussion in the sample would fuck with the groove of my own drums. Any advice?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +3

      filter and chopping basically. Either chop around the percussion, try and filter them out with EQ or just embrace them being in the background. Sometimes it can add an interesting dynamic to your beat having a few random percussion hits in the background. Sidechain compression on the kick will help to hide stuff too.

    A couple of your points really hit on some things on my mind lately. I really hope Tracklib developed an app so i can listen/like/organize their catalogue on the go. A producer’s Spotify, if you will.
    The other thing is, I feel like I’m ready to expand a little and find a piece of gear that would complement my 303 and Ableton. Inspiration/workflow would be priority as you mentioned, but idk what might be best. I thought the Arturia Minilab mk2 would push me to learn chords and stuff, but its felt more like a chore unfortunately.
    I saw you have the Push 2, would you say you went through a similar experience in regards to finding new equipment? There’s so many options (sp404, MPC live/one/x, maschine, push, verselab, and so many others) it’s overwhelming. Do you have any advice that could make the deciding process easier?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +1

      I completely agree - its overwhelming and finding the right gear is a pain. There's a few in my collection that hardly get touched. Its the curse of being a musician/beatmaker I think - constantly buying and selling gear trying to find that sound you want. I actually have the push 1 not the 2 and it still serves me really well. Love the feel of the pads. The 2 would be a great upgrade for me at the moment as my beat making is moving towards ableton as I like the control so I've been looking at it, but not got a lot of money for new gear right now. Try and use youtube as much as you can to see what instruments/samplers can do - you have to see past the demos and try and look at the features as most of the time they are demoed using EDM haha.

    • @VeggieLard
      @VeggieLard Před 3 lety

      @@spvidz you’re right about everything being EDM, lol. I’m definitely leaning into Ableton as well. I’ll dive deeper and try and see what speaks to me. From your experience how do you think the 404 and Push would stack against each other, in the context of pairing with a 303 and Ableton, I mean. Any pros and cons come to mind?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +1

      Not a awful lot of different between those two devices tbh. People swear by the 303 MFX - they are pretty butter and if you are just running your signal through it you don't need to worry about storage space or speed either.

  • @srshwa
    @srshwa Před 3 lety

    What if you use samples in your beats for your beat tapes? You can and should still upload through distrokid/tunecore ?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +1

      technically not no - you are in breach of copyright unless you have permission to use them. What I would say though is if you are pretty low-key the chances of anything happening are pretty slim but its completely up to you if you want to risk it. I think worst case scenario for people at our level you will probably just be asked to remove them from Spotify
