UTS London Systematic oppression of women, gay people and non-believers is not a view held by the radical. It is core to Islam. The reason why Tommy speaks out against Islam and not Christianity/Catholicism, is because those are religions that the fabric of western culture was built on. There are plenty of people speaking out against grooming and homophobia within them, Tommy chooses to combat the Islamist ideology and growth within western culture because not many people will, in fear of being labelled racist, xenophobic, bigoted etc. I hold the same views on Islam as Tommy, but call me a racist all you want, but skin colour doesn’t matter to me. I'm a muslim and I do think part of this is unfair to Tommy. I dont like how he didnt really get to talk and people kept calling him names to shut him up. It just seemed so childish. I get more upset when other muslims behave that way like the Saira Khan woman. It doesnt help our reputation at all. Even as a Muslim we are taught tolerance and respect. She didnt do that with him. I personally do not see him being a racist or saying anything racist at all. He just didnt agree with islamic ideology and that's his belief. I think a better approach would have been to understand where he is coming from, let him explain his sources and then perhaps correct him with facts of you think he's not right. That's called respectful discussion and how we all learn to get along despite our differences.
