And so much better too, than what followed (especially THIS TIME and MID MORNING MATTERS). In my opinion, the former was generally poor, while the latter became so unwatchable within a very short space of time - it's like Coogan and the writers were trying too hard, and any subtlety the character had, disappeared altogether over time.
@@timsmith1278 totally agree , the following series after this one, although still good was slightly losing it's way. I don't know if Cougan ran out of ideas or whether he just got complacent but by trying to be too subtle, Alan Partridge just became unfunny.
There are two scenes where I felt genuinely sorry for Alan, this scene in the hotel foyer, and in Knowing Me Knowing You before he fires Glen Ponder where he finds out everyone went out the previous evening without him. I think anyone who has ever felt like a social outcast can relate.
There is a great extra on the DVD of the full improv scene in the car. Also commentary from the actors AND one from Alan and Lynn themselves, watching the series as if it was a documentary! They don't make extras like that anymore!
Maybe it's just me but I've always found the first part of this clip where they're sitting in the car quite dark and depressing. It's like a portrait of a man genuinely at the end of his tether. He almost seems like he's on the verge of tears when he's repeating the word 'talking' and Lynn looks genuinely concerned about him.
Partridge is a bit of a study in middle aged male divorcees. Desperately still clinging on to a structure in life, constantly trying to appear busy with things nobody cares about. Almost, convincing himself he's still attractive to women, making dysfunctional friendships with other males who've been spat out by society. It's one of the funniest comedy series ever made but it has a real sense of sadness and loneliness about it too.
Brilliant acting from Steve Coogan. What a comedy genius. I think we've all met an Alan Partridge throughout our lives. Very pedantic, self-centered, socially inept and tactless.
When Alan is closest to the camera he has his seat belt on, when Lynn is closet Alan has lost his seat belt, I have the full series on DVD but have never noticed this until now, great comedy all round.
I was a bit Alan Partridge - remember when jumpers were a thing? You'd have a collection, & maybe get one for christmas. Aah, happy days!?! Now, its all hoodies, but really, who needs that extra bit of material hanging down the back, when the hoods not actually up - I ask you - NOBODY, THATS WHO!?!
I love the way that Partridge is taken up with the trivia of life - like inertia-reel seatbelts, 'developed in the early seventies'. Not that seatbelts are unimportant, of course, but to DIScourse on them in that kind of detail, as a topic of conversation . . . a lot of the fascination of Alan Partridge seems to be his very shallowness, hollowness, and maybe the struggles which result from this. His rootlessness, bland absence of identity, living in a Travel Lodge type of place, nowhere in particular . . .
Although this show was hilarious I always felt kind of sorry for this bloke. I know he's obviously a fictional character and was the pre cursor to David Brent. The truth is there are so many sad, lonely pathetic people out there like this who underneath it all are just desperate to be liked
I was very lucky to survive a high speed crash with a lorry, and I had bruises from the airbag - and a side airbag in the I never knew existed, and lacerations from the seat belt. Glad they saved my life of course, but surprisingly nasty skin damage!
What does it say about Lynn's self esteem that she is visibly happy when a man - who is consistently horrific towards her - tells her the impression of HERSELF is 'very good'?
Actually, she played one on him. She gave him some harsh words about his impoliteness, pretending it was an impression of herself. She was glad she did it and he realised what she meant but couldn't hold it against her.
I can never look at Lynn the same after seeing a particular press photo of Felicity...and eh...it was a cold day let’s just say...she looked like she could be in Saul Dangerfields casting agency as a ‘40 year old scorcher’...
Every time I watch Partridge I'm thinking 'Jeremy Clarkson'. An inadequate under-talented Pratt who doesn't realise that people are laughing at him, not with him.
@@Realpoweronearth He used to be hilarious IMO, but even when he was still on TG the quality was dropping off. He got a big head and forgot the difference between humour and shit stirring.
The actress who plays Lynn doesn't get enough credit for the success of this show. Whatever her name is
Felicity montague
Yeah, shes great. Really owns the role. Should see her other stuff like ummm....who were we talking of?
Clutching like a mouse
She is susan boyle young sister
The irony of saying she doesn't get enough credit but not taking the literal three seconds it would take to find out her name.
love how throws the crisps on the floor hahahaha
When he swings the bag over their heads, just lol.
It was surprisingly unnerving
Topped off with that half-hearted throw of the crisp bag.
That bag swing😂😂😂
I love how Alan excludes Lynn from having a mint.
1997, Where the hell has the last 22 years gone? Love this clip and the blue sky in the scene. Easier times.
Lovely stuff!
goooodbye blue sky
Errr.... we still get blue skies you know.
kernowarty, albeit more polluted.
wasnt this more like 2001?
Why do I find "the strap's optional" so hilarious.
Can you call Bill Oddie... that's something else
There are many Alan Partridges out there.
Has anyone ever has a summer like this? Everyone's on holiday and you're stuck with nothing to do? It would drive me a bit Alan.
Fancy a pint?
Or windshield fluid ?
Yes I have had a summer like Alan's, except all year round
This is such clever comedy! Seen this a million times and still cracks me up!

In my opinion, the former was generally poor, while the latter became so unwatchable within a very short space of time - it's like Coogan and the writers were trying too hard, and any subtlety the character had, disappeared altogether over time.
It’s way better than his recent stuff which has lost its way.

"I don't think you should have one Lynn" 😂😂😂

Even the security man went 😂
Nah, he intentionally antagonizes everybody, and hurts those who try to help him. I don't think I could ever feel sorry for Alan
Yeah, this is the sort of pathos that made the Uk Office so brilliant towards the end as the main character found himself more and more sidelined
My favourite bit in this is when Lynn says "It was quite savage!" Haha
I love APs obsession with Bill Oddie...and Sue Cooke...brilliant inclusions in APs amazing mind and life.😅
Lynne is a brilliant actress. She comes from Oakwood, Leeds.
The actress who plays lynne is amazing.
Cue the unhappy zombie

I think he was just so desperately bored and without purpose that he found the word "talking" momentarily interesting.
Impact BANG lock buagh
there's a lot of pathos in Alan

This so called dark phase of Alan's life created his best era as a result.

Yeah Lynn loses her seatbelt then regains it.

Superb, top-notch humour.

i used to call a friend of mine Alan Partridge because he behaves like him

She takes the mint out of her mouth

BUSSSH !!! Perhaps? Suggestive
Love it when he lost it
Believe me Alan you don't want the experience of an air bag going off in your face. Happened to me once. Ended up with cuts to my face.
I was very lucky to survive a high speed crash with a lorry, and I had bruises from the airbag - and a side airbag in the I never knew existed, and lacerations from the seat belt. Glad they saved my life of course, but surprisingly nasty skin damage!
That bag make a Wooshing sound on my episode

I had a brother in law like Alan once, I;m not even joking. Same mannerisms and personality.
Only difference is Alan is funny. He wasnt.
Yes I know !! Many men have Alan's characteristics but with no humour.they are very self important , serious hard headed bastards tbh.
This without the laugh track would be nice.
This extended scene doesn't have a laugh track: czcams.com/video/EwPqXAny9nY/video.html
Ah, Britain before the disaster of Brexit ...
...we haven't even had Brexit yet. You're clearly very well informed on British politics.
@@zufgh Brexit is a process. In case you missed it, the UK has spent two years negotiating a withdrawal agreement from the EU ....
@@garsm2290 Yes, exactly my point. Ergo, Brexit has not happened yet. What part of that do you not understand?
Surely A (Alan) Partridge special on Brexit. Visiting Brussels, Hull, a backstop or not! and so on.
Hilariously this is a comment I could easily see coming out of Alan's mouth.

na that's the plan of the show mate hes not like real lfie soz
@@aarongorton1984 yea, Alan partridge is meant to be a stale celebrity
And on THAT bombshell, it's time to say goodbye.

I think this character was created to turn the whole world against men. Sinister.
