  • Azores Islands. They can be harvested at the shore lines at low tide, but the quantities are limited in order to allow them to produce more. They can be eaten raw, but most enjoy them baked or grilled. I always have a good time at my friends cottage..

Well that was a big disaster. I don't want to tell you what happened next ( a big clean-up) she said that it moved in her mouth and boy did lol !! it come out fast...Thankful for the comment. Please let me know if you tried it....:) PS; I gave her the money and a new dress, but I slept on the couch for one day....:)

Sorry, but to me they are tasteless, and hard to chew, like rubber.

CookingaRound Sorry if I made you upset, but I only said my honest opinion. I am sure they are great food for those who like it. I tried to fry them and still there was no particular taste, but with heavy soy sauce and cleaning them up I could eat them, but it's too much work for so little food. I would rather try a different Portuguese meal made from meat or from vegetables or of course a different kind of fish. Well, my post was all about asking how do you guys find it delicious? Perhaps you have used to it since childhood. I also never liked any seafood that reminded me of a rubber. I cleaned the lapas and I ate them and it was fine,m it just I could not detect any taste in it. They told me to put some heavy sauce on it and all I could taste was the sauce and the bread. Now fish is another matter, it's tasty, depending on a fish though. I prefer lake fish or herring prepared with onions etc. Now that's delicious :-)

+Au Tom I may be wrong but you could have overcooked them. Unless you meant they're like rubber raw, I'd try them raw before you give up entirely (they are really healthy if nothing else!) :)

The local guys were eating them lapash with all the guts, basically with its poo inside. They told me sometimes they would get stomach ache and sick from eating them entirely. Actually I did eat some raw without knowing but did not get sick. It probably wrong way to eat them boiled or fried. They must be eaten raw and only raw, right? Just without the guts, right? Perhaps with vinegar? Yet seafood never was my kind of thing, no matter whether shrimp or other sea creatures, they all are rubbery. Still, if I was to replace meat in my diet it would have to be something more than just rice and beans. Man I love fried ham, all the artery clogging good stuff, but can't eat unfort.
