I feel like Luca brought back Pixar’s charm of being just a fun and enjoyable movie. Not everything needs to have a “deep meaning”.
Isn’t luca literally a message of acceptance of different people?
@@buttercupbaby8649 yup, a very common and fairly basic meaning.
Most people don't agree with you, but I do
@@buttercupbaby8649 I mean, there's people arguing wether or not it's a gay story or something like that
I actually kinda agree
It’s a good movie. I also like how it’s a personal story. The director is Italian and he based it on his friendship growing up. I hope Pixar continues to make movies like this. More Ghibli-like.
I agree with u
it does
Also first furry
When you think about it, Luca was a better CGI Ghibli movie compared to Earwig and the Witch.
Yo the gibli comparison was spot on in a weird way
@@joshuajoe1419 Earwig and the Witch is simply patetic.
Thats what I was thinking, I like the Ghibli-like films every now and then. Simple low stakes plot
I loved how the father was disabled in a way that had no impact to the plot. He didn’t loose it in some ridiculous way, he didn’t have to be disabled for the plot, he was just born that way and it’s only briefly talked about. He’s shown as just another guy who is more than capable of doing stuff with one arm. I love that representation! I also was relieved that he wasn’t somehow “fixed” with movie bs haha! Now we just need a well executed disabled Disney Princess!
Right?!
Exactly! I've seen and also read so many award winning literature novels with the trope of unnecessary disabling and handicaps. Such an underrated thing.
He wasn't born like that. A sea monster bit it off
@@ThomasMarioFan_11 No, he was born with it. He says that a sea monster ate it off as a joke, but then laughs and says that he was just born that way.
There was also a kid in a wheelchair in the background during... I think it was the celebration scene after the race? And no one treated them differently
But yeah, I also loved that about the dad
I absolutely loved Luca's plot. Not everything needs to be high stakes. Sometimes growing up is enough conflict. Reminded me of Whisper of the Heart or Kiki's Delivery Service. When humans have to struggle every day just to be treated equally to other humans, it's honestly so soothing to see a world where differences ARE accepted easily. Watching Luca was like a vacation for my brain.
Literally the town‘s name in Luca, Porto Rosso is not only a real place but the Director actually based on the title of studio Ghibli film’s Proco Rosso for the movie!!! About a half man half pig who’s a Air Pilot and his life that takes place in Italy in during the 1930s and it’s a good film to watch and I recommend it !!! And the end credits and song sounded like it would belong to a Studio Ghibli’s film!!! Also the cat falls in love with another cat and they both have kids that are shown in the credits. Just how Jiji (the cat from Kiki’s Delivery service) does towards the end of the movie and in the end credits as well! Also like the animation, friendship/some of the characters, and ending that expands their lives in the credits as well it’s so cute!!! The Director was really inspired of Studio Ghibli to make this film and I’m really happy that he did!!! And people say that anime won’t get you nowhere, doesn’t give you Influence or life lessons and so on!!!! Take that people!!! All in all not my favorite film but it’s very sweet and brings out the director’s loves from his childhood and inspiration to this film. 7 out of 10 for me!!! 😁💕

It has real plot, real jokes, and actual relatable human characters. This is one of my favorite movies. Stupid kids movies patronizing their audience. One of the things I like most about this movie is that they don't make it a huge deal about Massimo's missing arm instead of just giving him a tragic backstory about it they just move on with plot.
To me that's a good example on how to show representation without shoving it into our faces. You can still have good diverse representation with show and not tell.
Omg Yes!
YEAH, and I was suprised: I expected a big plot point there. BUT mayyybe that was part ofthe story: don't jump to conclusions haha.
Ye man, I liked that it was just the way he was born and nothing more that’s was wonderful!
I love the positive representation with Massimo, like him, lots of people have missing or useless limbs, either they lost them or they were just born like that, and yet this doesn't stop them at all and they still live life normally like anyone else. :)
I especially love the detail of that just being how he was brought into the world.
Im pretty sure everyone accepted the sea monsters so quickly because whenever they thought of "SEA MONSTERS" (based off all the imagery in town) they expected these huge animals like Nessie or The Kraken, so whenever they saw these harmless children it was a shattering of their expectations. Other than that tho, it's a lighthearted movie, i like that its happy n soft like that 😖💕
Indeed. And, as we saw through most of their time in town, everyone saw Luca and Alberto hanging out with Giulia and her dad. It's a small town where everyone knows each other, and Massimo is well known and respected. As soon as he says the boys are "good" everyone backs away.
yeah and i am assuming the great majority, if all of the town hadn't seen sea monsters before and THAT was their first impression. For me I don't think the town accepted them too quickly, i found their acceptance pretty logical.
I mean not everyone accepted them. The fisherman just scoffed and left because they were intimidated by Massimo. Kinda glad they didn't, because it was more realistic
@@jayy17783 yes that's true.
Also they saw how the parents were woried for their son and that they are an actual family who`s main goal isnt to terrorise humans
I would kill for a Luca sequel. They have a ton of material still to work with (like where Alberto’s father went, Luca going to school, etc). The story didn’t feel “incomplete” or anything, but it left me wanting more.
they said that if they were doing a sequel, it would probably be about the underdogs trying to get giulia's parents together, or like an uncle ugo spin-off (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luca_(2021_film)#Future)
@@hkbbgs let’s hope they don’t butcher it
yeah same
I'd like a series of sequel shorts about the characters lives, maybe a short about Luca going to school, a short about Massimo and Alberto doing father-son stuff, etc
ngl it feels like it would end up using the same disney sequel formula.
The main catalyst for their acceptance of the monsters was Guilia’s father, a well known sea monster hunter, protecting them. Plus the two old ladies who no doubt lived in their town for decades revealing themselves. That got all the women on their side. If sea monsters lived among them that long and never attacked them it’s hard to justify hunting them down. It wasn’t just “Okay I guess we’re cool now”
Luca's parents concern for their son helped too.
@@ToxicGriever Ooh yes, there was obvious concern there. It's hard for your average person to just harpoon a loving family.
not to mention they know luca and alberto from the days they spent in the town
I really got the impression that it's a very small town. like about 75 to 100 people total and everyone knows each other. when the reveal happened and these evil man eating monsters went to help Giulia and then was confirmed to be those weird runaways, defended by the most anti sea-monster person in the village, the image people had of what those sea-monsters were shattered.
Except not everyone accepted them. If you noticed that after the sea monsters revealed themselves, someone scoffed and walked away.

I'm Italian, so you're welcome, I guess
You should come and see. After COof of course.
@@heinskaal No.
As an Italian, at first I was afraid that they would dive into stereotipes. But they did not. And the very few that were put in it, weren't generalizing our culture but were actually educational (for example they were very specific with the pasta dish because the "trigliette al pesto" are very tipical of the zone where the movie takes place). I also like the fact that there were some italian actors and a loooot of italian sentences and people just having a normal conversation in italian instead of it being just like "Ciao! Grazie! No! Mamma mia! Pasta! Bellissimo"
And about the story: I liked the simplicity of it. No twists, no emotionally devastating moments.. just a pure and fun italian Summer. I have read a lot of people comparing the old Pixar movies with Luca and them getting upset of it's simple nature. But honestly? It's good for a Company to change once in a while: experimenting what else they can do and how to do it. They tried it with this movie and they succeded. I really liked it

“Wait a second i know y- HOLY SHIT ITS THE DAD FROM CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS FUCK YEAH!”
He literally feels like he was ripped off from there, the big mustache, surly look, the fact his eyebrows cover his eyes... I guess touche, since that movie stole a lot of character designs from Pixar.
he somehow looks like hes made of rocks and balloons at the same time
The best scene of the movie is when the parents just started to assault kids with water lmaooooo
YES THAT MADE ME CRACK UP
IKR
YES
No, the best part was when they tried to offer drinks and the kids wouldn't go anywhere near them with liquid.
That part made me laugh but also distracted me. Like they can't tell male from female? It's believable I suppose. It guess it would be difficult to tell male fish from female fish with no experience.
But why would they approach the situation the way they did? Exposing Luca or Alberto with a water balloon would mean an excruciating death. Why not just play it off as if you are looking for a kid who ran away? I guess the movie would have been over too quickly or they didn't know what to do with the parents??
But that's all I've got. This is a great movie. The small details only distracted me for a few moments and then I let them go. The real story is about Luca and Alberto. The other real story is about how much money Alberto and Mossimo made while fishing.
Favorite joke in the movie:

I felt like the resolution was ok. Like when the biggest town was like "I'm ok with sea monsters now" nobody was gonna risk throwing their harpoon/net cause of the potential wrath that guy could unleash. Also he was probably one of the most respected people in town
The appearence of the sea "monsters" also played a big part of the humans accepting them. Monsters are big bad and scary. They are small, not scary and friendly. It was a visual subversion of expectations.
@@kanemartin2249 yeah
Also because two sea monster women had been living in the town among them for decades without anyone knowing they were sea monsters. That caused everyone to realize, “Hey, two well-loved and respected women live in our town with us and are sea monsters, and haven’t hurt us.” Also the idea that Giulia(?)’s dad was an avid sea monster Hunter and accepted them easily because of the impact they made, the humanity they showed, and the fact that they posed no threat. Any other reaction to the sea monsters would’ve been unnecessary, unbelievable, and inhumane.
I think it had more symbolism behind it than most people realize. One of the last lines being the whole “not everyone will accept him, but he’s good at finding the ones who will” is like really good to show acceptance and giving people a chance.
And the best is that works hella good for everything. Neurodivergency, ethnicities, lgbt+, teen issues or even difference between economical classes... it's so ambiguous that lets everyone identify with it in their own ways, which i love

Something I really like is the "what character wants" vs "what character needs" thing. Both Alberto and Luca want a Vespa, to have the freedom to go anywhere. What Luca really needs is a chance to learn and experience new things (and his parents finally allow him to do that even though it'll take him far into the unknown out of their reach, allowing him the chance to actually spread his wings) and Alberto needs someone in his life who will be there for him, values him, wants him around, and will go after him in concern when he runs away (Massimo filling this role, which is especially touching that he is the first to speak in defense of the boys, because he was so vehement of killing sea monsters to start with, although both Luca and Giulia are also important bonds to him)
That’s why I find the ending so satisfying. Luca gets to satisfy his curiosity and learn more about the world, and Alberto gets the stability and affection he needs from a parental figure. It’s super sweet.
Did anyone realize that Alberto kinda sounds like Sokka from Avatar, to the point that both voices actors are named Jack

The "smallness" of the story I think was deliberate: this was about kids on summer vacation in Italy, and it ending when summer ends. The biggest threats are your parents sending you away to keep you from bad influences, or having another kid even more naive then you hero-worship you because you're confident and he doesn't know better, and feeling threatened when his scope broadens and he starts to learn more then you. Or the biggest danger being the one older kid who's petty and loves his authority as a bully.

The town people feared the sea monsters because of legends and sayings. When Luca and Alberto are revealed as "sea monsters", the people were in panic because of the fear of the unknown. Even Massimo (Giulia's Father) was one ready to harpoon them if they were going to harm Giulia, but the same moment he recognized them as the boys who were so friendly to Giulia, he immediately told everyone to be cool with them. So everyone that may have known this strange two kids knows them by what they are inside, not what they appear, and so they are more than welcomed. Really appreciated that. I really appreciated a lot of clichè NOT being played in this kind of story. Loved when Giulia discovered the truth about Alberto and Luca: surprise, not fear. And the next scene, when Giulia discover's also Luca identity, no screams, no "go away", but simple "why you didn't trust me?".

Everytime I see Alberto and Luca on screen, my heart melted. They were absolutely precious. I watched this movie twice and cried at the exact same spots I did before. For such a simple story, Pixar really gave us some great characters to be connected to, especially Alberto.
I like how the movie didn’t get into any romance at all with the kids, not even any of the cliche “Lovebirds” name calling between any of the three, it’s just a story about 3 friends helping each other win a competition. It’s nice & fresh to see that, platonic friendship with no complications. Before anyone mentions this, I know people are shipping the kids but that’s fine, people do that all the time even with platonic friendships. SoI don’t really care if they think it’s cute & don’t hurt anyone (and don’t make any alarming content with them) then again, that’s fine.
Though to me, it does feel weird to see people shipping children

The creators confirmed it was not meant to be gay in any way. People are projecting on the film, despite the standard friendship dynamic that is seen in many movies of the same medium. Boys can just be friends. Getting jealous over losing a friend doesn't mean you're gay. And the sea monster stuff doesn't suit for an allegory either because of how it structures the family being also sea monsters.
...why the fuck are people shipping children. Jesus Christ.
@Moon Tav the director himself said its a not a gay romance-.

like, the film knew what it was, it didn't try (and fall short of) making some big, whole, thought-provoking message that gets lost in the weeds, and it felt very grounded/realistic despite the sea creature aspect. there's a lot of interpretation for the audience to relate to the "outcast" aspect that makes the film very relatable (whether it's about race, religion, queer, etc.)
i was also relieved there wasn't any sort of "twist villain" element either bc imho there's a time and place for those, and disney/pixar has beaten that into the ground at this point they should be on a cooldown for that la;kjsdf;aljksd
Yea we wouldnt want a huge message to be stuck in the sea weed in a so small-scale video. Well its stupid with these puns but im on a wave and they arent really puns either. Anyways nice comment. Now im gonna go and sleep

Saberspark: the only person in the world who can review Cruella in three seconds.
Personally, they should have added a few scenes of Alberto and Massimo(Giulia's dad) during the quick montage. Massimo started to see Alberto as a son, but they didn't show it.
To all the commenters who keep saying "The director confirmed this is not an lgbt+ movie", the director in a online interview also said that he was okay with people interpreting it as a lgbt coming out movie. Even if it's a movie about friendship it's ok to also see this movie as a queer allegory.
It's really hard not to see at as a fitting allegory. I mean being different in some way can make you feel isolated but normally it's an opressed minority group that faces the more extreme reactions of being the other.
@@gaybatgosqueak the “some people will never accept him, but some will” quote is very much something that can be easily seen as relating to the LGBTQ+
Beautiful thing about interpretation! It’s always subjective and you can read into basically anything as long as you can back it up.
I refuse to believe it's not gay with that wink at the end
You people want everything to be gay
The scene when Luca called Alberto a monster, I felt on a personal level.
Like, when your only friend turns against you to fit in with your bullies.
Honestly its a very unexpected twist. Usually that chiche is used to further the plot on how one friend becomes the villain and always the secondary character, never the main. Well maybe sometimes but one betrayal that could kill their friend is definitely not something they use on a main character and hero of the story. It got me and my sisters and cousin.
I was deeply hurt. I felt betrayed, I honestly didn't expect that
It was heartbreaking
I felt more betrayed by Alberto trying to out both of them. That's a complete betrayal in of itself.
Especially because it was done out of jealousy and self interest, and it could have gotten both of them killed.
@@anna-flora999 i agree. What was he supposed to do? He wanted to go to school, so he cant be revealed. Idk why everyone thinks that he was the betrayer.
Edit: accidentally said “whats” instead of “what”. Corrected the typo.
The director: This isn't a gay story.
Fans: Then, let's make it like that.
Edit: Whoa dude, that's a lot of replays 😅
Cause it really is
People arguing over whether or not it's gay makes it hard for me to like the movie. They care way too much about a cartoon character's sexuality. I'm talking about both the people who say he's straight and the people who say he's gay. It's ridiculous and pointless to care so much. Idc what people ship, just the fact that they're fighting about it.
@@whateveryouremadatmeforido5497 Yeah, such fights annoy me too... I mean, can’t just these ppl enjoy their own ships and don’t force anyone to like them to?!
@@whateveryouremadatmeforido5497 See comments like this annoy me. They provide nothing of substance but whining. First, whether or not you like a movie should have nothing to do with ships, sexuality, etc. It should only depend on you personally liking the movie. Nobody else's opinion of a movie should impact how you feel about it. Secondly, the reason people want an lgbtq story or lgbtq characters has to do with the lack of those characters in media. And if we're talking about Disney that amount is nearly zero. So not only is it important to push for such representation but to hold Disney accountable when they refuse to tell these stories but turn around an say "buy our rainbow merchandise cause we support you"
@@gaybatgosqueak Hey, I'm complaining about the ones who fight for him to be straight too. Wanting representation doesn't bother me, fighting with strangers on the internet who didn't write for the movie about the sexuality of a character neither of them own or can change in canon bothers me. Also, don't tell me why I should or shouldn't enjoy a movie 😤
I loved the movie! I especially like how the father was born without an arm, but they didn't really focus on it. Instead of like, losing the arm in an epic way like fighting a sea monster or something, they kept it simple and simply had that he was born without it and it didn't much impact on the film. A really good way to represent disabilities.
This felt like a studi ghibili film in the best way so wholesome great art style might make it to my top ten Pixar ?- ALSO LANDSCAPES WERE SO NICE LIKE THEY USED THEIR GOOD DINOSAUR PASSION AND PUT IT INTO THIS TOO
It really did! Watched it with two friends and we all thought of that comparison too
The name of the town was based off of Porco Rosso
@@littlecharizard426 yes and no: the inspiration is there, but mainly it came from the name of two Ligurian villages named Porto Venere and Monterosso
This movie was flat out amazing the colors, the story, the characters, it’s got it all ngl but what I loved the most was how different it was compared to majority of younger bases movies . Where it all seems to have the same plain and basic story where you already knows what happen next .. this was played out much differently
Another similarity I found with “The little mermaid” is between Alberto and Scuttle. Like Scuttle, the sea gull, Alberto also gives false information to the protagonist about the human world, and both of them consider themselves experts despite the fact that, well, they’re not. Only that in “Luca” this becomes an a point of dramatic tension, whereas with Ariel is mostly played for gags.
The town: sea monster
Me: adorable fish boi
Saberspark: sea boi
****SPOILERS****
I love the credits, the little illustrations made the already satisfying ending even more satisfying, it wasn't 100% up to your imagination it showed the relationship between the dad and Alberto and the school being accepting to luca, it was so cute and better than a sequel would be 100%
Agreed, I almost cryed seeing albero happy and being accepted, the thing he wanted the most, so cute and wholesome!
I loved “meeting” Giulia’s mom in the end credits.
I'm just hoping the eventual artbook has a bunch of sketches that look like that. I LOVED that.
I kind of liked how quickly the town changed their minds about the sea monsters. They had tales about sea monsters, sea monsters are supposed to be scary even if they didn’t believe in the stories. But the big scary monsters are two little boys that have been biking around town and can’t speak Italian very well. And there are the parents who were just worried about their son, just like they would be, and turns out a couple of neighbours and a person they see every weekend are also sea monsters. It’s pretty easy to change your mind when you face whatever you were scared of and it’s nothing
Can we also acknowledge the two old sea monsters that came out of hiding at the end. Like, really? If that wasn't just straight up an obvious play right there.
Luca felt like a Pixar short, and I honestly loved that simple feel.
To be honest Luca reminded me more of finding Nemo, I think it really embodied the mood of the early 2000’s 3D animation movies of how they just fit together nicely and give us a great story
Honestly I didn't read it as the town just being ok with it, at least at first. They were just more afraid of Julia's father than they were of the seamonsters, so followed his lead until they got to know them properly themselves.
I don’t know but this movie already feels nostalgic and timeless, it has that magic that is just so charming and heart-warming
True lol. I watched it yesterday and feel like it's been a decade.
@@XueHuaPiaoPiao69 same, when i finished and found out it was realised like a couple weeks ago i was shocked
Onwards aged like milk, it's been one year(?) and feels extremely old yet in the worst way possible.
Luca, in the other hand, feels nostalgic from the very start, and i'm sure years won't affect this movie's quality, quite the opposite, as you said, this movie feels timeless, a true future clasic for Pixar.
I absolutely love the thumbnail change, an excellent revenge story
This movie clicked with me emotionally, in a way Soul simply couldn't
Same, I feel like modern pixar films are trying too hard to be deep & relate to an older audience.
When I eventually saw inside out, after people had been raving about it I was sooo disappointed. I didn't relate to inside out on an emotional level at a & it didn't make any points which made me think about things differently or bring up ideas I've never thought of before, it felt like it was trying too hard but I just found it boring.
More adults should realize they can relate to a film aimed at kids & animation in general, rather than only letting themselves see things deemed socially acceptable for adults to consume. I think a lot of the praise of pixar films comes from people who don't actually watch a lot of animated films. Like all those people who got into twilight who weren't already into the vampire/fantasy genre, so overappreciated aspects from Twlight which were pretty generic & mundane.
Luca was a really refreshing film that I appreciated on many levels. I really hope Pixar tried to shrink/focus their story telling down to a smaller scale like this in the future.
Honestly touched me more than the previous movie releases

I thought it was so cute that Alberto got a father figure in his life again after his dad left 🥺❤️
It really felt like it was trying to capture the magic of what it was like to have childhood friends and going on adventures and just having fun.
The father allowed them here because he saw how they acted human for a while and trusted them. The others were a little discouraged when he said that, but they could've made a bit of "secret racism" with some of the village folk a little more aggressive or plotting or something out of fear.
Eh I just assumed they’re either cool with it or just need to adjust since they’re confused. Like Luca and Alberto have at least been around the town to be known there(like the kids watching Luca’s bike progress and rooting for him when he starts to get it down right). Plus there’s also those two old ladies that reveal themselves at the end and the grandma who says she goes to the surface every weekend to play cards, some of the townspeople must’ve known them for years for however long those old ladies been living there or how many times the grandma visits. Basically what I’m saying is they come to a conclusion that “Okay, they be living around us for a while and done nothing wrong or harm anyone while here, so they’re good”, still probably needs adjusting to it, just quiet about it.
How can you not talk about the best character in the movie

i love this movie. it’s so adorable, literally everything about it makes me happy.
. I also love the small, but meaningful scenes that have impact on the characters such as Alberto saying to Luca "You got me off my island," Giulia showing Luca her books on outer space, and Massimo being a father figure to Alberto.
In the credits between the little drawings that appears there's one where Giulia is showing Luca a drawing and that drawing is of a character named "Topo Gigio" (Gigio the mice), who's was a popular character target at kids in those years! As an Italian, these little easter eggs made me love the movie even more
Topo Gigio was very popular in Mexico too! Never knew it was from Italy
I have a theory that Alberto's father was named Bruno and he probably got killed by the townspeople which created the whole sea-monster panic
I thought the simplicity of this film was refreshing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the surprise twists Pixar usually does, but this was a nice easy change and it was effective and worth it.
Uncle Ugo had a post-credits scene also. Voiced by Sascha Baron Cohen.
Hold up, Ugo is voiced by the same guy who voiced King Julien from Madagascar?!
I knew nothing about this movie, and loved every bit of it. It was so simple fun and straight to the point.
ikr!
5:14 he's like the father from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs!
Luca and Alberto are "just friends" bro.
"My friend smells amazing." Best line.
A lot of people think that the plot is like an allegory for coming out, since Luca is more or less himself underwater, but he’s completely human on the surface, at the part where Alberto reveals himself to be a sea monster it’s literally him coming out and not being excepted! Not to mention Alberto outed himself instead of Luca, but Luca acted like he was scared so no one would point fingers. I think you get the point. Yes none of the theories have been proven true but to my knowledge they haven’t been proven wrong either.
Yeah, I think even the director said that while it wasn't supposed to be a story with a gay narrative, he could see why people could think that, and honestly I can see it too. I also got immigration undertones from them crossing their world to the human world and others making them feel like outcasts. I guess the joy in this movie is it's ability to be interpreted, with many people of different cultures and communities can bond over. While I am not part of the LGBTQ+ community, I have great respect for what they want to do and accomplish for more representation, just like how many cultures are doing as well. I think, in the end, this movie is really a great example of how interpreting something can make it so much more personal and take your enjoyment of it to a whole other level. :)
Coming out as straight, maybe. I admit there is a LOT of gay sub-text in the imagery and dialogue between Luca and Alberto in the first third of the film or so, but after that, he meets Gulia and quickly prefers her world to Alberto's (even leaving him behind to go with her in the end).
@@IDontWantThisStupidHandle i mean,,i personally think Luca is bisexual,but that's just my opinion

That’s how I feel as a Mexican watching coco in English it feels strange lol
@@amai2653 I swear, that's what I immediately thought, "is it like that for the other movies too?"
Like, one of the most uncanny things was that they sometimes use Italian actors that speak good in Italian and with an accent in English and sometimes they use English actors that speak weird in Italian and good in English, so my brain could never say "ok this is a good movie" or "ok this is a cringe fest" because it would constantly switch between the two, specially when the main characters decide to drop in a random Italian word while talking in English, they would have this sweet moment about not being too scared and then out of nowhere they just start saying "silenzio Bruno" in that weird accent and I'm like "wtf"
Also the other thing is that there actually seemed to be a lot of research into this movie, there are a lot of Italian lingo and things besides pasta and pizza that were included, but combined with the weird accents that just makes me feel like the TV screen is a mimic that is trying to lure me in to bite my head off

Hey Saber! Ready to hear what you thought of these two swimmy boys.
The plot, while simple, was really good. It felt quiet, down to earth. It reminded me of my time as a child, and I think that's the point. It *feels* like summer break, like running around on the beach and eating cold gelato on a hot afternoon. Then of COURSE, Pixar turns on the waterworks. That ending felt *so* real to me. My best friend moved in middle school, and we only got to see her over summer break usually. I adore this movie, it's definitely up there as one of my favorite Pixar movies to date, specifically because of the down to earth nature of the plot.
