  • Time to unbox, fondle, and discuss this brand new carbon steel Mora Garberg!
    Is there a more versatile all-in-one bushcraft/survival fixed-blade knife out there? Seriously, I’d love to know.
    After a friend let me handle his Mora Garberg I was pretty surprised at just how much better this knife is than the already outstanding $10-20 Morakniv Companion Knife.

    When I was unboxing my first Garberg knife I was pulling it out from handle and I had a most unusual experience. Right away I knew that this knife was special. For the money it simply cannot be beat. A very close second would be the mora bushcraft black.

    There are some serious survivalist here on CZcams that choose this as their one “end of the world “ knife. There isn’t much you can’t do with this knife in the woods. If you want to see some of those things and you don’t already know about the channel, watch some of Ranger Survival and Fieldcraft videos. He’s a US army ranger and anyone could learn from him. It’s definitely a serious survival knife.

    I have two lol. I got one neaely new from an auction, fell in live and had to have a brandnew one. I dint know why, tge other one is still razor-sharp, no damage and the sheath and handle are perfect! Its so good i dont know jf ill ever need to open the new one, lol. If you have a diamond stone or ceramic stone and strup, your good for a VERY longtime. Ive bad hundreds of knifes in my life and destroyed then all pretty fast, knufes at way higher price points , but this one is special.
    I actually have the tactical one. Same knife, just larger but like half an inch, it has a flimt and an inch wode diamond stone on the front. Not much different, just a bit bigger and the stone lol, its suppose to be tougher , but i think its just a beefed up tang.
    I bave idea why j had never geard of mkra blades before. Honestly i probably wpuld have thought ut was trash because it was cheap and in plastic sheaths. Im kearning so much about knives since then.

    Alternative to this knife? Tarava Jaakaripuukko. And its kissing cousin the Finnish Ranger knife, the Sissipuukko. Also, an easy way to ward off rust from your carbon steel blades. A little Chapstick works wonders. It's food safe too.

    • @Darrenski
      @Darrenski Před 4 měsíci

      I recently watched a video that tried out several different corrosion preventing methods on high carbon steel (1095 I think it was). Mineral oil was easily the worst, and pretty much next to useless as I couldn't see much of any difference between that and bare untreated steal. He tried WD40 (better but still not good), food oil etc. and by far the best product, and the cheapest, which resulted in almost zero corrosion was good old 3in1. Obviously not your best choice for food prep, but a scandi for food prep is never gonna be great anyway. I'd suggest a garberg paired with a small opinel or folder for food prep and you're good to go.

    What are best full tang knives that you recommend ?

    • @HardOnGearChannel

      -Medium size: ESEE 3 or 4 Becker BK2 Campanion
      Large Size: ESEE 5, 6, or Junglas
      Honestly, if you want “the best” full tang fixed blades, ESEE is where you should probably put your money. They have some of their knives in S35vn as well if 1095 carbon steel isn’t your thing. Plus, their warranty is unrivalled.

    The Garberg is the best knife for the money, and shoots way above its price range. The steel is very good…. Not great (like a CPM3V would be). However, the type of steel and edge geometry are perfect for eachother

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před 2 lety +1

      It’s definitely up there on my list. The love the 1095-like high carbon they use, but like you eluded to, it’s great for hard use bush craft knives… and not much else lol.
      I still need to try some 3V so I can know how awesome it is for myself, because people freaking love it.

      @@HardOnGearChannel honestly, I’ve had about 10 knives with CPM3V. Lt Wright does it exceptionally well, as does bark river. Those two prob have the best. If you wanna get into it cheap- benchmade does it pretty well too. But go for an LTWK Genesis 3v scandi. As a fellow Garberg user (and lover) I can say it’s the upgrade that you want!!!!(but probably don’t need). All that said. I use my carbon Garberg more than anything. It’s my favorite handle

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před rokem

      I don’t know if it’s quite rubbery, but it’s grippier than pure plastic. It’s mostly just texturing I believe, but I’ve never had issues keeping a grip on it. The grip is nothing compared to the rubber on say… a Cold Steel SRK.
