  • Neurologist, Jeffrey Gelblum, MD of First Choice Neurology talks about the new Alzheimer's drug approved by the FDA on Monday, June 7, 2021. Biogen's aducanumab is the first-ever drug to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and treat mild cognitive decline.
Alzheimer's Disease is a type of dementia-causing problems with memory loss and other cognitive abilities. Symptoms usually develop slowly and worsen over time. In the early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer's, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation. Alzheimer's disease is progressive, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years.

Thank you for clarifying this information in a manner that is easily understood. Wish my mum lived in the US to give it a try.

If the FDA approved this drug they can pay for it. We the seniors are against paying higher premiums to Medicare. As it is seniors are already paying higher premiums for Medicare. We worked for our old age and why should we keep paying higher premiums for a drug that a company is interested on making money. They should have it on a trial basis for those who can afford to pay for it and it should not involve all seniors to pay higher premiums. They just want to shaft all seniors into paying more even if they are not suffering from this illness.
