Good reaction - the first song you heard was co-written (the guitar arrangements) by DragonForce - that is the only song they were involved with. BABYMETAL have about 50 songs and all of them are different. I think they were using a 9 string guitar for this one.
'Starlight' is the first of three songs that end the third album and they are referred to as the "Trilogy of Lights" representing the stages of mourning we go through.
'Starlight' is about the initial grief or anger. It is also considered by most (although this has never been said by anybody associated with the band or officially confirmed) as a tribute to Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka (RIP) who tragically died in January 2018 after falling from an observation deck where he had been stargazing. The lyrics certainly fit. The soft part in the middle you said you liked:
"Wherever you are we'll be with you.
    We'll never forget shining starlight
Wherever you are live in my heart.
    We'll never forget shooting star.
Wherever you are we'll be with you.
    We'll never forget shining starlight
Wherever you are live in my heart.
    We'll never forget shining star."
The song and video were also released on the same day in October 2018 that one of the girls, Yuimetal, announced that she would be leaving the band - she last appeared on stage in October 2017 and missed shows in December that year and all of the 2018 tour for undisclosed health reasons, so some people think it may also pay tribute to her.
The Trilogy of Lights may also be representative of the year they had in 2018 with Mikio's death and Yui's absence and eventually leaving and how they are now moving on.
'Shine' is the second song of the trilogy and represents acceptance and coming to terms.
'Arkadia' is the last song and represents looking to the future and brighter things to come.
The best versions of all three songs can be found on the Babymetal Reactor Resource channel (all live performances with English subtitles, but please read the descriptions for alternative links as these have a transparent logo so they can be used for reactions without being blocked)

This is the start of the Trilogy of Lights. The other 2 songs Shine and Arkadia both show off just how much Babymetal brings to the table. I think you'd really like both of those songs as well

Babymetal made a conscience decision with the latest album, Metal Galaxy, to leave the old style behind and forge a new Babymetal. There were many reasons for it, one being the change in lineup, now only being two instead of three, and of course, the girls are now young women so they want to convey that maturity in the songs. This album explores and mixes genres from around the world. Celtic, Spanish, Indian, and more. More than ever they won't be constrained to one genre of music, and are not afraid to try new things, which is their strength, since they have the talent to pull it off.
As far as song writing and the musicians on the studio albums, there are many different contributors. They have separate teams writing and recording the music, and the actual names are rarely known. For live performances they have the Kami Band, but those are not the artists that wrote or performed the songs on the studio recordings, with only a few exceptions.

This is from their third album, Metal Galaxy. The first song you heard from them, Road of Resistance, was one of the first songs from their second album, Metal Resistance. In general though, their first two albums are actually heavier than Metal Galaxy. I recommend checking out Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan or Headbanger live at Legend 1997 as good places to start with their first album.

It’s both right and wrong when you are talking about a direction they are going. They have certainly developed, but in between songs like this one you might find one that would have fit just as well on the first album. There’s just a really wide spectrum of genres and subgenres that they are covering.
Starlight is probably a tribute to their guitarist Mikio, who died in 2018 at age 36 after an accident on an observation tower while stargazing. That gives it even more of an impact for fans. It’s the first part of the „Trilogy of Light“, which deals with different stages you are going through when mourning a lost loved one. The second song, „Shine“, is probably my favourite on the album, and pretty different once again. I would imagine that you’d like it as well.
The BABYMETAL crew includes hired dedicated songwriters, choreographers, instrumentalists and more. Metalheads often hold that against them for being not TRVE, but I think the result proves them right. Everyone only does what they do best, and I think that shows.

While Babymetal has certainly evolved over the last decade, I don't think you've heard enough songs to actually pick up on the trend. The heaviness certainly isn't new. Just listen to the very first track of their very first album; "Babymetal Death". It will make "Starlight" sound like a sweet little lullaby in comparison. Babymetal is just so ridiculously versatile and varied that you can listen to 40 songs and still be shocked by the 41st.
Just for fun, I ran an experiment on one of my metalhead brothers. I said I had a playlist of 7 Japanese metal songs I wanted him to listen to, which he gladly did. He quickly ranked them and broke them down by subgenre. Loved a few, hated one, respected them all. But never once did he guess that all songs were from the same band.

Oh I still remember your Road of Resistance reaction video, it was one of the best ones I've seen.
I'm pretty sure it has been commented already, but Starlight is a goodbye song in the last album for two of their members: Yui who was one of the three girls and got injured so she couldn't continue performing, and Mikio Fujioka, who was one of their two guitar players and passed away on an accident when he fell from an observation deck. Both of them were astronomy aficionados who loved looking at the stars. Starlight is the first song of a set of three who are meant to be how the band feels about this matter, each one representing a stage of grief. Starlight is a goodbye and shows the pain of Babymetal. Then next goes Shine and Arkadia.
They play with two guitars on live shows, and it is usually performed by three guys who change between concerts. It is Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus and the late Mikio Fujioka. Lately they have incorporated also Isao since Mikio passed away. On studio guitars are played by different people.
The songs are written by a songwriting team in Amuse, but they are overseen by Kobametal, who is Babymetal's producer. The guy who came with the idea of this band and oversees everything. Some songwriter said that he even made Megitsune go back to rewrite some things in the songs 80 times until he thought it was perfect.

Like everyone has said before; if there is one thing common about Babymetal songs, it's the complete lack of commonality.
They always have some pretty heavy component. They always have exceptional musicianship. The are always a great show. (Not that I've ever been to any, sadly.)
But if you 'expect' anything of them, the you simply haven't heard the rest of what they have created. And realised that there is no 'normal' Babymetal.
There are about 6-8 songs which are regularly requested, and rightly so. But are they the _best_ or _representative_ songs? For me, no.
I have had a UK supermarket microwaved chicken tika masala. And dined in a hotel restaurant in Mumbai. So now I understand completely all Indian cuisine, right?
    Of course I don't.

Yup, the guitar is pretty low here: in this song it's the first time they used a 9-stringed guitar!
You are impressed at their changes? It's because you only heard a few songs of theirs: every song they make is different! They have 50+ songs and you will struggle to find 2 that are similar :D
If you dig these low sounds, you might want to watch "Karate" live at dowload 2016, or "BxMxC" official MV.

RIP Mikio. Guardian Angel of BabyMetal. Taken too early. Never to be forgotten. To many, Starlight is a song for Mikio, one of the guitarist of Kami Band (BabyMetal’s backing band) who died when he fell off an observation tower. Mikio loved to stargaze. Starlight is one of those songs that is held by The One (name for fans of BabyMetal) in a special place in our hearts.
BabyMetal never does two songs the same. Especially with Metal Galaxy album, BabyMetal have done genre fusions from all of over music.

They indeed did evolve and change but all of their first album(s) doesn't exactly sound like Road of Resistance.
It sounds very DragonForcey because it was pretty much a collab. That song is unique sounding on their first album. You can't really judge BABYMETAL based off one song per album. ESPECIALLY them, because they've always been striving to explore many different sub-genres of metal, not to mention a ton of other genres that have nothing to do with metal (rap, edm, ska, hindi, latin, prog, you name it).
They have a few very heavy tracks on Metal Galaxy but pretty much everybody agrees that their most "metal" album is Metal Resistance (their second album).
BABYMETAL has released 3 albums and made plenty of covers. You can't really "know" wether they evolved or not with having only listened to a couple songs before. No offense but that's true ;).
    Good reaction nonetheless !

Su really does some anger type singing over the heavy parts here. Su said she sang it mad. They lost Mikkio due to a tragic fall, Yui was still out due to health reasons. Your putting together an album that your not even sure whose doing it with you besides Moa. IMO all Babymetal fans gotta thank Moa for them still being together. Yui and Moa were and may still be very close. After the death of Mikkio And Yui stepping out. It would of been so easy for Moa to call it quits and end Babymetal. From interviews they've done it seems after they talked about it, Su and Moa decided to go on.

Don't let any overzealous fans fool you officially this is not a tribute. On and off the record no one apart of or even partially related to the group has ever even hinted that this song is a tribute. Just fan speculation, nothing more nothing less.
Also BABYMETAL didn't change, every song is just different. Starlight is just one of many types of songs they perform.

REACT TO DAX-DEAR MOM You won't regret it. Great guitar instrumental. You can hear each word and the flow is extremely smooth. The message is deep and said brilliantly.
