I get the feeling the aqueduct and you have a very special understanding of each other. There is incredible symbolism with a span like that, especially one purpose built for narrowboats. The visual poetry is strong so thank you for the walk. Glad she is back in full function mode again, what a beautiful structure.

I’m in Southern California now, but grew up in St Martins, and cub scouts in Chirk. I spent countless hours running around that whole area. Thanks for the video and jogging some old memories

World heritage site + sewage treatment plant = 😄
Comparing the Google Earth view (6Sep21) of the area to your video reveals some major changes.

Board... BWB.... When I was a kid we had the gas board, electric board and so on. I don't think they liked using the word company because it was publicly owned, so they used the word board which means the organisation in charge of running the company. Come to think of it, the water board was always a bit of a torture to deal with.

Hi Dan great video on the empty pontcysyillte aqueduct. Very fascinating, you are lucky see the aqueduct anytime. I Hope to go over one day. If I night ask a couple questions. What is a narrowboat rental close to the pontcysyillte aqueduct. And what name brand of shampoo and hand soaps does narrowboaters use? I wish to use the idental kind for use in my travel trailer. I know the ones used on the cut are tried and true. A subscriber from Kentucky USA

It has many subtle changes over the decades. There was only one footpath underneath, the other is a recent addition along with the water points. The canal after the aquaduct on your left is a thinned out section of trees that suffered a landslide that was a very near disaster for the canal. I used to ride a bicycle across the aquaduct every day to work in argoed hall across the canal via the swing bridge back through the road access and across the road. Absolutely terrifying, but did it twice a day and prayed that nobody was on the aquaduct. Or it's bike on the shoulder and squeezing past people.

Wow excellent memories and interesting about the landslide! I fear that Chirk Bank will be the next site of a serious land slip incident!

Nearly half a century of memories from the gradual decimation of the area to the criminal abandonments of the past and present infrastructure. A quick example, along the handrail of the aquaduct is repair plates bolted on, instead of repairing properly. The canal should be from the Trevor basin to near the queen's hotel/pub. But.......

Unfortunately in the modern era and after spending a lot of my life on a canal boat... there are a lot of people who some some strong opinions on the work of the Canal and River Trust throughout the network.
