    This video totally convinced me that I don't have to worry about my omega's. I don't use any oils and I have my soaked morning oatmeal enriched with chiaseeds and flaxseed. I soak the whole thing before I go to sleep. Also, three weeks ago I stopped eating chips and fried potatoes so I drastically lowered my intake of unhealthy fats. I feel ten times better and have more energy.

    • @bananiac
      @bananiac  Před 6 lety +21

      Definitely no need to worry! Just be mindful that you are consuming enough plant based omega 3 (ALA) in your diet and you keep refined oils (omega 6) low so that your body can convert ALA to DHA and EPA as needed. You got this! 👊

    • @RobertWadlow292
      @RobertWadlow292 Před 6 lety +18

      Wrong. Plant based ALA is not enough. You need to eat fatty fish or take fish oil (which isn't loaded with "toxins" if you choose a reputable company. Nordic Naturals is a good choice). Specifically when pregnant (take fish oil in this case to avoid toxins) and when a child is developing are critical periods.

      Dr. Joel Fuhrman also addresses this interesting issue in his book "The End of Dieting". He has tracked Whole Food Plant -Based diet patients for decades and has noted some deficiencies in omega-3 despite attention to including ALA and limiting oils. Being nutritionally conservative, he recommends blood tests for omega-3 levels or including a low-dose algae supplement of DHA to help prevent long-term brain decline in those unlucky individuals who are not good converters due to genetic differences in conversion enzyme activity. He notes, however, that the science is not 100% conclusive on the clinical significance of these deficiencies. Dr. Greger also recommends DHA supplementation based on his review of the current science.

      The title should be why vegan doctors like to hate anything that's non-Vegan I can make a whole video about why brown rice is unhealthy because the high level of arsenic cause cancer so therefore brown rice is unhealthy what about the DHA IN Fish is better than ALA in plants and much more bioavailable I think I would rather listen to what longest living healthy Japanese are eating whole food unprocessed diets
      just because most vegans are less likely to smoke and drink alcohol and eat less processed food doesn't mean that vegan diets are Heather at all the fact that pesco-vegetarians had the lowest hazard ratio for all-cause mortality in the Adventist Health Study 2 despite pollution? I can see the ecological and other ethical problems with eating seafood, but doesn't epidemiology contradict the claim that a vegan diet is healthier than a pescovegetarian diet? I don't think I know better, it's just that I see some contradiction here.
      This study on vegans' use of saying vegan being Heather than meat-eater has clearly shown the opposite true with the fish-eater this doesn't mean vegan diets are unhealthy but not optimal as whole food plants based with some fish since this diet provides all the nutrients from plants and B12 DHA and more biologically available vitamins A and D, therefore, non-vegan diets can be slightly Heather than WFPBD
      Not all vegans eat this diet vegans do eat refined carbs also added vegetable oils are and mock meats are not correct to say that vegans are automatically Heather because their diet is vegan

      It’s possible you weren’t taking enough of the plant based omega 3s. Naturally, with the fish consuming up the food chain, there will be higher concentrations of fat/ omega 3s available. Been watching Dr. Brooke Goldner and her husband Thomas Tadlock on what they call hypernutrition. They discuss protocols on daily green smoothies made of about 75%+ dark leafy greens/ cruciferous veg + 1/4-1/2 cup flax seeds and/or chia seeds, depending on one’s body size. They’ve reversed a lot of diseases and got people to lose weight and bulk up on muscle more easily on their protocol, including the doctor herself reversing her lupus. Enlightening info they have.

    You should have asked him what the typical conversion rate from ALA to EPA + DHA is, assuming a 4:1 6 to 3 ratio in your diet. I hear different sources saying anywhere from 5%-20% which is a large variance. Some even argue you should take algae for DHA + EPA to be sure just in case you are a hard converter. Also, since algae comes from the same dirty water, are there BPA, mercury and other contaminant issues with algae based supplements as well? Too many of the same doctors on youtube being interviewed with the same softball standard questions by different channel hosts... be a little more prepared with your follow ups IMO.

      .All fish oils are toxic and Rancid !..a billion dollar industry ! a scam !
      "polyunsaturated Toxic fats"
      In the 1940s, the agricultural chemists found that they could fatten their animals faster if they poisoned their metabolic systems with an anti-thyroid drug. The found the animals would get fat on very little food. Yet, the drug turned out to leave a carcinogenic residue in the meat.
      Farmers soon found out that corn and soybeans containing polyunsaturated fats (PUFA) would do the same as the anti-thyroid drugs and suppress the respiration of the animals and make them get fat on very little food. In the process they found that they were getting these yellow-fat diseases and brain degenerations (degeneration of the gonads, infertility, and so on).
      Around the same time the medical people noticed that the cholesterol was lowered in the process of eating a lot of these polyunsaturated fats. And that led to the spreading of the marketing of unsaturated fats to the human food supply, rather than just for the fattening of farm animals. And since people didn't want to gain weight on the least amount of food, they needed a new reason for selling their fats to humans. And, lowering cholesterol became the excuse in humans.
      But the agriculturists knew all through the 1940s that corn and soy oils were very fattening, and eventually, very toxic. But since they sold their animals as soon as they reached a marketable size, they didn't care (if they died later; they were killing them before they had the chance to die of the degenerative diseases)." -RP
      Bottom line: Although,the polyunsaturated fats will lower cholesterol (by suppressing the immune system), one of their main functions is to fatten animals, including you if you consume them, on lower calories. This is why farmers use high polyunsaturated fats foods like corn and soy to fatten their animals.
      What foods are high in polyunsaturated oils ? Vegetables, seed and nut oils. Nuts, seeds, soy, corn, fatty fish like salmon, omega 3 and 6 oils, fish oil, and animals that are fed a high polyunsaturated diet . How do they cause hormonal imbalances?
      There are many changes in hormones caused by unsaturated fats. Their best understood effect is their interference with the function of the thyroid gland. Unsaturated oils block thyroid hormone secretion, its movement in the circulatory system, and the response of tissues to the hormone. When the thyroid hormone is deficient, the body is generally exposed to increased levels of estrogen. The thyroid hormone is essential for making the "protective hormones" progesterone and pregnenolone, so these hormones are lowered when anything interferes with the function of the thyroid. The thyroid hormone is required for using and eliminating cholesterol, so cholesterol is likely to be raised by anything which blocks the thyroid function. [B. Barnes and L. Galton, Hypothyroidism, 1976, and 1994 references.]
      Q: How do they damage the immune system?
      Vegetable oil is recognized as a drug for knocking out the immune system. Vegetable oil emulsions were used to nourish cancer patients, but it was discovered that the unsaturated oils were suppressing their immune systems. The same products, in which vegetable oil is emulsified with water for intravenous injection, are now marketed specifically for the purpose of suppressing immunity in patients who have had organ transplants. Using the oils in foods has the same harmful effect on the immune system. [E. A. Mascioli, et al.,Lipids 22(6) 421, 1987.] Unsaturated fats directly kill white blood cells. [C. J. Meade and J. Martin, Adv. Lipid Res., 127, 1978.]
      Q: How do they cause oxidative damage?
      Unsaturated oils get rancid when exposed to air; that is called oxidation, and it is the same process that occurs when oil paint "dries." Free radicals are produced in the process.
      This process is accelerated at higher temperatures. The free radicals produced in this process react with parts of cells, such as molecules of DNA and protein and may become attached to those molecules, causing abnormalities of structure and function.
      Q: What if I eat only organically grown vegetable oils?
      Even without the addition of agricultural chemicals, an excess of unsaturated vegetable oils damages the human body. Cancer can't occur, unless there are unsaturated oils in the diet. [C. Ip, et al., Cancer Res. 45, 1985.] Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver cannot occur unless there are unsaturated oils in the diet. [Nanji and French, Life Sciences. 44, 1989.] Heart disease can be produced by unsaturated oils, and prevented by adding saturated oils to the diet. [J. K. G. Kramer, et al., Lipids 17, 372, 1983.]
      Q. What oils are safe?
      Coconut and olive oil are the only vegetable oils that are really safe, but butter and lamb fat, which are highly saturated, are generally very safe (except when the animals have been poisoned). Coconut oil is unique in its ability to prevent weight-gain or cure obesity, by stimulating metabolism. It is quickly metabolized, and functions in some ways as an antioxidant. Olive oil, though it is somewhat fattening, is less fattening than corn or soy oil, and contains an
      antioxidant which makes it protective against heart disease and cancer.
      Israel had the world's highest incidence of breast cancer when they allowed the insecticide lindane to be used in dairies, and the cancer rate decreased immediately after the government prohibited its use. The United States has fairly good laws to control the use of cancer-causing agents in the food supply, but they are not vigorously enforced. Certain cancers are several times more common among corn farmers than among other farmers, presumably because corn "requires" the use of more pesticides. This probably makes corn oil's toxicity greater than it would be otherwise, but even the pure, organically grown material is toxic, because of its intrinsic unsaturation.
      In the United States, lard is toxic because the pigs are fed large quantities of corn and soy beans. Besides the intrinsic toxicity of the seed oils, they are contaminated with agricultural chemicals. Corn farmers have a very high incidence of cancer, presumably because of the pesticides they use on their crop.
      Q: But aren't "tropical oils" bad for us?
      In general, tropical oils are much more healthful than oils produced in a cold climate. This is because tropical plants live at a temperature that is close to our natural body temperature. Tropical oils are stable at high temperatures. When we eat tropical oils, they don't get rancid in our tissues as the cold-climate seed oils, such as corn oil, safflower oil and soy oil, do. [R.B. Wolf, J. Am. Oil Chem. Soc. 59, 230, 1982; R. Wolfe, Chem 121, Univ. of Oregon, 1986.] ..Go to Raypeats website to read this post ;

It’s discharges into nearby streams and lakes. Do you think Kansas pipes there sewage to the coast for disposal? No.

    I believe people should be eating more whole food omega 3’s especially wild salmon, shellfish, wild crab, wild lobster. However, due to the presence of persistent organic pollutants and mercury i would limit his intake to twice a week and on other days i consume supplements with 4 grams of krill oil and 3-4 grams of fish oil. A recent clinical study showed that 4g of EPA significantly reduced cardiovascular events (by 25%) in population with cardiovascular risk factors.

      There's a difference between eating fish and taking fish oil. Fish oil is processed and loaded with too much EPA/DHA. You should eat organic unrefined omega 6 oils which are found in health food stores, hemp seed oil and sunflower oil are good choices.

Could it be that we've interpreted the Bible wrong? Bc in the beginning "Adam & Eve" were Vegetarians. Annnd... Ironically all of the foods that the Old Testament commands to stay away from are the same foods that's killing us. Just a thought.

      Bobby's Perspective he was severely injured in a car accident several years ago he explains it in a TED talk or something similar. He's actually lost weight and there is a such thing as fat vegans too. Not everyone is a vegan exclusively for health. Some do it just for moral or ethical reasons. You can eat potato chips and Oreos and drink certain sodas and be a vegan, doesn't mean it's healthy.

    • @Otokage007
      @Otokage007 Před 6 lety +9

      it's not like vegans are super lean. Bananas, avocados, chia seeds, and other popular vegan products are quite high in calories. A vegan diet is not the perfect diet if you want to be thin, for that you need a diet with nutrient-dense products, meaning a lot of nutrients packed in the least possible calories, which is a characteristic of animal products. Still, a vegan diet is the healthiest and if you exercise or go to the gym, you can be as thin as you want without being hungry, which is what I love about veganism.

But I've seen labels on such products that WARN you not to take them if you are allergic to iodine (not me, my wife). I already take dulse, a seaweed, because it's high in iodine. Is the iodine in algae-based DHA & EPA a real concern?

      Iodine is a necessary nutrient. However, it stores in the body for days or longer so too much in a short amount of time can cause problems.

      Technically speaking, the "microalgae" that make DHA are phylogenetically unrelated to plants (let's say, as related to plants as are animals to plants). The only reason they call them "algae" is because they can photosynthesise (or at least some of them).

And there are those who claim that our bodies are just not that good at converting ?AHA or DHA? into
