They pulled a gun, and after everything, they put it, not on each other, but on the Time Lords. On their family. Their friends. These two who had been at each other's throats this entire time, chose to side with each other, rather than their family and friends. To protect each other. Yep, revolvers definitely make a shotgun-racking sound ever time they are pointed. If yours doesn't do it, it's because you aren't pointing it hard enough.
I loved how this was the one moment of truce between the Tenth Doctor and the John Simm Master. When the Doctor says 'Get out of the way', he saves the Master's life, and then the Master returns the favour again saying 'Get out of the way' and saving him from Rassilon. This is the one moment they see each other as the two survivors of their race with a shared history.
I love these rare times when we are reminded that The Doctor and The Master were the closest of friends as children. This scene makes me tear up every time. The Doctor is ready to kill The Master to save the universe, but he doesn't want to kill him and he stalls until he figures out a way to save him. The Master dares The Doctor to kill him and is full of fear when he realizes that The Doctor will if there is no other way. The Master weakly shakes his head as a plea not to kill him because he wants to live. He's relieved that his old friend finds a way to spare him. Then The Master, despite his desire to live, sacrifices himself to save The Doctor when he see that The Doctor is willing to die at Rassilon's hand without even putting up a fight.
You just described that so beautifully and truthfully. Yes, The Doctor and The Master will always be friends even if neither of them sometimes like admitting it… their bond as children of Gallifrey, as Twin Lords of Time, and as Movers of this vast and great Cosmos, will never be broken… The Bond between the Master and the Doctor has always been my favorite aspect of the show, because it shows just how alien and yet humanlike these 2 can be in relation to everyone else except each-other ❤️ It’s just as Missy says: Their relationship is infinitely complex, it isn’t just a friendship, or a brotherhood, or a romance, or even rivalry. It’s more than that, it’s something mere humans like us will never be able to explain with proper words because they’re so far advanced from us, that we just can’t comprehend it. But even then, just a little bit, we get to see the spark of humanity inside these 2, and that sometimes helps us relate and even understand them sometimes, and it’s that feeling that helps us to enjoy watching The Doctor. The Doctor and The Master are many things: Enemies Rivals Friends Brothers Colleagues Classmates Scholars Travelers Comrades War Veterans Kindred Spirits Renegades But they’re will always be one thing the Doctor and the Master have always been to each other, and that is… Their 2nd half… The Doctor and The Master will always be each other’s missing piece, the Yin and Yang to each other, The One Who Cultivates… and The One who Dominates
@@stephenmurphy2212 Tecteun didn't exist back then and I don't think Russell has addressed it yet so, for now, she remains his mother. Either way, The Doctor had no idea Tecteun even existed as she only remembers being born and taking the name 'The Doctor' during her first incarnation (Hartnell) so I highly doubt it. As for Romana, there's just no reason that would have been her and she would never have acted so mysteriously. Also, she was Madam President of Gallifrey for quite a while so she would have been deposed by Rassilon before the Time War unless she escaped. I don't think he'd just let her sit on his high council or whatever it is.
I honestly cannot describe how amazing the part when he recognises his mother is, the music is brilliant, David's acting is perfect, it's almost as if you can see him go back to being a kid again, he's no longer the Doctor, he's not the last of the time lords, he's just a little boy and his mother and that scene is so powerful because you can see how much it means to him to see his mother again. Brilliant, it's such a shame doctor who isn't as good as it used to be cause you don't get moments like this anymore.
two things about this that get me, first the Doctor's confusion when told to get out the way then suddenly leaps when he sees the bolt of lightning like he is wondering what the Master even means momentarily but also, that Glove seems like a confusing and silly weapon, it requires a charge up of some kind by the looks of it to do...what exactly?
That part where he recognises his mother is so breath-taking. This scene was so wonderfully written. The aboslute anger in Tennant's face and you can see he's battling his emotions. David Tennant played this so well, and he'll forever be my doctor. I miss him so much. ♥

There are many great parts in this scene But for me it's 1:27 when The Master realises that The Doctor would go through with it. There is no taunting, no pretending to be scared, that is genuine fear.
This version of the Master is the Joker to the Doctor's Batman, really. And if you notice, Rassilon is rather sweating bullets every time the gun is pointed at him...
I agree. Those were the epic times of DW. Miss those three so much as companions. What I really wish had happened with this story in particular is those three were supposed to come and rescue him from the Master and it was supposed to be more episodes to flesh out the timelords vs the Doctor story, but of course they decided not to do that for whatever reason. I love this story, but it could have been better and I would have liked to see one last confrontation between Martha and the Master.
+This Crazy Gamer cause he misspelled tennant the one he wrote is a person that rents a place and the landlord in the joke is the person the tenant pays lol
All of them are good but I'm gonna have to go with tom baker, capaldi, tennant or eccleston. Tom is a classic, tennant had so many good episodes, eccleston was short lived but amazing and capaldi put on an amazing performance for those that don't care about his age. Smith was good but i think he's the weakest of the new who male doctors.

no, Sorry... Delgado was the best master; John Simm's master was saved by his appearance in the series 10 finale... In "The Last of the timelord" he was ok ( a bit too crazy when he killed those politicians with the gas); In the End of Time he was awful, he was not the master, he was a young lord Palpatine...
@@thetwelfthdoctor9892 Agreed, I didn't much like insane Master. Although, I thought he was pretty great in Series 3, not so much in this story. Gomez was the best in my opinion. She gave the character so much depth that I don't believe even Delgado had done.
And I'm guessing David Tennant is the only doctor you watched? John simm's master was absolutely dreadful until Moffat saved his character in season 10. Missy and Delgado are far better you casual.
I am so happy that Moffat never laid his sickly hands on the Woman from this episode. Yes, I do believe she is the Doctor's Mother but we don't need that confirmed anytime soon. He tried to say that he doesn't mind if fans like to think the woman from the barn from Hell Bent was her, but I think most people agree that that woman was his house mother who looked after the boys at the academy.
Anyone else notice how the master shoots Rassilon 4 times? The even creepier part is when you hear the Master count from One to Four every time he shoots him at 3:38
+Atharv, that'spretty noticeable. The other 4's that keep showing up are much less noticeable, like the ones that +Wintex and +Lord Dia Celium mention. Or how the Master bangs on the barrel 4 times, pauses, hits it 4 times again, etc.in this episode. There are other 4's that show up before this episode, too, though I'd have to open the TARDISpedia to hunt them all down and quote the specific episodes. It's very similar to the Bad Wolf thing that kept showing up everywhere for episode after episode in NewWho Series #1, until we finally discover where it's from, and then keeps showing up, even up to when Donna gets attacked in Turn Left, and when Billie Piper plays Bad Wolf as the conscience of the Moment. There are often things that are used as ties that go through an enire huge story arc that lasts sometimes years. That went on a lot in the old show, too. It lends a continuity to it, and helps as a "hook" to keep people waiting and watching for the next time it shows up, and they get the "ooh, wow, there it is again!" thrill.
"Get out of the way". I remember watching this as a kid, in my head, The Doctor and Master. Both half brothers fighting. Breaking the Mum's heart so she subtly (with her eyes 2:19) tells her son, The Doctor to sacrifice Gallifrey and save her other son :)
The Masters Redemption is definitely one of my all time favourite Who moments, it's sad they didnt develop this further during Missy's turn as the Master
The look the Master has on his face at 3:20 is the perfect combination of rage, resignation, and genuine sacrifice. 1st, he is blisteringly angry as the time lord for implanting the knocks into his head and explodes with the music in the very next second. 2nd, he knows the doctor just sacrificed himself for him, his old childhood friend willing to sacrifice his life for someone who has been one of his worst enemies. And 3rd, The Master accepts his part and returns the favor, tying their arc in a perfect bow, from childhood friends to the worst of enemies, to sacrificing themselves for each other at the end of time. It is my favorite scene from Doctor Who because of the sheer amount of emotion it conveys in just a single second of time.
I like how through the entirety of this exchange, the two dudes at each side of the president are just chilling like they see shit like this every day.
'YOU DID THIS TOO ME!' 'YOU MADE ME!' you can genuinely hear the rage in the Master's voice now he knows who the culprit that made him suffer all those years is.
when the Master smiled, knowing what his friend had decided to do, I was so happy, their rivalry was sparked by their friendship, the doctor keeps trying to prove to the master that the only difference between them is their morals, the master was somewhat upset that the doctor was willing to take the easy way there for a moment, and when the doctor chose not to kill, it showed that their rivalry, their friendship(despite all he's done) continued
Dragon Cry Hell Yeah dude. John Simm was the best. Hated Missy. She was kinda alright in season 10 but apart from that it was shite. When Moffat brought her/him back like that kinda ruined it
I Loved Moffats Stories and Capaldi until......The Mistress happened....but I'm guessing he was being pressured by the Feminazi's and It was either that or the Doctor and a women Doctor would Destroy the series.......look at James Bond, I would laugh my arse off at Jane Bond.
Jrr Tolkien I dont think the Mistress was such a bad idea honestly. Mostly because it changes up things and the Mistress is funny unlike most versions of the Master.

I just wanna say that the Master suited that look, the blonde hair, the stubble and the clothes. I personally loved it. He is my favourite Master, especially from the new era of Doctor Who
David Tennant and John Simms are absolutely amazing actors and this is one of the best examples of that for both of them, heartbreaking and endearing for both villain and hero
I've always thought that the doctor holding a gun was the saddest and most hopeless thing in doctor who. I mean, it'd pretty clear that after killing all the time lords in the time war, the doctor set out with the intention to help, to heal, to save. I'm pretty sure he made that decision before the time war because of the name he chose: Doctor. A practitioner in the medical sciences, a hope, a light for the hopeless. When he holds that gun up you know that's when the doctor has lost hope. A gun. A weapon, a murder weapon, an object that can cause nothing but death, and the doctor, after years and years of saying that he would save a whole species, a whole race, even at his own expense, held it with the intention to kill. idk, but that's always made me so sad. this part has always made me so sad. because what has happened to the doctor we love? what has happened to the doctor who used his two hearts to love instead of allowing them to blacken when things got bad? What happened to the doctor who knew that when shit got real, his morals and his values would matter most?
Caitlin Chong here's a piece to think about. you hear the clicking after every turn he makes? the gun only ever had one bullet in it, in the fifth or sixth chamber. he pulled the trigger on every turn to move the bullet one slot closer to the barrel. he never intended on killing either rassilon or the master. he knew he could shoot the console behind the master to break the link, harmlessly dispelling of the timelords and allowing the master to live. it's also the reason that the close-ups of the trigger show it already pulled; he shot to rotate the chamber, knowing he'd not kill.
I don't think the Doctor realized the machine could break the link as readily too, until the woman uncovered her face, made eye contact with the Doctor, and then glanced back and forth between the Doctor and the machine.
KaneinEncanto and what of the master smirking when the doctor says, "get out of the way."? he must know the doctor's plan is to send rassilon back to gallifrey, else he wouldn't've fully trusted the doctor. but he smirks, then ducks out of the way. and he wouldn't've seen the woman's eyes scanning between the doctor and the machine.
The Master realizes the Doctor's plan moments after he tells him to "get out of the way"...there's a few moments of confusion on his face, then the smirk as he realizes what the Doctor is going to do. After all, the Master set up the machine, so he knows what's behind him at that moment.
And there's a wonderful moment between two old friends, as they once had been, him instantly knowing what his friend is going to do, just as a lot of my friends tend to know how I'm going to react to something.
drawing a gun on Rassilon wielding his gauntlet is a bit like hefting a rock and aiming it at a man holding an assault rifle. That gauntlet is a general-purpose superweapon/tool and is literally millions of years beyond human technology. Rassilon could have ended that fight instantly
The gun the Doctor has will fire faster and the Doctor proved himself capable of anything in the time war, that's why Rassilon doesn't just use the gauntlet immediately. He knows the Doctor can shoot him, then empty the rest of the bullets in the gun into Rassilon to kill him during regeneration. The Doctor knows how to kill a Timelord - he very well could kill either Rassilon or the Master in this scene and they both know the Doctor could.
@@willhyde5026 Plus the simple fact that Rassilon's a sadist. He wants to draw out the Doctor's suffering and make him soak in the knowledge that he's going to die too. And right afterwards, his arrogance proceeds to shoot him in the foot.
Missy threw the ending of this out the window. The whole point was that the Doctor saved the Master, so he saved the Doctor in return. They had a moment between them where they came to an agreement that they were no longer each other's greatest threat, and I would have liked to see them talk about it afterwards, and maybe, well, not really become friends but come to an agreement. I believe that Missy was completely different from how the Master would have reacted the first time meeting the Doctor after The End of Time, and I'm not a fan of it.
Yeah, it sucks that everyone forgets that Missy stops trying to kill the Doctor, but of course still tries to make him 'bad'. All in all, I think that Missy was a good Master, and though the episodes she appeared in were sub-par, I honestly think the End of Time was a horrible story as well and RTD pretty much lost his touch with the Specials, except for Water of Mars.
Two best friends who spent their many lifetimes battling across the stars. The doctor shows the master some compassion, against all odds he saved the day and didn't hurt the master, and was instead willing to die for it. The master, just can't help but to save him back, sure, he does it his way, reagefully, reckless, but it is done. I like to think Missy's eventual turn started here, seeing proof beyond proof, he still cared
He condemned The Master to a lifetime of drums. Four beats of a drum only he could hear for eternity. So, he lets Rassilon hear what it sounds like by blasting him, counting to four-exactly the same amount of times as that incessant drum beat. 3:37 One. Two. Three and Four!
For so many years, I had this theory that the woman was actually The Doctor Donna who had finally found a way to escape and went looking for gallifrey. She contacts Wilfred first and tells him at one point “I was lost once” which I thought she was referring to how lost she was trapped inside Donna for so many years. But because Russel T Davis never confirmed and reading up on theories. It’s left to audiences interpretation. But the woman being the Doctors mother makes more sense and when I rewatched it with that perception on her, it was more powerful and I kept crying.
I always loved how when The Doctor initially stands between Rassilon and The Master, it feels like he doesn't even care about the bigger picture or the consequences. That first pulling of the gun felt more like "I will not stand by and let my friend die."
Fantastic scene, one of my favourites I never quite understand how we went from The Master sacrificing himself to Missy that really needs explaining at some point
It's been about 30 years since we saw the Master burning at the end of "Planet of Fire" and then coming back a few episodes later without explanation. Don't hope too much.
The fact that the master would willingly sacrifice him self to save the doctor his best friend and arch rival says alot that even though the master does evil things he still loves his best friend
The best part of the episode, in my opinion. Two Time Lords who have been enemies for soooo long finally join sides to take down the tyrant, Rassilon. AWESOME!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Stop your fanboyism trying to explain away moffats god awful writing. Theres nothing intelligent or insightful to nonsensical storylines aimed at complete and utter morons.
I think my favourite part of this is just after the Doctor says "Get out of the way." You can see the Master's entire thought process, and his smirk at the realisation.
One of the most intense scenes in Doctor who. Switching between who the doctor is going to shoot out me on edge, and his theme when he sees his mother sent chills down my spine.
I love how they reference this episode in "The Day of The Doctor". Some guy in the War Council: The High Council has plans of their own. The General: To hell with the High Council! Their plans have already failed!
The Master, 1 January 2010, about Rassilon: “He’s to blame, not me!” Ohila, 5 December 2015, to Rassilon: “The Doctor does not blame Gallifrey for the horrors of the Time War.” *“He just blames you.”*
Sooooo....the whole 50th anniversary arc (as much as i loved it) throws the relevance, significance and even the whole plot of this episode out the window doesn't it?
10 didnt want to save the Gallifreyans cause they all turned evil under Rasillion. 11 somehow does a complete 180 and attempts to save his dying brethern cause they were all so innocent
The sadness in The Master's eyes when he realizes that The Doctor is fully willing to kill him if necessary.
That's when he realises it's not just a game to play with The Doctor's emotions!

Alas, that is something that all Whovians ( Dr Who fans) experience eventually. Welcome to the fandom ! It’s not all sad , I promise! Feel free to ask anything you like.

So, if I get it right, you love this episode for writing etc, but hate it because this was the last episode with Tennant as the doctor?
I know there is a lot of special episodes(I haven't watched them yet) and I know that David reappears somehow in them, not as main doctor, but still
Ps. Thank you for welcoming me:)
@@seshiveru Welcome Whovian. I hope you enjoy the show.
What I love about this episode most is when the Master is screaming "You did this to me" and attacking Rassilon with light beams. He finally realises who his true enemy is, who turned him into a living target and sacrified his whole life so that they can survive and continue to fulfill their "important" tasks. The pain and rage in his eyes is incredible.
I could feel his pain and rage in his tone.
The Big Finish audio gives another reason for his evil and insanity also which I think is pretty good and far more tragic
Master there looks like tortured beast that is ready to go to literal hell to get it's revenge and he did it.
The Master looks so genuinely heartbroken when he thinks the Doctor will shoot him...
Well yeah, The doctor is his brother.😐
@@foxymanaic5934 I believe that they're brothers, but it's never been confirmed. So yeah, if that's what you think.🤔
@@foxymanaic5934 I think he just said that because the Master was acting mad, pretending to be the prime minister 🤷
did everyone legit forget the doctor mocking martha when she said she thought he was his brother,,,,, did everyone forget Missy kissing the doctor,,,,,,,,,,, they might be time lords but they're from gallifrey not sweet home alabama lmao (not @ you op, this is directed at the replies)
@@inkbery4473 I really feel like the doctor mocking Martha isn’t the doctor talking, but more the writers directly talking to the audience THROUGH the doctor haha
Sound design in this scene is unparalleled. The "CLICK" every time the Doctor changes position is top notch.
Don’t forget the gun switches his hands every time he turns around.
Clicks four times too. Probably not related to the knocking, but I think it's a nice detail
@@doctorjay8673 great catch 👍
@@South_0f_Heaven_of course it does. He’s the doctor
Dhawan probably regrets that. When he looked down on Missy, he probably thought Simm was just as good as Missy, so he chose to be evil unlike them
I love these rare times when we are reminded that The Doctor and The Master were the closest of friends as children.
Yes, The Doctor and The Master will always be friends even if neither of them sometimes like admitting it… their bond as children of Gallifrey, as Twin Lords of Time, and as Movers of this vast and great Cosmos, will never be broken…
The Bond between the Master and the Doctor has always been my favorite aspect of the show, because it shows just how alien and yet humanlike these 2 can be in relation to everyone else except each-other ❤️
It’s just as Missy says: Their relationship is infinitely complex, it isn’t just a friendship, or a brotherhood, or a romance, or even rivalry.
The Doctor and The Master are many things:
Enemies
Rivals
Friends
Brothers
Colleagues
Classmates
Scholars
Travelers
Comrades
War Veterans
Kindred Spirits
Renegades
But they’re will always be one thing the Doctor and the Master have always been to each other, and that is… Their 2nd half…
The Doctor and The Master will always be each other’s missing piece, the Yin and Yang to each other, The One Who Cultivates… and The One who Dominates

Hello Missis Doctor. You look well. Sorry I tried to kill your son over the past 900 years
It’s Tecteun (the Doctor’s adoptive mother), the Gallifreyan explorer who found the Timeless Child/The Doctor. Or it could be Romana.
Lewys Cousins she could still be Tecteun. She may have been the Doctor’s mother both in the childhood he remembers and the one he doesn’t remember.

"get out of the way"
two things about this that get me, first the Doctor's confusion when told to get out the way then suddenly leaps when he sees the bolt of lightning like he is wondering what the Master even means momentarily but also, that Glove seems like a confusing and silly weapon, it requires a charge up of some kind by the looks of it to do...what exactly?

This version of the Master is the Joker to the Doctor's Batman, really. And if you notice, Rassilon is rather sweating bullets every time the gun is pointed at him...
John Simm’s portrayal of the Master’s rage at what the time lords did to him is one of the best pieces of acting I’ve ever seen

John simm was the best master
no, Sorry... Delgado was the best master; John Simm's master was saved by his appearance in the series 10 finale... In "The Last of the timelord" he was ok ( a bit too crazy when he killed those politicians with the gas); In the End of Time he was awful, he was not the master, he was a young lord Palpatine...
@@thetwelfthdoctor9892 oh now Geoffrey Beevers is rather the equal of Delgado .
@@thetwelfthdoctor9892 Agreed, I didn't much like insane Master. Although, I thought he was pretty great in Series 3, not so much in this story.
Gomez was the best in my opinion. She gave the character so much depth that I don't believe even Delgado had done.
Ainley was excellent too.
And I'm guessing David Tennant is the only doctor you watched? John simm's master was absolutely dreadful until Moffat saved his character in season 10. Missy and Delgado are far better you casual.
You have to feel sorry for the Master
I am so happy that Moffat never laid his sickly hands on the Woman from this episode. Yes, I do believe she is the Doctor's Mother but we don't need that confirmed anytime soon. He tried to say that he doesn't mind if fans like to think the woman from the barn from Hell Bent was her, but I think most people agree that that woman was his house mother who looked after the boys at the academy.
Sadly Moffat did confirm that the woman is the Doctor's mother. Sorry bud. 😕

*Is Rassilon wearing the infinity gauntlet?!?*
So thats where it came from haha ;)
Anyone else notice how the master shoots Rassilon 4 times? The even creepier part is when you hear the Master count from One to Four every time he shoots him at 3:38
And Wilfred gives the gun four time to the doctor. And then there's the four knocks on the glass by Wilfred. Four everywhere.
4 in the doctor who theme :P
Four in my name as well, lol.

I remember watching this as a kid, in my head, The Doctor and Master. Both half brothers fighting. Breaking the Mum's heart so she subtly (with her eyes 2:19) tells her son, The Doctor to sacrifice Gallifrey and save her other son :)
I know the sibling thing is just fan theory but I love this take
The Masters Redemption is definitely one of my all time favourite Who moments, it's sad they didnt develop this further during Missy's turn as the Master
Personally, I like to think the RTD era is in a separate canon all of its own from the stuff that came in the Moffat era.
I wouldn't say this was his redemption, I would say its revenge

'YOU DID THIS TOO ME!' 'YOU MADE ME!' you can genuinely hear the rage in the Master's voice now he knows who the culprit that made him suffer all those years is.
This scene is so tense
John Simm, David Tennant and Timothy Dalton were the most perfect castings we’ve ever been lucky to have
This episode is one of my favorites starring my FAVORITE doctor David Tennant. Such a passionate man but ruthless and dangerous when he needed to be.
Funny how when Rassilon says "No more.", The Doctor almost reverts to the War Doctor by raising a gun
Though it's not intentional, I like to think that Rassilon was mocking the doctor.
1:59 gives me Chills every single time I hear it
when the Master smiled, knowing what his friend had decided to do, I was so happy, their rivalry was sparked by their friendship, the doctor keeps trying to prove to the master that the only difference between them is their morals, the master was somewhat upset that the doctor was willing to take the easy way there for a moment, and when the doctor chose not to kill, it showed that their rivalry, their friendship(despite all he's done) continued
3:20, I just got chills. The sudden change to heroic music, the Master's reluctant change of heart, John Simm will always be my favourite Master.

Wait when did the Master save the Doctor? Didn't he get sucked into the Time War too?
?? When Rassilon said "you die with me" and the Doctor says "I know", the Master stands up and says "get out of the way" so that he can stop Rassilon.
ThatGeekFreakThatNobodyLikes OK, I don't remember the plot very well, just the bit where the Doctor ssays get out of the way. But you're right.
But Missy doesn't try to kill the Doctor anymore. That part of the agreement does stand.
Wow probably the only video without any dislikes is about Doctor who. Us whovians can all agree that this scene was amazing

It was revealed in the 1996 movie that the Doctor is half human on his mothers side...
She looks a bit like last incarnation of Tecteun.
I always loved how when The Doctor initially stands between Rassilon and The Master, it feels like he doesn't even care about the bigger picture or the consequences. That first pulling of the gun felt more like "I will not stand by and let my friend die."
This was so heart touching that I literally cried. One of my favorite episodes👏🏼

Can anybody else hear ‘Galifrey boiii’ at 2:53 😂😂😂
Yep. All i can hear
@@jimmyskwid9002it's "gallifrey balls!!"
I love how they reference this episode in "The Day of The Doctor".
Some guy in the War Council: The High Council has plans of their own.
The General: To hell with the High Council! Their plans have already failed!
Bloody brilliant wish doctor who was like this again
Honestly I feel like crying 😢
The Master, 1 January 2010, about Rassilon: “He’s to blame, not me!”
Ohila, 5 December 2015, to Rassilon: “The Doctor does not blame Gallifrey for the horrors of the Time War.”
*“He just blames you.”*
Sooooo....the whole 50th anniversary arc (as much as i loved it) throws the relevance, significance and even the whole plot of this episode out the window doesn't it?
yep, classic Moffat
+KKEntertainment who else but moffat
Man i miss Russell T, Dr. Who was much darker and serious under his administration
no it doesn't. its never confirmed that they didn't do this while they were saving gallifrey.
10 didnt want to save the Gallifreyans cause they all turned evil under Rasillion. 11 somehow does a complete 180 and attempts to save his dying brethern cause they were all so innocent
