Inspired by finding a Doepfer SEM filter in a box under my bed, I decided to make a video on the various applications and joys of filters!
I don't want to say that filters are under-rated or under-utilised, because they're really not, I just wanna express my passion for these classic stalwarts of synthesis.
In this video there will be lot's of patching from scratch and creating musical ideas based around the humble filter. Featureing the UVCF from intellijel, the SEM filter from Doepfer, the Dual Dagger from Shakmat and even some algorithmic filtering from the FX Aid.
Enjoy!

This channel is a vibe 🙏🏽
Somehow I missed this video. Seriously useful, creative and practical ideas for newbies like me! 😎
I totally forgot about this vid. Maybe I’ll do an updated version :)
love the filter as drums section... really smooth on the OP-1!
Really nice to hear you talk over the sonic experiments, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! :)
Man this channel is so good
What an amazing video! Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
cheers man! :D
Loving your vids & sounds. Many thx and keep it going
Thank you! :D
genius.. So inspiring contents, you are really helping me in my journey into modular synth
cheers man! glad you're enjoying the journey :)
Another inspired video, thanks a bunch!!
cheers man!
this was very interesting indeed!!!
Great job showing versatility of an effect I think many people only consider usable in th DJ filter sense. Also nice to see the dual dagger back in its rightful place :)
cheers man, yea I'd been really missing the dagger!
I used to come for the learning, and just enjoy the jams, now it's switched
Really nice comment - thanks! :)
💙thanks for sharing
Thank you! :)
Nice ideas.
thank you!

The songs you make are always super dope. Where can I find your music?
Cheers man! I don't have too much online atm. I do have an EP i released in 2019 on bandcamp and a few tracks up on soundcloud too:

Maybe the self oscillating filter sine wave has saturation from the filer and that makes it sound more pleasing to you
Good point i hadn't thought of that!
Great video as ever. What are you using the Dagger for in this patch? Isn't that a second filter?
Also (while I'm asking questions :-) ) out of the 3 filters you have here, which would you recommend picking up first as a "starter"? Finally, I'd love to see a video that dives more into Maths. I think you have one of drum machines, but since it's such a workhorse for you, I'd love to see a broader and deeper dive.
Hey thank you! Yea, I quite often have a filter at the beginning and end of my fx chain. I think if I could only have one of these filters I'd go for the dual dagger. I like that it can be mono or stereo, and also the performance aspect of having a LP control and a HP control is very handy! I definitely plan on doing a deeper dive into Maths - it's on the video list :)
yes sir
glad you approve! :)
@@TheUnperson this one is for the ecomony
Lovely! How did you sync the op1 to the modular?
He just sets Pam's to the same tempo and hits play at the right time
I think he's made a video on that specific subject. Might be worth checking out since there's more than one way to do it
Yea I just do it manually, but did make a video about using the OP1 as the master clock:
czcams.com/video/k-naqmRpEq4/video.html
So why do you have the extra power module?
Sample and hold from Pam’s? How is this magic to be achieved?
If you long-press the knob while selecting an output you can change the shape of the gate to your typical LFO shapes, as well as a load of other options :)
hard to hear you talk over the music in the intro jam lol
Lol
why dont youtubers ever zoom in on their modular? the keyboard, coffee and drum machine are unnecessary elements when doing a module demo. the subject takes up less than 20% of the screen!
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
