- Aaliyah Live and Studio Vocal Range
I put together the vocals that Aaliyah showcased throughout her career. She had a brillant tone, timbre, and fasletto voice. I still don't know what her actual range would be, but I know it's bigger.

If your girl only knew rock the boat more than a woman are you that somebody i miss you try again timbaland best live performance r kelly death ciara vs high not falsetto - Hudba
Her voice is so versatile, she got solid low notes like a contralto. Yet light bright high notes like a soprano. Which clearly tells me she's a Mezzo (Lyric Mezzo). I love her tone :)
Yep. Idk why people think she's a soprano
+Luigi K her vocal coach stated she was. A soprano with a 4 Octave vocal range
dallycraze various rare clips... like recording of journey to the past, are you that somebody, IYGOK etc I'll be uploading her full range soon, I'm just waiting for her new album.
shes a spinto soprano
Just because she sounds full in the lower register doesn't make her a Mezzo soprano. Why can't she just be a Full Lyric Soprano with crazy head voice ability to deliver fluid low notes like a Contralto.
I love this, Aaliyah's voice is so underrated! She can really sing
Yes I like her last album it's beautiful
Yet they tried to say Aaliyah cant sing .
Man I love when she hits those low notes
I liked how sweet her falsetto was.
Why can't we all just compliment the late great Aaliyah without disrespecting Beyonce? They're both amazing singers.
(Aaliyah is my fav though lol)
She´s a lyric soprano not a mezzosoprano lyric or a soprano spinto,she´s clearly a lyric soprano,she had a unique voice,r.i.p Aaliyah.
No fuckin auto tune no lip singing straight natural singing
I noticed that she sings better with her shades on or if others are on the stage with her. When she has to look the crowd in the eyes, or if all attention is on her, she seems very uncomfortable. I think the Oscars was the most frightening moment for her live.
Aaliyah's C#3 at her at 2:50 is like butter.
You know, considering Aaliyah's agility to reach the high notes I still believe she had more range then she showed. It kind of frustrated me doing this, because she was way to safe with her performances. Clearly she could sing...but was scared
her voice is so beautiful such a pretty tone. I love it when she uses her lower range its so rich and her falsetto is gorgeous
Queen Aaliyah
Aaliyah had stage fright so bad to where she couldn't even record a song in the studio unless the lights were turned off lol. Aaliyah didn't have a lack of talent, she just had a lack of confidence.
Dboy4100X3 she did have a lack of Talent u dumb fuck
jordan cox and what is her lack of talent?
maybe she was used to recording in R Kelly's studio with the lights off
@@KingLeno 🤣🤣 frfr
Queen ♥ one of the most beautiful spirits in the show business, stunning voice and overall incredible talent. the way she was and the music she left are timeless and one of a kind. She's an influence and inspiration, someone who was doing her thing, and knew how to do it the best. Aaliyah is a legend.
OF COURSE.
Street thing
journey to the past
the one I gave my heart too
was her strongest and flawless vocals
r.I.p. my beloved
Never giving up
What If
I Refuse
Everyone is forgetting the Kenan Ivory Wayans show where she hits an F5 in the one I gave my heart to
I fell in love with Giving You More after I heard it on here! Such a versatile singer. Such a fluid voice. She has my favorite head voice! Her lows are some of my favorite of any singer as well. Great harmonies too.
I wonder how big her range really is......but we'll never know now 😔 R.I.P. Baby Girl 💓
Mico, THE DON but we don't know how large it truly is, whose to say she used all her true potential? Especially since she's gone now 💗
Camreon Kelley yeah I'm aware she did not, we had so much more to see from her. she even stated how she did not want to showcase her full range on one album.
That's one of the reasons why I don't like when people say an artist can't sing, when I know they can. Kelly Rowland has her inconsistencies too, but people saying she cannot sing are idiots imo
G#4 she sung her ass off
My favorite is 1:30. I miss this clip and been searching for it. I can't believe you have it (super rare) ... people don't think Aaliyah had the ability to belt in the 5th or 6th octave like Beyoncé does nowadays.
Her and Beyoncé have the exact octaves in there vocal range
WOW Her lower registry & Head Voice are soo strong loves it. I heard her highest note in head voice was a B5
Sang It Girl 10 Years Later And No One Can Touch Your Style! Flawless, Effortless, Talented! These Others Girls Have Tried, But Can't Do It Right. You Are Remembered As An Entertainer.
Beyonce learned to dance and sing... Aaliyah was more natural ... can dance her ass off pure voice.and natural looks she was beautiful
mine business , stop comparing they are both very talented and beautiful.
James Smith my comment was 7 years ago man keep it moving
mine business 💀💀💀
Absolutely gorgeous voice live or in the studio & thats that..
God her voice was ridiculously beautiful.
RIP
) =
When she’s in the studio she’s in her comfort zone . But she was going to get better live
we cant say this is her whole range cause this is her singing style range not actually singing voice range
- I think the person were giving several examples and not exactly saying like oh this is her whole range in one video
Cortez Miller yaasss
Love Aaliyah - that last pic is so beautiful
This is how much Aaliyah showed. I'm sure she had more, but I have all her cds and that octave count is correct as far as I know. You don't have to have alot of octaves to be a good singer either. Rihanna and Miley Cryus have more octaves than Aaliyah, but they definitely can't sing as good lol
She sounds like a bird in her falsetto range she has alot of agility in it
I like the smooth transition from four page letter to I don't wanna @ 5:38
great video you had a very comprehensive video hope my suggestions helped
Her head voice and falsetto is beautiful. I just watched a video comparing Aaliyah's and Beyonce's vocals. Although Beyonce's voice is more power, I think Aaliyah has the better head voice.
You did help me, thanks so much bajeboi :D
I'm glad you made this vid. There are ppl who actually say she couldn't sing.
she actually said she was a soprano though many times
I've never seen Street Thing live. Omg now I need to search it.
Look that’s a real voice. If someone says that she can’t sing than that someone doesn’t know real music. Man I love Aaliyah so much and her voice omg so amazing and beautiful and pretty at the same time. I truly miss her man💖💖💖💖💖💖❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree. Again, thanx.
True spill. Talent was evident then
To me it's all about tone and technique that's what makes a singer to me some singers have 5 octaves but I would listen to someone with a beautiful tone over someone who can hit high notes and sound decent at best!
She has 2.5 octave range, and I believe she is an alto but judging by her higher range, she is probably something else so I don't know exactly. I know her mother was a very low, deep singer
Look up "Never coming back" live performance. Thats her best performance top! She uses all her registers and takes risks love performance
All of Aaliyah's Low Tone Reminds Me of a Young Toni Braxton... I Think that's Why i Loved Her Singing.
Almost shedded a tear
I miss Aaaliyah :( :( :( :( Gone but NEVER forgotten she was an angel and had the voice to match
@PsionicJedi that song is I dont wanna off of the Romeo must die soundtrack
do you have entire performance of Street Thing ?
They will never be another. They can't sing she did. Her voice is undeniable angelic. I miss this young lady. I wanted to see how she would have doing now. Voice, Beauty and Spoke very well in public.. That song from SPARKLE would have been a classic on repeat.
@MsceeMaria I don't know what you talkin bout Aaliyah Was The Best And She Was that Good!!! DONT EVER TALK ABOUT HER AGAIN!!! JS
She should have belted more!
It's because many other Artists was always belting. Aaliyah wanted to stand out and be Different
Her range is only 2.5, it's not big but she uses it very well.
Nah it sounds higher than that. Maybe 2.5 in low range
AGREED....
@PsionicJedi that sond is called street thing off of her debut album age aint nothing but a number
Barely any of her material demonstrated her real capabilities. This is coming from a big fan of hers. Had she ventured into jazz or neo soul she probably would have demonstrated more of a vocal prowess. She possessed the phrasing, tone, and conviction. She would have been amazing singing the standards. Everyone should listen to the 5 seconds of "My funny valentine" she sang on her Craig Kilbourne interview and you would definitely catch my drift.
@Dboy4100X3 I heard the video loud and clear. Aaliyah is NOT a contralto nor is she a lyric contralto. She's definitely a soubrette.
Soubrettes have light voices like Aaliyah's. I didn't say range determines vocal type. I'm aware that it doesn't.
@Jovonnie19 thanks so much.
The live G5 note is "4 Page Letter". The studio version is "I Care 4 U".
Can someone please tell me where can i find her performance of street thing live
I agree with you. Plus, she was only 22 when she died so her tone would have matured too. It's a shame she died when she died. Her and beyonce would be running this industry right now.
Yeah when she was alive, people used to say that about her and Brandy. Real talk both of them were very underrated
@MaxamillionJuly I agree. Non- professional. Reports render evidence that they display "harass." She's one of those artist who hits when she wanted. Some days were better than others. Her live performances demonstrate the occurrances. Every artists has there ups and downs. She's performing arts. Those courses are selected and taught in order to profess talent. I do not agree with the way her octives are displayed, because music is written and decoded. Consider it a challenge amongst maturity.
I don't know about that. Tank and Missy, did sing lower harmonies on her music so you have to distinguish those voices. Plus I see you are going by Crunkboi's video (not to diss him, I applaud his effort), but the notes are lower than it is actually suppose to be. Maybe he used a different scale like the alto-saxophone scale. But the piano/flute C scale is the scale that should be used to measure vocal range.
what interview did Aaliyah say she was a soprano i hear people keep referring to it but i have yet to see it also about the 2.5 octaves i don't know how to measure it so i cant comment but i've seen other vids with other singers hitting the same notes as Aaliyah yet there range is stated above 3
its aaliyahs fault that she died? if u feel she has an average voice thats your opinion but to say her death was her fault is a lil cruel. if she was psychic and could predict the future im sure she wouldnt have gotten on that plane. she was very anxious to go home and be with her family. whats wrong with that? stfu and know your facts before u talk a whole bunch of nonsense. and for the record you dont have to have a powerful voice like beyonce or whitney to be a good singer.
She hits a C3 too in the clip you showed of her hitting a D3.
np so what the actual range from this vid i am not good with the note thing from her lowest to highest note in the vid whats her range? and what vocal type was she thanks
well she said she was very nervous to perform so i guess that is why but she could hit those falsetto notes easily
2:50 what song is that?
very very underrated but Aaliyah style was not the belting high note thing but i think coming in the after 2001 after the american idol craze she would of been forced to show what she could do btw what dp you think of her vocals on givin up donny hataway remake
cool thought it was more but she could definitely blow
how can anyone dislike this?
Because not everyone like this gril
hey I'm asking a question??
i love aaliyah's music n i also love beyonce's i respect both of them n i just dont get why many of aaliyah's fans hate so much on beyonce is just not right n many of u say beyonce was kissing aaliyah's ass n stuff like that let me say she dont need nobody to be a huge star as she is n she never needed nobody to get to the place she is right now even when aaliyah was alive she was already HUGE!!! so she is an amazing entertainer as liyah was n she deserves respect as an artist
Aaliyah liked dimmed lights.
@Angelfully what song is play at 5:47?
2:46
I hate when people argue over who's better everybody's different than everybody else aaliyah was aaliyah and Ciara is Ciara and beyonce is beyonce
Aaliyah has the voice of an angel and was on her p's and q's..... LOL!
Her tone was light and pretty but her tessitura lied in the Contralto range and without the huskiness. I prefered her low register more. When she sings in the middle register, she has stronger texture than a Soprano would. However, she had an AMAZING head voice. She loses vocal weight as she enters her chest register.
what's that song for harmonized b3
choosey lover, second part of the son
@KeeceStar 2:45 choosy lover ans 5:35 is never comeing back
@Commenterr1 How was the plane crash her fault? I'm pretty sure she didn't beg the pilot to put all that luggage on the plane. Even if she did, she wasn't educated in how air crafts work. The pilot should've simply said now. It was fate that caused her death, along with the other 8 people on that plane.
BTW, Aaliyah had a great falsetto and head voice, especially for someone her age at the time.
2 octaves and 4 notes
cause she can do the whistle register
What is the song at 2:16 ?
Wow. Just wow. See, this is why I don't like commenting on videos like this. They always turn ugly.
To the person that said I'm always on Aaliyah videos. That's a damn lie. This is the first Aaliyah video I've ever commented on. I wasn't even dissing her so Idk why y'all getting all upset.
But its whatever. Opinions are like assholes.
@Dboy4100X3 Okay, I read the video maker's comment and she's wrong. Aaliyah isn't a contralto.
People are so stupid. Aaliyah is the best and will always be the BEST(.)
@Dboy4100X3 Eh don't take this personally lol Its not insult. It is what it is. Aaliyah's voice type is soubrette. Its way too soft to be a contralto. Like you said vocal range doesn't determine a voice type. Key word: Voice type. The maker of this video didn't say she's a contralto. Anyone with a pair of ears knows that Aaliyah isn't a contralto. A contralto is Amy Winehouse and Etta James. Those are contraltos. Not Aaliyah. Please, don't go around saying Aaliyah is one. People will laugh.
What’s the song at 5:47 thanks? 🙏
I Am Music. It was on Timbaland and Magoo’s last album Indecent Proposal. It’s Aaliyah and Static Major on vocals. Static’s verse was originally planned for Beck.
Why didn’t you put her F5 belts in here?
I wasn't trying to take a blow at you, but your video was very off. Someone had to request for me to make a correct one. I play piano, so that G#5 is right, including every note on this video. Now if I made a mistake I usually change it, but I haven't made any as far as I know.
Live she went up to a F5 in chest voice
@hung0sowell I take it that you are a studio engineer? Good for you. Brandy, beyonce, Whitney, Mariah, that are considered real vocalist sound live just thy way they recorded so if u r trying to prove a point about someone not knowing music u should try to seek a new point.

its amazing an Aaliyah video can never have comments without trashy people such as QueenBeystan on it
you know Aaliyah's G5 note....what is that song called that she's performing?
The one i gave my heart to?
@AaliyahDawnTEAM Actually, Janet fans in general have nothing against Aaliayh.
Aaliyah always spoke highly of Janet and was really influenced by Jan. Its just her stans/fans that want to get catty with the Janet fans/stans by coming for Janet. I just hope the rest of the Janet clan don't come on here. It will get really ugly.
