- The BTR-80A is a Light Tank in War Thunder that has the same 30mm autocannon as the BMP-2 and BMP-3. It has APDS rounds with over 80mm of penetration at 7.0!
The best way to describe this vehicle is a giant R3 T20 that isn't as good mobility wise but packs a slightly better punch than the puny little 20mm.
I had a bit of a struggle destroying enemies with the BTR-80A but it was really good at harassing the enemy teams and letting my team mates finish the enemies off. Probably great for doing assists and intelligence challenges but not too amazing at controlling games!

I think Odd was hinting at a design failure 🤔... but the BTR thing could just be a game issue not an IRL one.

the reason why there is a random flying smoke at 8:48 is that since the La Royale update, for some reason, smoke shell are bouncing off, even when you shoot them on the ground, so some might have shot it on a hill and it poped mid-air
Yeah, it was a great and fun surprise to shoot smoke rounds in front of me for cover only to have them bounce 300m away.
This is a real thing that happens. Have seen it with WP rounds when they are shot at a really low elevation and hit soft ground at a shallow angle. They’ll ricochet and fly off to never-never land in a big plume of smoke and fire.
I had this happen the other day - shot a smoke round and it ricochet up at a 45 degree angle and then exploded about 200ft in the air. So. Stupid.
That shit is incredibly annoying. I was wondering when they made that change. Awful.

It seems terrible :/ slow, no depression, no turret.
It’s actually quite good. It has quite good mobility cause it’s a T-54 chassis, the 122 uses the same APCBC as the IS series BR-471D which is no joke, but it also gets access to HEATFS with 400mm of pen and an APDS round which honestly doesn’t have that much utility cause if you need the extra pen you can just use the heat and if you don’t the APCBC is obviously better damage wise than APDS. The frontal armor is angled enough that you can bounce a surprising amount t of shots at distance which is where this thing shines because it has a rangefinder. And for pesky planes, open tops, and lightly armored stuff you get not 1 but 2 KPVT 14.5 millimeter HMG’s. Which I wish every Russian vehicle had but alas.

L-44 gets dominated in uptiers and by t-55amD and am1. Just buy the Leo 2a4 for the better awards
I personally would go with the Leopard 1, lower tier, less of a clusterfuck if you get uptiered, especially caswise, and it is overall a pretty good tank, does decently in uptiers, it is a monster in downtiers and is above avg especially with the bigger gun.
I havent tried the Leopard 2 prem, but I have the tech tree variant and the event one av2 or something I think, and they are fairly survivable and decent tanks, they do well hull down and are more survivable than the Leo1 if you use them right, downside is uptiers, more top tier murder machines, and cas from hell.
Trust me, if you intend to grind, the Leo1 is the more enjoyable and compared to its peers the better option.
@@johnjimmy8385nless you already have other vehicles to fill a 10.3 lineup which, let’s be honest, is not the case; you should probably go for the L/44. Purely based on the fact that you can be more of a help to your team by bringing the TAM 2IP or another tech tree vehicle in your lineup. No one likes a 1 death leaver, and a 2 death leaver (with a backup) is not much better. All in my opinion, feel free to disagree.
to me the BTR feels like the M3 Bradley if it traded it’s TOWs for a 1.0 br reduction

This unironically does does notable better at 8.3 and up, i run it as my 2nd spawn after a t55
I run it with my T-55AM-1 and it fares so much better at 8.7~9.7 especially against TAM'S, Leo's, marders and patrons.
Great video, as always! This vehicle might perform better at higher BRs, where there are more light things.
BTW - crew voices are giving useful information sometimes, like "Tank, 10 o'clock, 1300m" etc. Of course you have to speak the language ...
You should play the t54(1949) it was recently downtiered to 7.3 with 100mm aphe and apds. Absolutely busted 😂

😂 The smoke in the air could’ve been a smoke shell that ricocheted, sometimes the shells don’t pop when it hits the ground but pops in the air.

It actually isn't the same autocannon as the bmp2. The bmp2 uses the 2a42, which has an option to use a higher fire rate that they for some reason don't use in warthunder, whereas, the btr80A has the 2a72, which is a lighter, simplified variant with a lower number of parts, a longer barrel, and higher muzzle velocity, but also a lower rate of fire. It is long recoil-operated, not gas-operated. The bmp3 most likely opts to use it since it's more of a secondary weapon and a higher fire rate is not worth the extra weight and complexity. The new BTR-90s use the bmp2 cannon, the 2a42.

I actually quite like it, it's a great scout and I've found that it is extremely fast as well, and drives quite smooth considering. Plus it makes a great close in SPAA, my only gripe is the reverse gear honestly

I shoot 25 to 50 m out in front of me and they sometimes don’t even go off. The shells blow up but theres no smoke anywhere… like a dud

if there is one thing i can say about german mains, as was shown in ur first game, they overpush all the time just take ur caps and let them come to u or they will take the caps back behind you now you have enemies in front of you and behind you, great job, i kno it may be annoying but every match i start with a message "dont overpush" then you get someone that says "shut up" and he ends up getting killed right away and leaving after one kill....good job pal...todays raining and i have no work here comes 12 hours of WT

It is only a 30mm cannon after all. The M3 Bradley at 8.0 gets 25mm APDS with similar levels of penetration as well.

Odd you should play the Strv m/42 EH, it’s got a 75mm APHE round with more explosive mass then an IS-2 round iirc.
Yep! 260g explosive filler for the Strv and 246.4g equivalent for the IS-2 👍
