    Shame Super Mario Land 2 is so low, I can see why comparatively but I love how charming and genuinely weird it is. Not to mention, the worlds are beaten in a somewhat non-linear format, and centers around Mario working towards his own personal gain instead of someone else's(but still in a constructive way), which are two nice twists on the usual formula.

    This actually turned out to be a really interesting video! I take back any minor doubts :)
    Also, it's about time I subscribed!
    Despite not being Copycat's ranking, it is still a ranking one and there were some opinions present. Also, I promised to put my ranking of the games included in my comment on the poll, so, here we go! (Time for another long comment...)
    *ranking NOT final
    24. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Only played a little bit of this. It's fun so far, I'll have to come back to it sometime! ?/10
    23. Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels - I have not made it past World 2! This game is very hard! It does like to troll you a lot with multiple paths, Hidden Blocks, crazy jumps and enemy placement, a deadly Mushroom, and "reverse Warp Zones" to take you BACK worlds. This all isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it can be at times. It could beat SML or SML2 in theory if I got further in this game, but not too likely. I don't dislike this game (so far) like some do though. ?/10*
    22. Super Mario Sunshine - I've only played a few levels of this, enough to place it above Lost Levels, but that's it. It's fun so far though, and pretty unique too. I'm definitely going to play more of this in the future, and then we'll see how it truly ranks! ?/10* (Fav song: Delfino Plaza)
    21. Super Mario Run - Yes, the story mode is short, but Remix 10 is pretty fun. Also, the Blue/Purple/Black Coins in levels provide some challenge. I've only played the first world as I haven't bought the full version. Toad Rally is fun too, and I like collecting parts to build my kingdom, and that there's no microtransactions. I really like it for a free Mario game! 7/10
    20. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - This game is very pretty, charming, and innovative. I haven't made it through World 3 yet, but so far, I'm quite impressed. This game has the potential to be much higher than it currently is! 7.5/10* (Fav song: Athletic)
    19. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - This game is quite unique. It's pretty easy, but the final level, Wario's Castle, comes out of nowhere with its difficulty. I haven't beat the final level yet, but I will try to soon. Despite being so low, this game is pretty good, and it could be a spot or two higher if I replay it someday. 7.5/10
    18. Super Mario Bros. 2 - I never could make it past World 1 until recently. Now I've been to World 5. This game surprised me as to how fun it can be. It is very strange in level design and execution, which is what makes it good. It's also pretty difficult too. My only gripe is that the controls are very slippery and it's easy to fall off a platform or enemy and die simply because of this. Nevertheless, this game is fun and unique and if I ever finish it, it'll probably rise a spot or two! 7.5/10* (Fav song: Overworld)
    17. Super Mario Land - Sorry guys, I actually like the original SML better than the second! I had fun playing this on my phone, learning the fidgety controls and weird level design. Sure, it's very short, but the strangeness alone makes me put it in this spot! It took me several runs to beat the game, as a few sections can be pretty tricky (looking at you, 4-2). Also, the music is quite catchy and pretty good for just being 4-bit. I have also truly 100% completed this game! 7.5/10 (Fav song: Birabuto Kingdom)
    16. Super Mario Bros. - I must confess, I can't beat this game! Even with the warp to World 4, then the warp to World 8, 8-1 and 8-2 get me every time! I know you can hold A after a Game Over to retry the world, but no one did that back in the day, so it just feels like a cheap exploit. So I haven't beaten it or played all the levels, so if I ever get to do this it'll probably beat #15 (unless I play MM more). This is the true classic Mario game, the one that cemented him in our minds and put him on the podium! And it's still a fun adventure to this day! If you've never played this game, now's the time. Everyone should play this piece of history at least once! 8/10 (Fav song: Overworld)
    15. Super Mario Maker - Sorry guys, I haven't played this one all that much. I've made a few levels, played some, and have enjoyed it, but my lack of experience with it means it won't be very high. This is my brother's favorite game though, so I do have a passive relationship watching him play it a lot. Just because I haven't played it much doesn't mean I don't like it much though. This lets you make your own levels and share them for crying out loud! 8/10*
    14. Super Mario Bros. 3 - This one and SMW are both very innovative, complete, well-polished Mario games that have gone down in history as some of the best in the franchise. I haven't completed this game yet, as I'm currently in World 7 (this world is nuts), and even if I do finish it, I owe it a replay to cement my placement of it. It has been quite a fun adventure so far, aside from a couple levels that felt like trolls. Speaking of trolls, I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to make the Mushrooms and Stars jump off the Blocks the opposite side you're on. This is infuriating at times, but it's just a nitpick more than anything. Just wanted to point that out as no one seems to mention it. Other than that, this is a great game and if you haven't played it already, what are you waiting for? The world's kingdoms are at stake! 8.5/10* (Fav song: Overworld)
    13. Super Mario World - I have not finished this game yet, I'm currently on Wendy's Castle. This game really pushed the limits of what a Mario game can be, throwing in tons of unique level design, charm, and secrets, mashed with some quite challenging levels (like the aforementioned Wendy's Castle). While the Koopalings are easy, probably even more so than many of their fights in the Newer Series, they have much more unique patterns than in SMB3, which makes them more memorable. When I finally finish this game and play most of to all the levels, I can bet this will climb higher in my rankings, but for now, it's posted here. 8.5/10* (Fav song: Overworld)
    12. New Super Mario Bros. U - This game has much more creativity than its 3DS counterpart, and more difficulty as well. Pretty much everything said about NSMBW applies here as well. The reason this one's lower is I haven't had the lots of nostalgia playing it when really young. Also, I've only played through this game once. After I do a no power-ups/checkpoints challenge, it might climb the rankings, but it's up against some stiff competition! I recommend getting this for the Switch, as it comes with Luigi U as well, which I enjoy just as much as this game! 8.5/10 (Fav song: Overworld)
    11. Paper Mario - The first and currently the only Paper Mario game I've played. This game is fun, unique, innovative, has a great story, characters, battles, and puzzles. I haven't beat it yet, but I'm close. After completing this game, I may bump it up a spot or two, but it'll be hard to beat NSMB2 and the nostalgia and many hours associated with it. But this game really makes me want to play the other Paper Mario games, even Sticker Star. 8.5/10* (Fav song: Battle Theme)
    Wow I got a "comment is too long" message! Check out the top 10 below:

    • @Wesley-76
      @Wesley-76 Před 3 lety +4

      10. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Yes, it wasn't the most innovative game. Sure, most of its levels were easy. But I have had lots of fun with this game! Strangely, it has never been more fun to collect Coins, as having a universal Coin counter and a goal of 1 million (or 9,999,999) Coins helps make them much more fun to collect! And they're everywhere! After 100%ing the game, you get to visit Toad Houses to get infinite Gold Flowers, so you can use one on each level. I like keeping up with my Coin records on each level and replaying them and strategizing to see if I can beat my record. The DLC packs are fun too, and some, namely, Gold Classics and Mystery Adventures Packs, have some really cool and unique levels, and the Nerve-Rack Pack gives some of that difficulty back the main game was lacking. Also, just Impossible Pack. That's for everyone who says this game is too easy. Just try and beat Impossible Pack, good luck! Also, this was fun to replay with a no power-up/checkpoint challenge, and total my deaths. (I died 101 time total; I will replay again someday and try to beat that!) Also, I've 100%ed this game (except for Impossible Pack). So yeah, I understand if you don't really like this game, but I have lots of fun with it despite its few flaws. 8.5/10 (Fav song: Athletic)
      9. Super Mario 3D Land - I like the idea of simple, linear levels turned into 3D form, especially for a handheld. This game was fun when I was young and still fun now. Many of the levels aren't very difficult, but the special worlds have their share of challenging levels, especially S8-Crown and S7-4. It also introduced the concept of remaking previous stages to make them harder, something which I enjoy if the remake is changed enough or a lot harder (like adding a Cosmic Clone, for example). I found it was quite fun to attempt to 100% this game again doing the no power-ups/checkpoints challenge, then totaling my death count. If you own a 3DS and don't have this game, why do you even have a 3DS? 9/10 (Fav song: Overworld)
      8. Super Mario 64 - This is currently the Dark Horse in my rankings, making its way up the positions. I didn't get to play this game for the longest time, so by the time I got 3D All-Stars, I was more than ready to play this true classic! I haven't completed the game yet, and without nostalgic value, this game isn't nearly as high as many other's lists. But that's not to say I like this game any less than those people! I'd go through the strengths of this game, but that's already been stated a hundred times. Everything said applies here! The camera is annoying at times, but not awful. I can see this placing higher once I get all the Stars, and maybe replay it someday, but for now, it's 8th. 9/10* (Fav song: Dire Dire Docks)
      7. New Super Mario Bros. Wii - One of my first Mario games and my first Mario platformer, NSMBW truly delivered! It improves on the DS version, adds 4-player support (which me, my bro, and my dad took advantage of), gives lots of fun levels, new power-ups, brings back Koopalings, some bopping music, and so on. I don't really have much else to say here except that it's a great game, and I can't wait to return to it yet again to do a no power-up challenge! 9/10 (Fav song: Overworld)
      6. Super Mario Maker 2 - Now I'd probably have this game higher if I played it more, and even now this spot is not solid. I've played a decent amount of it, but since it has so much to offer, I don't think my opinion is solid yet. This is almost a direct upgrade to the original (except without Mystery Mushrooms sadly) where the creativity never ends! Build your own Mario levels in one of 5 styles, share them online, and play other's courses! Throw in Online Multiplayer, offline multiplayer, Endless Challenge, Story Mode, and Ninji Speedruns, and the fun never ends! 9/10
      5. New Super Mario Bros. - The return to 2D Mario was well appreciated, and it started a great sub-series, too! We got 8 worlds of classic levels with new twists, power-ups, bosses, and music. Now in terms of just the main game alone, NSMB is actually my least favorite New Series game (not to say it's bad at all), but what really drives this one up the list for me is the Mario vs Luigi mode, which is some of the most fun I've ever had with any video game! It's a shame this hasn't made a return yet, but we can be thankful it exists in the first place! Only 5 stages, ruuuules are simple, but this mode is worth getting the game along, assuming you have someone like my bro to play with! But of course, even without this mode, this game is still a great one! 9/10 (Fav song: Overworld or Castle)
      4. Super Mario 3D World - This game took what 3D Land did and made it even better! The levels are unique and fun, bosses are fun too (we even have a Boss Rush at long last), music is great, it's got that Mario charm, it has unique characters, and the challenge of getting all the collectables and completing every stage with every character. Some may complain about the generally easy story mode, but even easier Mario games have their challenges, especially when you do a no power-up/checkpoint challenge! Also, the special worlds say hi to your "easy difficulty" complaints! I'd love to play the Switch version with Bowser's Fury (which COULD bump this game up a place) so if I ever get it, I'll be sure to update this! 9.5/10 (Fav song: Super Bell Hill)
      3. Super Mario Galaxy 2 - If Galaxy 1 didn't give that unique feeling, I'd be much more torn as to which to put higher. But that unique feeling of Galaxy 1 (which you'll see below) gives it the edge for me. But Galaxy 2 still invokes its own feeling. The levels are a bit different this time around, and (at least for me) are generally harder, which I like. Everything good about Galaxy is present in this game (except for the story) too. The Green Star postgame just adds even more to do into this game! Then you've got the Grandmaster Galaxy, which started the trend of Super Mario games (bar NSMBU, it had the crazy Challenge Mode instead) to make the very last level as insanely long and difficult as possible, to put your Mario skills to The Ultimate Test! (get it?) Amazing follow-up; would love to see a Galaxy 3 someday! 10/10 (Fav song: Main Theme/Sky Station Galaxy)
      2. Super Mario Galaxy - What can I say that hasn't been said already? Well, aside from the amazing innovation, level design, soundtrack, story and background, charm, and challenges, Super Mario Galaxy seems to give a feeling that no other video game, not even Galaxy 2, does. It has a sort of open, mysterious feel of space, somewhat creepy and dangerous at times, but also relaxing and beautiful other times. Galaxies like Good Egg, Battlerock, Melty Molten, Matter Splatter, and Dreadnaught really drive the mysterious space-ness feeling home, while others like Honeyhive, Gusty Garden, and Beach Bowl give that more relaxing, welcoming feeling. Ah, I'm just rambling on about feelings that this digital piece of technology gives. But still, great game! 10/10 (Fav song: Good Egg Galaxy)
      1. Super Mario Odyssey - This really is a near-perfect game. It is packed with charm, tons of innovation, secrets, awesome gameplay and level design, challenges, a stellar soundtrack, fun bosses, references, collectables, etc. Some don't like the sheer amount of collectables, but I think that adds to its replay value and just makes the game even better. You think you've scoured the entire kingdom when behold, there's a spot you missed, or a Moon hidden in plain sight! Also, gotta love the addition of 2 songs with lyrics, one being the game's main theme. This is something not seen in the Mario franchise and this really helps set Odyssey apart! 10/10 (Fav kingdom: Wooded, fav song: Jump Up, Super Star!)

    I am surprised by the really high score for Sunshine too. Having played it recently in 3D All-Stars, yeah, there are a handful of required Shines that are shockingly poorly designed, and the controls and physics are not what they should be. It may be cuz platformers were nearly non-existent in 2002, but it has aged much worse than Mario 64, despite the latter being six years older. It has the potential to be another masterpiece, but it was rushed a bit, and it shows by lacking the polish of most other entries.

    I feel like if you ranked games based on your opinion and not Metacritic I would have liked it better. Sure that's not as unique, but it would be more objective, as reviews are also largely impacted by the history. For example, you said that NSMB Wii was better than NSMB DS, but it was ranked higher, because the reviews at the time wouldn't hold up as well. I wouldn't rank Paper Mario 1 as high on this list, what with all the other games out there, (Thousand Year Door, *ahem*) but obviously it was the first of its kind when it was likely reviewed.

    • @Griffintendo
      @Griffintendo Před 2 lety +2

      Personally, I have played the Wii U Virtual Console version of Paper Mario on N64; Super Paper Mario, which I first played as a young kid and couldn't figure out how to beat until years later; Color Splash, which I received for my 2017 birthday (along with Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, ugh) and ended up 100% completing; and finally The Origami King, which I have probably completed about a quarter of since my 2020 birthday and haven't really played in a year or so. Out of those games, Super is the most nostalgic and my personal favorite, followed by 64 for being objectively the best after TTYD (which I haven't played), then CS, which has a flawed battle system and is really only saved by the music and writing, and last would be TOK, which I haven't felt much desire to revisit and honestly has an even worse and more confusing battle system.
      As for the final thing you said, fortunately the original Paper Mario is going to be available on NSO + Expansion Pack. Less fortunately, we have no idea if/when GameCube or Wii games aside from Mario 3D All-Stars will be released on Switch.

    The forced perspective from the camera killed me so many times in 3D World. And there were several levels that were half-baked and level segments that were completely pointless.

    I easily have put over 200 hours into super paper Mario between when I was a kid, replaying as a teenager, and replaying as an adult with my husband. I’d like to replay it again one day with my daughter as well. I don’t know why, but it’ll always be my favourite game

    Yo I still have my NES running on my tv and play it often. Super Mario 3 is the best game I will say.

    I want them to make more paper Mario games without stupid gimmicks. I absolutely hate the origami king’s battle system but the world and story are good just give me the old battle system back.

    @jackcooney1651 Před 2 lety +1

    Sticker star brought a lot new. The entire battle system (bad change), the art style leans much heavier on the paper aesthetic (great change), and the music style is also pretty different (good change). The battle style was what ruined the game for most.

      Because 10/10 in video games doesn’t mean perfect because no game is perfect. It just means it’s really damn good.

    Mario when he gets an 8.9/10- And I took that personally

    While I understand that _Hotel Mario_ was probably excluded because it wasn't on a Nintendo console, and _Mario Bros._ because it's an arcade game, but why weren't _Mario's Time Machine_ and _Mario Clash_ included (besides being no-brainers for the bottom of the list)? Also, even though it's technically not a separate game per-say, I think _Bowser's Fury_ should've at least had an honorable mention.

    Super Mario World is the best Mario game. Just 2D perfection. No other Mario game has had a better HUB/Map/World. Wish the newer games did something similar to this. The SMB3 reused style of map has become really stale.

    Hello, I have a few things to say and forgive me for making this a long review but my Asperger's Syndrome and OCD are just part of my need to be thorough, first I think that given the fact that the actual "Super Mario Bros 2(Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels)" is now available on the switch in both the SNES All Stars Version which is a game Playable on the SNES Gaming app of the "Nintendo Switch" and is also available on the NES Game app which is more true to the actual game than the SNES All Stars Version people should try playing it even if they do like I do and use the "Frame Rewind Function"(don't ask me to describe it exactly I just know that if you press and hold L&R on the switch controller you can reverse to a previous spot you were playing) to make the game easier by avoiding loosing a power-up or saving time on the maze mechanics(though I just looked up the right direction online through play-through videos), they might give the game a higher rating so you may want to at some point re-examine this category and even though you don't generally include the "Superstar Saga" and other various Mario Titles(one of which should be the Original Donkey Kong, as it was the first game Mario was in) especially as new Mario Games are made, and on that note you may want to do a video on Unique titles featuring Mario whether they be that Basketball Game that has Mario as a playable character, one from the aforementioned Superstar Saga, or even the "Mario and Sonic" at the Olympics games just to show how far Nintendo has tried to involve Mario in Gaming, second I understand that people were upset with some of the Mario Titles because the games were "Too Easy to start" but I think that for game player's like me who want to finish the game but don't want to rip there hair out because it is "Too Hard" that Nintendo should either resume releasing cheat devices like the old "Game-Shark" or the "Action Replay" which while sometimes causing glitches can make the game more fun as you now can do/have everything in it without driving yourself crazy trying to get it, which is especially good for people like me and for that matter for parents of young game player's who's kids start yelling at them because they can't "Win/Beat the Game" and don't want to see their kids break the expensive system or make them throw out the newly bought one, third I just want to remind you that one thing I'd love to see in your videos is a comparison of the various versions of the Mario Games, as in for example comparing the SNES and the Switch's NES version of "Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels" to see the differences, whether they be graphics, music, or game-play itself in the 2 versions, just as I'd like you to do the same for the American version of "Super Mario Bros 2" from its original version of "Doki Doki Panic" to the NES version to the SNES version in "Super Mario All Stars" to the version for the "Gameboy Advanced" as there are several differences in both graphics and game-play in all 4 versions including in the case of World 5-3 the music played in certain spots, so please don't let me down and if you want I can write an article about this for "Pittverse Magazine" which I write for as it is for people like me who have Autism and that does get a lot of readers, one last thing I think that one thing you may want to make a video on is about the different TV/Movies made based on the Mario Character such as the Anime: "Super Mario Brothers: Peach-hime Kyuushutsu Daisakusen! English Subbed(www.thewatchcartoononline.tv/super-mario-brothers-peach-hime-kyuushutsu-daisakusen-english-subbed)" or the TV Series "The Super Mario Brothers Super Show" to the 1993 Movie with Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi and Dennis Hopper as Kopa, plus any other film releases ever made including live action and cartoons
