    It seems like movies nowadays can never repeat the feelings that movies like Casper, Jumanji or Hook gave us. Take the Jumanji sequels for example, they have adventure, action, great effects but they seem to lack a real heart to them. It's strange how all these movies from my childhood always left me feeling a wide range of mixed emotions, happiness, sadness and most of all sensibility.

      Its because Hollywood forgot about plot and character development in favor of CGI and fast paced action. There are a few movies that follow the tradition of actually having a good story arch. Most unfortunately, forget that a good score and story are the essentials of a good movie with relatable characters. It makes me sad that the era of cinema has crashed, as far as I'm concerned.

      It should be of note that For Casper and Hook at least, Stephen spielberg was behind the scene, even today i can identify a spielberg film without seeing his name just because of the style and or feeling the story takes.

      Kat won't join him if she dies without unfinished business, which is kind of the point. She'll cross over and be in Heaven with her parents, and any other loved ones who went before her without unfinished business.
      I do like to hope, though, that Casper crossed over too and rejoined his own family. Perhaps after Kat left the manor to go out into the world and build her adult life, or after she married and had children of her own, or even when she grew into an elderly lady and Casper knew she wouldn't be around for much longer.
      Casper's unfinished business was his father, and Kat helped him to remember that and process it. I think that after that, he could've crossed over whenever he chose to.

    am I the only one that gets teary eyed when I hear the haunting piano lullaby. It's cathartic and the nostalgia is overwhelming. It's this strong joy and sadness washing over me when I hear it. My childhood. It's like the movie hook, Robin Williams as an adult, who lost his magic and view of the world as a tired, adult. But reverts into that child with the magic for a brief moment but it's temporary. It's like seeing a spirit of your younger self as a child showing up speaking too, you telling you everything will be alright and all these childhood memories wash over you and joy but then the child spirit of you has to leave and disappears and you're like "no where are you going, don't leave" and then the deep sadness with the great joy that came. Such a great time in my life during the 90s and casper and such movies

    CASPER FACTS: Casper's mother (Mary Anne Mcfadden) passed away giving birth to him, he grows up to 12 years old with his father and asks for a sled in December in 1895. His father buys the sled and Casper plays with it until night time, and he gets VERY sick, he then passes away from pneumonia before Christmas, and doesn't move on because he doesn't want to leave his dad. His father (J.T Mcfadden) then becomes obsessed as an inventor trying to create resurrection to bring his son back to life and comes up with the Lazerous. He lives in a manor at the head of the friendship town and people can hear and see things at night at his house that are weird; flashing lights, hoots and hollers, whirring and buzzing. He is arrested one night when he is so close to testing his invention to bring Casper back. He is then committed to an insane asylum where he is forced to live the rest of his days getting treated for an illness he doesnt have and being told Casper is not a ghost and that he is crazy over the death over his son. Casper then begins to lose his memories and only wants a friend and he rest is in the 1995 release of Casper. It is suck a beautiful movie.

      @Sorvea Před 7 lety +107

      I think when Casper's father was taken into custody, the manor went up for auction, and Carrigan's relatives might have purchased it at a discounted price, but no-one could live in it due to it being haunted, just like she was trying to get in to get the treasure. Her family might have tried to sell it, but no-one wanted to buy it, so that's why all their belongings are still inside.

    • @Sorvea
      @Sorvea Před 7 lety +41

      ***** It's a theory I came up with, because our family use to buy houses at auction (before the housing crash) and it would be sold "As Is", meaning all their stuff would be inside, because not many relatives wanted to deal with sorting through their stuff. They might take an item or two that they wanted, but that would be it. You'd be surprised at some of the stuff that was found.

      The reveal on what happened to Casper was so well done, they brought together visual clues and thoughtful monologue perfectly. It made this way deeper than just a kids' movie. I've heard some people say that this movie is cheesy, with the jokes and stuff...I don't think it's necessarily cheesy, it's just dated. I've also heard complaints that the plot is disjointed, but I think it works - watching it now 20 years after I first watched it, it seems like it goes by a lot faster, but the pacing is consistent. It has more of a slice-of-life feel in some places than just a perfectly streamlined narrative, which is fine. It makes you ask a lot of questions and care about the characters very quickly. I'm sitting here thinking like, what's going to happen as Kat gets older, will she wait for him? Will this happen every Halloween? Every time he does a good deed? Or will he have to look on as she gets boyfriends or married, and grows apart from him? Almost as soon as they meet, he's faced with her being interested in "real" boys. There could be a lot of tension there especially since he was raised in an earlier time period, with different standards for courtship ages and methods. And it seems like she only has romantic interest in him when he's corporeal at the dance. What happened later that night, after the dad went to bed? How awkward would that be, like, "Well, we just kissed, but now I'm a ghost again..." He loves her, but what if she was just using him for the dance? GAH, this has so many layers, too deep for a kids' movie!! *collapses*

      I was just thinking about this movie a couple of days ago as I was going through some comments down here.
      In the end of the movie, everyone was able to get their unfinished business done. Doctor Harvey was able to understand where his wife was and what she became.
      Kat learned how to make friends and got the whole school’s attention with the Halloween party.
      Casper was able to be human just for one night and I believe that he eventually understood that he needed to crossover and I truly believe that Dr. Harvey helped him with that process.
      I guess that was hard for him crossing over since he would miss Kat but at the same time I have the feeling that Casper promised her that they would be friends for all eternity.
      Kat in the other hand understood that Casper was suffering for many years being a ghost and accepted the fact the he needed to leave and cross over. I am not quite sure about Casper’s uncles since they always were disturbed ghosts but I believe that most of them were able to find their final destination and find themselves.
      It’s really sad but it’s the only theory that makes sense to me.

    When I hear the melody line in the piano I can’t help but picture parents looking through the toys of their children after they have died. The notes bring out a specific kind of sadness associated with the death of a child. The continual high notes reflecting the innocent hope of a child, not fully grasping what was happening. “Dad got really sad” is such a telling line with how old Casper was and how little he really understood about his circumstance. But it also holds that sweetness of paternal love that never fades even after death. Kat’s mother stating that she is always watching over her family is really driven home with the melody as well. Gosh I love the melody of this score. It just kills me. (Pun intended)

      Notice the conversation between the clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and flute, they represent the child, mother, father, and GOD, the vocals are the angels singing in welcome. The piano represents the sadness of the moment.

But when I hear music like this, for a brief second, takes me back to happier times. I cry. I smile. But mostly I cry. He broke me so badly and all I wanted was for him to love me. Mine too. I've changed so much as a person in the last few years. I'm not at all the same guy I was. But, its given me experiences I wouldn't have had otherwise either. I know that death is very different from divorce. But, loss can afford us different things. Not better...it doesn't have to be better. Just different. And you can be as happy again.

    Rest in peace maestro. I grew up with your music appreciating the range of emotions you inflicted on each note. I always wished that I could have met you one day and could have collaborated on a project of my own. But now, sadly that will never happen, and we're only left with your wonderful legacy to remember.

The emotions were honestly so high! 💖😢 The nostalgia and also the journey of this incredible film really got to me - a timeless tale! I love this era of films! It felt like time stood still when watching this film and a wave of calm, peace but also sadness, loss & innocence washed over me... it also reminded me how amazing this soundtrack is!

    I was going to say I miss my childhood hearing this song, but....I realized that even if I miss it, I wouldn't want to go back.
    Why? Because back then I didn't live all I lived until today, all the people I met, all the things I've done, wouldn't exist.
    And right now, what I really wish is to, one day, share this with my children, just like my mother did with me.

      No I’ve never had it easy or carefree. There were instances it felt like it for a few moments but when u have a schizophrenic parent, there’s no such thing as “peace” like an army vet, u never know what to expect. Go from affectionate and sweet to degrading and hitting my head against the floor at any given moment. Thanks to Nickelodeon and Super Nintendo I got to transport myself into other worlds (temporarily) I wanted to be like Timmy, live in the country with perfect parents and a beautiful collie and in my imagination sometimes I did

    I've seen comments for this piece of music, of people saying that listening to this feels like you're getting a hug from your childhood memories on your worst days", or it makes you long desperately to go back to better times, and honestly i couldn't sum up this piece of music anymore perfectly. The late Horner composed such a beautiful soundtrack for this film and this track was the stand out. ***** If you can love someone you've never met and have never known, you are only in love with a projection of yourself. Your 'love' is nothing more than a form of narcissism or psychological masturbation.
      You're in love with a construct of your own mind's making. You're in love with yourself essentially.

    • @admi908
      @admi908 Před 9 lety

      Marcara081 D'you remember the phenomenon of the '' love at first sight "? or do you think that all people fall in love only after living and fully met someone? I went over.
      When I fell in love with Christy, aesthetically She was not even my ideal type of woman!
      Apart from the fact that it is not that I like just her outward appearance, but how She moves, how She speaks and informing me, even the things She says and her sense of irony.
      Love nowadays is considered only as an accessory to sex. I don't think this. For me the love, the real one, resists and goes beyond the inability to fuck and have to deal with the person . If you love a person you are not selfish and want only her happiness, and I know that I will never see her and be with Her.
      Is not that I pretend to be her boyfriend, attention. I love Her and I just want Her happiness. If I thought that my happiness and the desire to "have Her" is more important that Her happiness, then I would be selfish.
      Mine is not psychologial masturbation or mind's making. And then, I don't even love myself so is not narcissism too.
      Loving Christy is the best thing ever happened to me, and I'm happy when I think of Her and She makes me doing so much art too.
