Yeah & Buddy had to roll up the pants on the right leg so as not to get caught over the extended spring holder. In my opinion, solid versus split footboard is a matter of preference. Try both see what you like.
Excellent tutorial! I enjoy your playing. Curious, is that a needle bearing version or is that a later CBS era version with bronze bushings? I have both and when cleaned and lubed, the needle bearing version, is superior. I have mine on a '48 RK kit because I too, believe that It's BR's favorite too! Have you ever seen the 1950 Slingy HH pedal with hidden clock springs? Slingerland was trying all ideas. I'm a player since '69 Cheers!
I’m just curious. Can the height of your drum throne effect your playing? I see the videos of Buddy playing and I see that his drum throne is set up a few inches below the top of the bass drum.
Can it? IT DOES. Posture and ergonomics are a subject I discuss elsewhere and mention again 2 times in this clip. Height and angle of your thigh and calf.
Understandable, your knowledge of Buddy is incredible and I myself throw in a few Buddy licks now and again. Do you play like him all the time or have your own style?
I've played in pop, rock, country, disco, polka and club date bands. I've played with duos, trios and quartets as well as Chicago, B,S&T type bands. I've played for singers, jugglers, strippers and broadway shows. I don't think I play like Buddy Rich at all, people like you think I do. I played drums to make music, all kinds of music, not to impress other drummers.
I dont blame you for not putting anymore out..can i just say what you have put out is pretty priceless and has opened my eyes after watching hundreds. Thankyou Dick !
I can see why Buddy loved that pedal.

That was useful, I'm going to raise my throne because I'm struggling! Thank you!
Ergonomics....they work.

Love this video! Thank you! Are you actually using your toes or ball of your foot? Hard to see with your shoes on :)
Toe and you're welcome.
This is a brilliant video thanks!
Do you think it's possible to develop this speed without practicing on an actual pedal? If so, how?
Thank you Mr. Cully. You’re the master! What is your spring tension on the bass drum pedal?
Moderate, about half way down the threads.
Dick Cully Thank you sir! Best regards!

I don't know about everybody else but being a little higher up on my throne helped my hi hat foot go faster.
Why don't you put new videos out?
Because no one is paying me for the old ones.
