I don’t think it’s a bad thing to mention that they rehearsed beforehand! I think we should consume segments like these through a critical lens because truthfully, any professional will rehearse and practice many times before performing. It shows all of us who are learning to sing that we all do the same s*%# behind the scenes and that we can all learn!! :)

It just seemed like he was more focused on being negative about what he didn't like, rather than actually focusing on the content. Obviously it's rehearsed, but that wasn't the point of watching the video is all. I think people were just upset because they wanted him to have fun with it but it just sounded like he was complaining most of the time. Absolutely no hate to Tristan however, I just understand where people were coming from. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed too because it felt like he wasn't able to enjoy it because he was hyperfixating on this detail.

i agree its clearly rehearsed (which a lot of late night tv is) but you definitely were mentioning it every 5 seconds which did kinda get annoying

Fans should chill tbh. It's not like we're being rude to these singers or questioning their abilities! It's just that this show was obviously rehearsed.

Just wanted to say just because someone adds a run in a song doesn't necessary mean that particular run was rehearsed if you have a good sense of rhythmic timing, you can generally ad runs where you know they fit. For example, I am a drummer and I think of runs as equivalent to a fill. If I'm playing a song that I don't know for the first time, but that song is in a style that I'm used to playing I can usually use whatever fills I'm used to playing in that particular style and apply it to the song that I don't know (within reason). I could be wrong because im not a singer but ive worked with a lot of singers and musicians that improvise a lot.

Idk if it’s well known but riffing is not planned for a lot of people. When you learn changes or hear songs (with similar or the same chords) you develop go to licks. Especially anyone with soul/jazz background will know that improvisation over chord changes is part of music.

I find it interesting that you say their runs are rehearsed. Growing up in a black gospel singing church we were constantly doing riffs and runs on the fly. I can honestly say that I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve rehearsed riffs and runs. Maybe it just comes with the style of music, but I thought that was interesting.
I think it isn't comparable. Cause in this show they have live band playing and it's impossible for the band to know when someone is hitting a certain riff and how they have to handle it. Like idk maybe it is okay for professionals. I have no doubt that if they were singing with no background music, they can interpolate as many runs as they wish, they're all hella talented and CAN sing on demand but these shows are scripted to avoid messing things up. They all have strict schedule and probably have places to be, so they can't just stay on show and sing until they get stuff right.
