- Van'S RV-6 C-GIPY is seen on the approach and and performing a rather hard and bumpy landing at CZNL in Nelson, British Columbia. It was nice to see this great looking aircraft in its yellow livery performing this firm landing. The aircraft was visiting Nelson as part of the Century Flight Club, a cross-Canada general aviation tour.
Not every landing is a "winner". We've all been there. I thought he recovered pretty well.
@@barisyildirim4167 "permanent damage in the structure". Nonsense. The gear barely flexes on touchdown
@@ronouimet4662 Yes and probably the landing was "fast" more than "hard".
@@barisyildirim4167 Wow....the only pilot on earth who never had a bad landing. Kudos.
Jean-Luc Coulon I think he was trying to do a wheel landing, which you need a little more speed than on a 3-Point.
landed 3 times to make one....but then...any landing you can walk away from
great recovery, little blip on the power, and then settle it on. didn't panic. good flying
We've all been that guy when someone was watching, and will be again at some point. Hope no one has a camera when it's my turn again !😉
You did well. Nice recovery.
Just a minor bounce followed up by an excellent recovery by the pilot.
Flared at an altitude of about minus 2' AGL, but a great save with a touch of throttle.
Caught it at the last second. Considering his recovery, he did very well!!
I'd probably put myself down for 4 landings in my logbook.
How to get current in one approach! The FAA HATES this trick
(Ignore the fact he's in a tailwheel)
stabilized approach, got lifted down low maybe twice. Pilot knew he was high, but could get in down on the runway and feathered the throttle to make it work when failed flare dropped hard. Excellent. The pilot had this.
Great recovery. Didn't over control that little squirrel.
Nice recovery. I’m fresh in my RV6 and out of the 15 landings I’ve done half are good. Look down runway is the key I finally had to re click over and over again.
My pick is he was going for a wheeler landing (Hence the limited flare and higher speed) but misjudged it and it bounced. Done it plenty of times myself (I much prefer 3 pointers in my aircraft!) and its not really a heavy landing. He could have chosen to go around, but had plenty of runway left to recover and re-land as a 3 pointer. The joys of tailwheel aircraft!
K1W1fly ... It's called FNF... F#@k, No Flair!
nicely recovered, no big deal
Great control. Nice flying.title of this video is a bit misleading
Yeah...I've done a "hard landing" in my day, and I wouldn't call that one "hard" at all! :)
That's a great catch! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
Hey, sorry about the late reply. Feel free to use the video.
Very good to see these Rv-6! Thumbs up! ✈✈✈👍👍👍
Who ever filmed this, very nice camera work. Came in a little hard and bounced but nice recovery
I know that it was a hard landing, but the beautiful aircraft, town, and landscape more than made up for it.
My flight instructor used to say: "if you can walk away it was a good landing !".
Actually, very nice recovery!
Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.😎😎😎
every pilot landing at CZNL "Please let this be good, please let this be good...." :) Can't make em all good!!
A narrow runway can throw your flare off too. ( If not used to it). Just did it myself...
did exactly that about a month ago, landing at a new runway, it was narrow and I touched down earlier than expected... with a little more sink rate than I planned...
I wish I could say I'm proud of all my landings.
He didn't do too badly considering he had a bit of lift from the trees near the houses that increased his approach height just before the threshold. He decided to dump it down rather than go-around and the resultant landing wasn't that hard considering. And he showed good judgement after the bounce to not panic as some less experienced pilots do and let the speed bleed off enough for a good controlled flare. Others would have acted too quickly and allowed it to bounce again and porpoise possible resulting in a nose-over. I say well done and I wouldn't describe it as a hard landing either. I've done much harder myself in my own aircraft I have to confess.
nicely recovered... I'm learning it can be challenging landing the RV6, nice transition from wheel landing to 3 point.
At least he got it down! ;) Nice video as always, love seeing some good GA on youtube.
Really good recovery!
Well, a bit firm on landing but nothing any pilot seeing this has not managed to achieve at least once. Nice recovery. Good pilot.
Well recovered!
It's not that bad, and we have a great filming of the RV's approach...thanks to HDA.
Nice recovery, good bit of flying right there.
That's why I wear brown pants :-) Nice work on the rudder after getting the tail wheel down.
Awesome capture! May I feature this in one of my video? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!
That ladies and gentlemen was a classic carrier landing. 9 out of 10. Be proud.
A kind and sympathetic comment section??? Am I in a parallel universe???
Great camera work. The pilot was coming in hot.. For a tailwheel I thought the Vans was pretty forgiving on that landing.
Actually, I didn't think he looked hot, hence the high sink rate and late flare. He should have added a bit more power to arrest the sink and flew it on.
No headwind, a little late on the flare, but a nice recovery. Only thing damaged was an ego! What a beautiful little airplane!
They felt that landing for sure!
Nice example of how strong the gear is.
Surprisingly controlled under the circumstances.
Kind of a BC touch and go without getting back into the pattern. Nice three pointer at the end.
Any landing you can walk away from, Is a good landing.
Good landing, the pilot walked away and no parts fell off.
I consider any landing where the airplane can be reused to be a GREAT landing.
Great video of this nice little aircraft in yellow livery! The approach into Nelson looks always very scenic.
Thanks Matt, I never get tired of seeing the approach into CZNL.
No harm, no foul.
Very cool to see this landing. Great footage of this RV-6! Liked!
Ouch, poor thing. The pilot as well since it's now on CZcams lol. Great catch!
Any RV pilot knows they can pick up a very quick sink rate on late final. It at first unsettled me in my training in a 6. It doesn't happen every landing , but.... Thats one of the reasons for the RV9, very Cessna like in late final, solid, and predictable on final. An AOA sensor does alleviate . At any runway, trees can reduce the airflow available , thereby adding to "that sinking feeling ". RV's are NOT..,. to quote the Company "lawn ornaments ", they are superbly designed, tough all purpose Aeroplanes. The solid round gear main landing legs are well suited to absorb shock at the axle interface , thereby stopping vibration into the firewall/fuselage attach. After 6 years flying my RV4, I wouldn't change anything..!
Excellent save!!
Uh oh, a flare would of been handy. Great catch mate! Liked a lot :)
It happens I like the the fact that he recovered rather than going around.
Excellent recovery!
I could see that coming, Nice video!
That 3rd or 4th landing was good
Wow, he really smashed that one in...
Not really. In a Cessna that's an emergency. In a taildragger it's nothing more than an "damn it I know that guy just filmed that"
Good work! Liked
Great video and footage!
Hey!
May I have your permission to use your clip in a compilation?
Linked and credited.
Thanks!
Kept his feet moving...good job
Absolutely fine. What hard landing? Maybe a bounce but tell me someone that hasn't been there? Good job.
Beautiful high-quality video. What camera?
Thanks. I shot it with the Panasonic VX870.
Clean looking RV, great footage :)
Thanks, this was one beautiful RV.
Spectacular video ! Very nice, subbed !
Hmm, to me that wasn't a hard landing at all.
Touched down a bit early, but that was more of an aerodynamic bounce. May not have been pretty (to the uninitiated observer), But no big deal.
I thought he did a good job not letting a "marginal" touch-down grow into something else.
A flare would have been useful there, haha! Great catch!
“There but for the grace of god !” etc. Amazing scenery on approach ! Came in with too much energy and didn’t flare, maybe the runway is über short ?
Big like awesome catch!
Thanks!
Title should be: Good recovery after bounce.
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, if you can still use the airplane it’s a great landing!
Would have been a good landing if it was onto the deck of a carrier. He really threw it down on the runway threshold like he was trying to catch the wire.
Very interesting catch! Liked a lot :)
Thanks :-D
No problem ,,, a little late in the flare but recovered like a cgamp
Very nice recovery...
Great recovery!
If u had kept a little power it would've been a smooth landing... slightly further down the TDZ... but less than he needed from having to recover from the bounce
Nice recovery. Maybe the pilot was a bit tired which caused the problem
Must be quite hard to fly these smaller props! Nicely done :)
I know of cases, when the landing gear would collapse, being qualified as hard landings. I had instructors doing far worse landings.
OOOH! That was a hard landing. I wanted to take flying lessons a long time ago, but i couldn't afford it. I took a free introductory flight lesson in a Cessna 170 out of Pompano Air Park. It was fun. Too bad i couldn't afford the lessons. Does anyone have a video of a flight in a Cessna 170? I'd sure love to see it.
The 2nd landing was the better one....
flared to late. Should check the firewall for buckling where the undercarriage mounts are. IMHO as an ex airline mechanic and PPL.
OMG lol. Nice catch
Did he leave parts on the runway?
Fuckin' PLONKed that thing down.
that was not so bad....nice recovery.
seems like he came in a bit hot?
"Bumps-a-daisy."
He came hot!
I would've just gone around to try again
Oops forgot there was terrain there... no big deal, just a little tap... lmao.
I wouldn't consider that a hard landing, he just bounced a couple times but a good landing other than that.
Been there done that. Just the other day in fact😁
are we down yet?
Whilst the flare was an after thought the recovery was acceptable👍Now had that been a training wheel version it would have been very ugly in more ways than one!😂
Sheeez if that had have been the 'girly' version it would have been a pile of bent metal on the Rwy!
Ohhhhhh...well...well...well ?!?! 😯😉
Only the first one was hard.
Haha that's true.
Oh well...still that last touch down was good....
Nothing wrong with that landing.
HDAviation-- Your title is somewhat overstated. That was barely into the category of a hard landing.
I thought "Hard Landing" sounded better as a title than "Barely Into the Category of a Hard Landing".
