I promised myself that, in spite of the fact that this song is a little too hard for me, I'd record it and put it up on CZcams. It just seemed like a fun project. Plus I knew that if I made it public I'd work a little harder, make it a little bit better, and basically raise the stakes for myself.
Plus it was fun to mess with the editing and multiple cameras.
The problem is that it's really hard to hear yourself when you're not perfect. I do some things well in this cover but mostly I just hear my mistakes, some sloppy sections, and it just kills me that I missed up what is literally the last measure of the song.
What the heck. Music is supposed to be fun. I'm not drumming for a living, I'm drumming for joy. And I had a lot of joy learning from Carter Beauford and doing my best with this difficult song.

Well done man. That is a tough song. Carter makes it look so easy, smiling and blowing bubble gum but hands down he is my favorite. Nice Job, that took some guts.

Good job! Some of it might be easier with a remote hat set up so you can play open handed. And of course you need about 3 splash cymbals to really nail it! 🙂

Hey Brad. Great job. Interestingly, I have also thought about attempting this for the very same reasons! I'm really struggling with the timing and get too easily frustrated with my lack of progress! Have you ever tried to explain the sticking and timing of the more difficult sections to another drummer? I think I'm going to need some help of this kind to be able to figure this one out!
I'd be happy to talk to you about it, Brian. But I have a confession: I read music well and really tried to understand the weirder parts of this tune that way. But in the end, I leaned it by brute force. I just listened enough to "get it" even though I would have a tough time explaining it.
